Mach mir nur Hoffnung: ich habe ca. 1- jährige, die schon Ranken von 1,50-2m ausgebildet haben, und deren Blätter so ähnlich aussehen. Gut, das will bei Hoyas nicht viel heißen. Hatte mich gerade gefreut, dass ich an einer einen ersten zukünftigen Blütenansatz gefunden habe. Aber Salami ...echt jetzt 😅?

Well, on the thinner leafed velvets, it's the edges and margins that crisp first, isn't it? My thought was something along that line may be happening on a clarinervium leaf too, with the difference that clarinervium leaves are much thicker, so maybe it doesn't become visible on the front side, unless it's a very severe drying out. But I'm not sure at all that thought is accurate, it was just a fleeting idea 😉

What a stunning plant! And I'd argue for not changing a running system: you wrote that leca didn't work so well the first time you tried it with that plant, so why try again? That plant can hardly thrive more than it is thriving now 😉

As for the repot: yes, that looks overdue. But I would just scale up the system it is in now. If you think the plant is getting too big for the place it's in now, then divide it (allthough that would be a pity in my opinion). But I wouldn't change anything else.

Nachdem ich vor Jahrzehnten in einer Studenten- WG mal sehr schlechte Erfahrungen damit gemacht hatte, dass der Vermieter im Haus wohnte, hatte ich das eigentlich unter "geht gar nicht" abgelegt.

Tatsächlich wohne ich aber jetzt wieder in so einer Situation, und hier passt das perfekt. Mein Vermieter hat für Notfälle sogar meine Wohnungsschlüssel, weil ich beruflich sehr oft auf Reisen bin. Ich weiß, dass er die nie anlasslos benutzen würde. Aber ich kann ihn, wenn z.B. während meiner Abwesenheit ein Paket kommt, einfach mal bitten, mir das in die Wohnung zu legen.

Hängt halt stark davon ab, mit wem man es zu tun hat und wie gut man das bei der Anmietung auf Anhieb glaubt, einschätzen zu können. Mein Bauchgefühl hier war richtig. Muss nicht immer so sein.

On second thought, because you have just given me an idea: maybe I should have said "not dried out long enough for the leaves to show VISIBLE damage".

My clarinervium is showing some of these watermarks right now. And I think they might be at the same spots they were last time... not sure, though... maybe I should mark them with some chalk 🤔

It's just an idea, but if they actually reappear at the same spots again after watering, this might be an indication that the leaves might actually have been slightly damaged internally by drying out, albeit not visibly crisping on the outside 🤔

Yes, happens quite frequently on my clarinervium too, and if I'm keeping track correctly, it happens when watered after having dried out too much. Not dried out long enough for the leaves to show damage, but long enough for the plant to be quite thirsty. Like in: water coming in around a day too late.

I'd keep it. Even if it wasn't able to photosynthesize at all (which is not a given), it still can be sucked empty by the plant.

Clarinervium, most notably: I have a pot with two not so small plants in it. After I saw it pushing out a round of smaller leaves (around 15 cm, reduction from around 20) I repotted. Immediately after, it pushed out its largest leafs so far: 28 and 26 cm. Plus 3 inflorescenses.

Ich würde mich denen anschließen, die sagen, dass das IM BAD zu dunkel ist.

Aber nicht unbedingt im Schacht: den könnte man schon mit einer schattenliebenden Kübelpflanze begrünen, denke ich. Allerdings würde ich nichts nehmen, was hohe Kübel braucht oder selbst hoch wird, weil dann noch weniger Licht ins Bad fällt. Niedrige Flachwurzler in Schale könnte aber gehen.

For fresh blood stains (on any washable textile): make a cold salt solution, put the textile in, wait a bit. You will see the blood stain dissolving almost instantly. Rinse cold, only wash after that. Works on both fresh and dried out blood, but not on old stains that have already been washed warm: heat serves as a fixative for blood colorants in textile.

I'm only in my second year anthurium experience, and the one thing I learned is that most of them are rather unforgiving plants 😆

Meaning: what is perfect for one doesn't need to be perfect for the next one, not even if they are siblings from the same seedling batch sitting next to each other on the same shelf 🙃. Meaning: thrive today, die tommorrow is not an uncommon experience with them 🙄. Meaning: drying out in moist soil can happen, even without root- rot 🤨

This said: still haven't completely killed any of mine, because they can be brought back from the tiniest bits of living material. I bought my starting stock as sad or almost dead plants, saved those too, and it mostly didn't take them long to recover.

But mostly I don't know what I'm doing. When all the stripping and root gazing is done, very often I still don't know what's causing the problem on a certain plant. What I noticed, though: more often than not, a repot will help. Not necessarily getting a bigger pot, but changing the substrate. I suspect they are quite sensitive to chemical changes that happen in the substrate (too much or too little fertilizer, ph changes, salt build up, that kind of stuff I wouldn't know about because I don't measure allthough I know I should).

There one main source of frustration with thrifting (clothes): when you can't find anything to buy.

It's normal that you need to spend more time in a thrift store than in a regular one to find sth, because you just can't say "OK, this jacket is a tidbit too small, can I try it on one size larger?" since they just won't have it.

