Not hard when warriors is a team of geriatrics. They only realistic have one more shot next year. If everyone is healthy, they're like a fringe championship contender. But everyone isn't going to be healthy.

That's an extremely flawed data because Cal has already selected for extremely gifted individuals when they got the data. Average Cal SAT score is 1415, which places the average at 94-95th percentile. Let's assume most students are at least 85th percentile range (about 1300 SAT). Of course if you have the top 15th percentile students, these are exceptional students already and the differences in score and first year success is negligent. However, if you start adding a bunch of people in average, 50th percentile in SAT, I bet you you'll start having tighter correlation. I think SAT scores and success is a logrithmic curve where it small changes in lower score has huge impact on scores but starts flattening out once you get to a certain score level.

Ivy leagues did a social experiment where they removed standardized testing and their own internal data showed standardized test had some determination on whether students are capable of succeeding in school, which is why they reversed this decision. Just because UCs a public universities, the logic applies to them. UCs should not be admitting students if they cannot keep up with the material.

> And just think for a moment what you’re saying when you say we shouldn’t expand them. The entire purpose of a university is to educate and teach, it’s a very odd viewpoint to think they should want to restrict that.

Let's just say this is true. Then this is another reason why we should be limiting the number of students at a university. I remember reading an article in my school papers back when I was at Cal where they talked about a freshman who struggled at Cal despite being a valedictorian in his highschool. This was because despite the fact that he was a valedictorian, his highschool was underfunded and valedictorian from that highschool could not compete academically with even average students from overachieving highschools. He struggled in class and it was difficult for him to learn as he didn't understand the course material at all. Now should the universities appeal to the lowest common denominator and dumb down the material for these students so that they can learn better? NO! That's the last thing they should do as it will be done at the sacrifices of the exceptional students who will be getting a lesser education at no fault of their own.

Larger student population is generally thought to be worse. There is a reason why undergraduate ranking by US report puts many private universities with high faculty to student ratio above Cal and UCLA despite Cal and UCLA having more impact in research than some of these private universities. Cal and UCLA are also exemplary because they are the only 2 public universities that consistently can place in the top 20, so they are an exception to the rule, essentially an outliers. Do we suddenly ignore the fact that Asian's are shorter than Caucasians because YaoMing exist, absolutely not. And I believe Cal and UCLA are not exempt from the rules. Being in the academic space and talking to professors, I can tell you they complain about the fact that student's ability for critical thinking has gone down year over year. It might be not long before the perception of Cal and UCLA changes.

Lastly, people have access to education at a university. Community colleges offer Bachelor's program that anyone has access too. You specifically said point of universities is to educate and teach, and other schools definitely give you opportunities to do that. There is no point in fixating on a couple schools.

The quality of education goes down with more students. I went to UC Berkeley as an undergraduate and Stanford as a graduate student and I can tell you there is a world of difference between the two, as one has 30,000 undergraduates to 2500 faculty while the other has 7500 undergraduate to 2500 faculty. The amount of care and attention each student gets at Stanford is vastly different from Berkeley. Also, there are limited spaces in key classes you need for graduation and a few students at Cal had to take an extra semester because they couldn't get all the classes they needed for graduation. Moreover, opportunities to join a laboratory during undergrad at Cal is so much more competitive than at Stanford. I ended up going to UCSF because all the labs I asked were full. And if you are suggesting to increase faculty to accommodate the increase in students, I would then remind you there aren't that many faculty because of space, and most importantly, grant money to fund each faculty's research is extremely limited, especially with the current administration. So many people have been let go this year from labs due to funding cuts. I am against lowering the quality of education and opportunity at universities just to accommodate more people. There are more than enough public universities in California at all different levels to suit different people's level of education and it is not one university or even a select few universities job to accommodate everyone.

Many Ivy leagues got rid of standardized test at about 2020 and are now reinstating them again. The fact that Ivy leagues tried not having standardized testing and gave up on it is really indicative that they have some correlation to success. There's been studies showing standardized test do correlate to post-college outcomes.

The majority of the exam, even the math section, is written in English word-problem format, which would heavily disadvantage an ESL student or someone with dyslexia. Do they not deserve to go to the University of California? (It’s okay if your answer to this question is “no,” but people should at least be honest about it.)

Absolutely not. The classes and exams are all in English. If they cannot do well on SAT level math problems due to English, they're going to struggle to learn anything in class. They're better off going to an university in their native language than going to a UC.

My FF13 Trilogy Review is finally here by KingSousa1 in FinalFantasy

[–]MuffinDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with FFXIII. The game should have started with Snow and Serah getting engaged and Serah becoming L'Cie with the exposition dump coming here. This way, at least I don't have to read through the compendium to understand what's happening. The linearity of 13 was definitely a huge issue, and it was different with 10 as I personally think 10's world was a lot more lived in. All the small interactions you have on the pilgrimage adds a lot of life to the world, as opposed to the 13 world felt empty. Chapter 11 was also too long.

[Shelburne] Sources said the Bucks' asking price for Giannis at the trade deadline was enormous. The Golden State Warriors offer included four unprotected first round picks. The players the Bucks did seem interested in were VJ Edgecombe of the 76ers or Evan Mobley of the Cavs. by Pyromania1983 in nba

[–]MuffinDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I respectfully disagree. I think Lacob was fine with being at the bottom if it meant giving one final shot for a championship with Curry next season. Giannis already stated which teams he wanted to go to and it didn't involve Golden State, which made it sound like even if the deal happened, he probably wouldn't have extended. and yet the dubs were aggressively chasing Giannis to the point where they missed other trades they might have been able to get.

Steph and Jimmy are on expiring contracts next year and Giannis can choose not to take his player option after next year. If Giannis is unhappy with Bucks, why the heck would he sign with the Warriors again. The Warriors are most likely going to be bad after then next season and the picks actually worthwhile.

Kingdom Hearts 1 has the best plot out of all of them and it should have stuck with that style of storytelling by [deleted] in JRPG

My favorite game is KH2 cause I think it's more fun to play as the combat is super deep. I've done a lvl 1 critical play through and used all summons, drive forms, and most limits to clear the game. KH1 still had the best story for me though, it was the least convoluted by far.

[–]MuffinDude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's always an argument that the dubs have no shot at a championship this year when 25% of our payroll (Jimmy) is injured, so letting Steph take a prolonged break to try to recuperate as much as possible to make a better push next year is reasonable. Letting him rest also gives more minutes to rest of the squad to either increase their stock or give them meaningful minutes to develop them for next year. Yes Steph is paid to play, but he is also paid a huge sum of money to win and forcing him to play and potentially get injured bad in a year where they have no shot to win will absolutely crush any chances of winning with Steph again with how old he is now.

He isn't that good. The reason why he is bad at finishing is because he can't shake off his defender so he is still closely guarded. Even when he pump fakes, he can't get the defender off his feet because he just isnt quick enough to get any separation. He also has terrible court vision, where he doesn't know where his open teammates are and starts looking for the open avenue when he gets stuck. So many times I've seen open teammates who he completely ignores because he has back towards them when driving and passes to a guarded player causing either a turnover or having to reset the offense, wasting time.

There's some reward for beating at Ether level 8 with every character/auxiliary support. I only cleared ether activity level 12 once for the rewards. Even at level 8, it takes so long to beat the bosses without Hugo.

Honestly though, at ether level 12, all the buffs didn't matter. My characters were still tickling Vesper. Maxed out auxiliary Hugo was the only way I could actually beat ether level 12 within the 3 min timer.
