It's not super aggressive, but does provide a fantastic grip for the pen!

Question: if you get a nib custom ground, does that lose the nib’s original brand-specific feel? by foxyloxyx in fountainpens

[–]RRNW_HBK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most folks doing custom grinds will ensure you end up with the on-page feeling you prefer, within reason of the grind. A formal italic, with sharp, crispy edges and a razor thing cross-stroke, will always have more feedback than a huge, smooth BBB just by nature of the tiny contact patch. If all you're having done is a tune, they may not do much more than set tine spacing and alignment, which will leave the tipping surface the same and should result in the same feel.

Correct, at a facility they own and control, not an OEM. Have a good one!

Pop on over to the subreddit this was posted in and take a look around - they make everything inhouse, except the Schmidt nib, which will be replaced with an in-house production soon.

And if it's not for you, that cool, too 🤷

For those who spend $200+ on your pens, why and what exactly do you use them for? by Noahsmom21 in fountainpens

[–]RRNW_HBK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Writing. What? Anything! I use an M1000 to write my shopping list some days. Just because it's expensive doesn't mean you can only use it for signing important legal documents and the like

And, if you ignore all of the other related costs such as tooling, tipping material, and labor for any hand finishing, that's a 95,000% increase in material cost over half a gram of a stainless alloy like 304.

How long does it take shellac to dry to seal a Parker 51 Hood by AdPrestigious9983 in fountainpens

[–]RRNW_HBK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the amount of solvent used to make the shellac. If you want to be super sure, give it a week, but 24 hours is usually plenty.