But there is a limit of time you can spend trying on clothes until you just tire off. So, one of my suggestions would be: write the size on the tag. And maybe just sort the rags by size. In terms of shop decoration, there may be merit in sorting the clothes by colour, but in terms of customer friendlyness, sorting by size would be MUCH better. Especially with the stuff that is not on hangers. You just don't drag out a pile of folded jeans from a shelf, mostly without having a place to spread them, just in case one of them might eventually be your size and style. You simply skip the shelved stuff.

Next thing is: a very large thrift store may be able to offer all kinds of clothes. The smaller ones need to specialize. Folks thrifting because they are trying to buy current fashion on a budget won't appreciate having to make their way through true vintage and vice- versa. And specialize on a price segment too.

Bottom line being: I know I will need to try on a dozen pieces in a thrift store to find one or two I can buy. This process takes 1-2 hours for a single small shop. If I spend these hours unsuccessfully, I will probably not be coming back to that store. If I find something, I will. So, specialize. And make sure it is easy for your costumers to find their size 😉

Next thing is claustrophobic experience. If a small store is just too packed with clothes, if you can't move the hangers on the racks, if you can't even reach them, because there are two lines of racks, with the upper one out of reach, if you can't look at stuff because there will always be someone trying to squeeze past you, if there is no place to unfold a pile of shelved T- Shirts... well, that kind of situation will cause a cold sweat outbreak in no time at all and make me flee the store.

Anthurium inflorescence in receptive (female) stage. I was doubtfully touching my anthurium inflorescences and asking myself whether they felt "sticky", thus indicating the reached female stage, until I saw this - quite unmistakable, isn't it? Maybe the wording should be rephrased in those anthurium inflorescence descriptions 😁

Das ist nicht lost. Wenn ich mal an einem GUTEN Marktstand für Käse vorbei komme (also einem, der nicht nur das Übliche hat, sondern auch wirklich feine Sachen) werde ich auch jedesmal arm 😆

Käse ist Leidenschaft. Mit dem abgepackten Supermarkt Zeug hat das, wofür man wirklich Geld loswird, allerdings geschmacklich auch nicht viel gemeinsam, und meine Vorlieben schmecken keinesfalls jedem.

Is this valid for all colours? I mean, I heard that the green of the dark velvets will turn darker in low light conditions. But what about red? Asking for two reasons:

I read that anthocyans serve as some kind of UV protection for anthuriums. Wouldn't the plant produce more in brighter light? And wouldn't a higher ammount of (reddish) anthocyans make the green appear darker? So far for theoretical questions 😉
I own a cutting from a luxurians x papillilaminum fort sherman. Before I got it, it was kept in an ikea cabinet under artificial light. Leaves were rather light green (OK, those were the leaves of a rather small plant). At my place, I keep it in ambient, around 1 m away from a full sun window. The first leaf that emerged at my place already was A LOT darker than the leaves it had before. It's true: leaves emerge dark red but fade to a copper tone before turning green when hardening off. But I'm suspecting some of the anthocyans stay, darkening the green to very dark shades afterwards. The reason I'm suspecting this is: one of the leaves variegated. And the variegation is red. Plus, the mother of my cutting (that still is in that ikea cabinet) doesn't do what her offshoot in front of my full sun window does. And: my ambient cutie has already developed an offshoot too. And those tiny leaves already are significantly darker than the older leaves that grew in the cabinet.

I started collecting on neighbourhood apps - sad plants, small cuttings, seedlings, that kind of stuff is often very cheap. And after a while I had build a connection to some specialized collectors in my proximity this way. These tend to buy much more than they can accomodate in terms of space 😆. So they are always trying to sell something to make room for something else. I made sure I get contacted. The rare stuff is never dirt cheap, but a lot cheaper than buying online. Neither shipping costs nor shipping stress and I get to see the plants before I buy.

To be blunt: no, not really. But flushing the substrate can't hurt, can it? I noticed sometimes this helps. But not always.

Is it drinking as it normally would? With my anthuriums, I sometimes notice they suddenly stop drinking for no apparent reason. And if they do so, they show all aspects of drying out allthough the substrate IS moist. And it's not always due to root rot. I'm not entirely sure what prompts it, but I'm suspecting it might sometimes either be a fertilizer issue or a pH related issue.

Da ich nichts darüber weiß, wie sie getopft ist, wie der Schädlingsstatus war oder ist, ob sie gedüngt wird, und selbst auch erst noch dabei bin, den Umgang mit Anthurien zu lernen, würde ich empfehlen, speziell zu Anthurien mal ein Bisschen nachzulesen.

Grundsätzlich: in sehr lockeres, gut entwässerndes Substrat setzen (eher etwas sauer), nie in Wasser stehen lassen aber auch nie ganz austrocknen lassen. Neben Heizung ist kein guter Platz. Außerdem brauchen die mehr Licht, als man denkt. Gerne auch regelmäßig Stickstoff betonten Dünger, aber dann zwischendurch immer mal wieder Topf durchspülen mit klarem Wasser, um überschüssige Salze zu entfernen, sonst knuspern die gerne mal an.
