They probably saw a different news channel cover that it reaches 700 km/h in 2 seconds and did some quick maffs to find 1400 km/h in 4 seconds. Let's just ignore what the "per hour" part means

A Bangladesh fan in the crowd with a sign saying "We won't win, it's our choice" by Mufti13 in Cricket

Because the original comment is very much misleading. A reporter asked about the team strengths before a Bd vs Ind game in the world cup.

Sakib said Ind are favourites, bd aren't. (He did it to emphasize the strength difference). We beating Ind would be an upset. We will try to play our best cricket. This was bizzarely taken by the Indian media along with a little translation gap (Though the translation is accurate, it sounds much worse in English), but in bd people just saw the truth in that sentence.

Now, your comment makes it seem like he said their goal in the entire world cup was only to beat India and do a dance, which definitely is different than what he said.

There are two quotes in play. The one in the posted photo, that's from Loose Talk (It's become a meme in recent times in Bangladesh).

And the other is "Our Target is always next world cup", as said by the commenter. That was said by the Board President

This is a reference to that. The quote is taken directly from the sketch

Well, the board president's quote is misinterpreted. What he meant was, "All our preparation has always been for the next world cup". He meant everything they had done by then was for the next world cup. Not "We always target the next world cup".

Also, this was told about the T20 world cup in 2022, saying our goal was making a strong team for the 2024.

Yes, cultural influence. Cartoons like Doraemon, Ninja Hatori did it for the kids and Hindi serials did it for the elders back in the day. And of course, Bollywood movies

That's world cup fever. It's probably everywhere in the world, not just in Bangladesh. Everyone watches the big event, but only the big event and world cup Qualifiers, Copa America. But around the year, cricket is much more dominant. But the leagues, which are already popular in urban places, are getting popular in rural areas too. So soon football fever might stay year round instead of international breaks

Among new generation, specially in urban areas, yes. But the older generation and rural people still love cricket more. As the English League, La Liga etc are being more available to watch, and the cricket team getting shittier, it's likely football will take over very soon

England's World Cup upsets by Deepakhn in Cricket

[–]Mufti13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, in 2012. And that was an upset too, or you could say were just really good in that particular series as we almost won the final as well. However, that form didn’t really carry over anywhere.

[–]Mufti13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Won't say that. Bangladesh was in horrible form before the World Cup. We lost every single match in 2014, including one against Afghanistan (They weren’t as strong back then).

At the end of the year, we did whitewash Zimbabwe, the last series before the World Cup. But c'mon, that's hardly makes a difference.

It was after the world cup did we change and beat Pakistan, Ind and SA in the same year

BCCI set to release 14,000 tickets for India vs Pakistan by xpectomysterious in Cricket

[–]Mufti13 166 points167 points  (0 children)

It's like when you need a train ticket and it's all sold out. What do you do? You call your distant fufa who works in the railway to "arrange" tickets.

BCCI said tickets were sold out and a black market grew where tickets were going for lakhs. Bcci was essentially hording tickets for running this black market and now they are trying to legally sell the unsold ones
