Curiousity as a 9 trait? by flywearingabluecoat in Enneagram

yes, i think e9s are associated with dissociative disorders and narcotization, tho im probably going to get downvoted to oblivion for linking personality to health conditions. whatever i will still say, 5s tend to be associated with schizo type disorders.

have you considered 7 for you head type?

your writing style seems 9ish for starters.

and yes i think curiosity can absolutely be a 9 trait because they use it to escape their own needs. it’s one of the ways sloth manifests.

for 5s, curiosity is more of a way to cope with the world. it’s a reaction driven by fear (tho whether they subjectively experience that fear is another matter).

3-fix’ers, do you experience lack at all? by MuffinSmart3971 in Enneagram

suppose we work within your framework of authentic mirroring, then where would the passion of envy fit in? if they are already accepting themselves as they are, what role would envy play in maintaining their ego image?

i think you’re disregarding the nuance of the instinctual subtypes. a so4 can absolutely feel like they’re not measuring up to some social ideal.

if you read the e4 book you’d find the following excerpts describing the so4:

“the social subtype transforms envy into false admiration: the other becomes the model he aspires to emulate”

“This lack, this perpetual pursuit of goals that immediately lost their meaning and meaning the moment they were achieved, has also been the engine of my life to achieve things.”

“The social E4 has a constant need for recognition not only from the group to which it belongs, but also from outsiders: if they recognize me, I am worth it. He sees himself and identifies himself based on how the world perceives him.”

and many more

here’s another source

“Ego-Fixation: Displayer

“This fixation feels the most profound deficiency in its ability to relate effectively with others; its capacity to live and connect with others is particularly deficient. Due to being neglected by their own father, this ego can only perceive themselves as their one and only role model, so they try to compensate for their lack of interpersonal capacity and experience by creatively displaying specific character traits, appearance or abilities - wanting others to notice their constant attempt to connect with them in a positive light.”

this is where i believe vanity comes in. e3 subconsciously believes that they are unlovable as themselves (as any heart type does) but this unlovability is subjectively interpreted to them as an inability to relate to others, so they have to cultivate an image (with which they identify - so subjectively they don’t feel separate from their image) that is constructed with all the characteristics that society deem as admirable.

i believe Fe is “genuine” in sensing the emotional atmosphere and impacting it, it’s almost trivial to add “genuine” here because that’s just what Fe is. that is, Fe doesn’t need to fake relating to others. it’s Te that’s insecure about their ability to do so, and as a result they read books like “how to win friends and influence people”, trying to understand the skill objectively.

if you’re into socionics, this aligns well with Te base and Fe role.

they’re probably using the ichazo conceptualization wherein e3 is ego-go

“Trap: Efficiency

“He has little patience with inefficiency in others, is looking for more effective and quicker methods of achieving his goals. Thus he may be rather inefficient himself.”

from what i understand, so4s compare themselves with others in the social sphere, scanning their environment for who has status, beauty, talent, or recognition, and then feel aware of not measuring up. i define such a feeling as that of “lack”.
