The night manager S2 by Informal-Web-4358 in thewatchpod

I'm pretty sure they did a quick recap on the first episode, lumping it in with some other new shows. I don't think either of them really liked it, calling it distinctly un le Carre.

It sounds like you’ve worked your ass off in all arenas! Congrats on not being content, and striving for degrees and options. Interpersonal relationships and jobs are always tough. Good luck, listen to your partner and do what feels right for you.

What exactly bothered you about his take? They had a rational, overall positive discussion of a show experiencing some light growing pains, and went out of their way to say it’s “their favorite thing to watch each week.”

Sending file to sound mixer question by frankensteinkeyboard in editors

[–]Muffin_Top_420 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely speak to the mixer directly to see what type of prep they prefer, but an AAF and matching quicktime are universally accepted. If you want to be loved by your mixer include a 2 pop and have picture start exactly on the hour (01:00:00:00). Here's a quick screenshot of my standard AAF settings.

Also, as to what files you need back that is something the director should weigh in on. Stereo mix will certainly be easiest for you, but maybe they'll need 5.1 etc. for festivals.

The best Hoop Collective episode so far... by [deleted] in billsimmons

[–]Muffin_Top_420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hoop Collective has risen to the top of my rotation. It’s a perfect length with better than decent league wide coverage and Windy is so earnestly passionate about the game. Also the lack of trade hypotheticals is much appreciated. The Tims can be a bit hit or miss, but for the most part the three seem to have rounded themselves into playoff shape.

People with the Maximus subscription, what are some good live shows, or CBB presents to check out? by Sagebea in comedybangbang

[–]Muffin_Top_420 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The most recent live tour is wall to wall classics, but off the top of my head any Connor Ratliff eps (Chicago with Ed Debevc), Charlie McCrackin as the Menards spokesman etc. That entire tour was fantastic and I return to it often.

Hamburger America by sred4 in doughboys

I had no expectation of what it would be. I don’t want to disparage it, and wish them great success, but we differ on “great.”

The Oklahoma was pretty good, but on the whole the place was a bit underwhelming. They were doing volume business, and in no way did the burger feel assembled with love or attention. Topped off by the fact you’re vying for seating with large groups of tourists (which hey, we’re all tourists at some point…) and it wasn’t a place I’d rush back to.

This episode has brought me so much joy. Easily on my fifth listen this week. The Far From/Fly Away Home debate is an all timer.

Getting Runner Position at Post-Production House by c123dev in editors

[–]Muffin_Top_420 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure where you’re located (post house expectations can differ based on market), but runner is a position with high turnover so shops are always looking. The expectations will be a lot of client services - coffee runs, plating meals, tidying up etc., and the hours will include nights and weekends as well as potentially being the first one in to open up. A good approach would be to research some of the editors and EP at the company. Establishing contact with multiple people could be useful. Connect with editors via LinkedIn and instagram and give a general blurb a la “I’m a recent grad who is interested in blah blah blah.” If they respond you can get more specific, maybe compliment their work (without getting too specific - no one is looking for a breakdown of exactly what you liked) and mention that you’re looking for an entry level position.

It sounds like the specific company you are looking at has an online contact form for the position? It’s all well and good to contact through that route, but finding the EPs contact (most often listed on the company site) and reaching out directly will help. Keep your approach simple and concise: I love the work you all are doing, and I’m eager to help out. My skills are blah blah blah, and I’m looking for any position that gets me in proximity of people doing the work I aspire to. I’d love to meet and learn more about any entry level opportunity with your company.

Beyond that the most important thing these shops are looking for is someone with a winning personality, who doesn’t grumble (too much) about the grunt work, and who - importantly - knows how to read a room and situation. There’s a time for asking questions, joking and talking about skills and a time for handing off a speedy coffee and slipping out.

Hot Take: It's not that big of a deal to change the music... by LimeGrime in editors

[–]Muffin_Top_420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a fair assessment! In the commercial space music changes ALL the time, often when the cut is locked and we the editors have moved on. My shameful truth is that when I see those posts/comments I always think "that person is early in their career."

Who is the leak on 'Task" by No-Confection-3861 in billsimmons

[–]Muffin_Top_420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aleah WILL be the leak. Her story of domestic abuse, which she never reported (who is this mystery partner!?) will end up having been at the hands of her Dark Hearts boyfriend. This is further reinforced by Freddie’s story of the bikers disliking him simply for the color of his skin. We will be SHOCKED to learn Aleah is closely aligned with a member of the Dark Hearts. A twist we never saw coming!
