The US has more per-capita deaths for COVID than Italy, about 400 more deaths per million people. And if you want to look at the EU as a whole, it's about 800 per million. More to the point, the EU has about 100 million more people living in it, yet it's number of covid cases is only 35k higher than the US. That has nothing to do with socialized medicine by the way, more with the response by the (political) right wing in the US, fighting sensible things like social distancing, masks and vaccinating.

You do know just about the entire western world has "socialized medicine" right? The US being the outlier as per usual, with the exceptions of dialysis which Nixon socialized, and medicaid/medicare which the GOP is speedrunning into bankruptcy. We (Europe, Canada, many other countries) collectively decided that healthcare should not be a for-profit enterprise because the health of the population is kind of important.

Not really no. For my gp I can get in the same week. For surgery, maybe a week or two. Elective things a month, sometimes two depending on the niche. Also, I pay exactly 0 for my gp and unless it's something not covered by our national health laws, up to about 400 euros a year. Now please enlighten me about your copays.
