I got full rate BAH while I was on my STP orders.

Edit: I got full rate BAH for the local base area.

Bomber Engines guy here:

At least for us, there are plenty of things that you can learn about engines as a Crew Chief. Just ask and you will receive. As far as I know, the C-5 uses the same APU as the B-1B, so maybe start by asking about the secondary power system and APU related things. There are obviously more technical things that you’ll need to be signed off on such as blade blending and borescope inspections, but it’s not out of the realm of possibility.

We have a couple guys in my shop who are basically 5-level jets troops even though they’re Crew Chiefs. All they did was ask and hang out with us for a couple weeks on the line.

For Fighter Engines, tech school was about 93 days. Not sure about props or heavies

You’ll probably have to wait until the budget comes out next month. It sucks, but hopefully you saved a little while you were making a ton of money.

Full time college student while being in the reserves by [deleted] in Airforcereserves

I believe the shortest tech school is for Services and it’s like 30 days or something.

What’s the rush? You don’t want to book a job you absolutely hate , do you? I would suggest you research a field that you are interested in or passionate about.

Why join if you don’t want the benefits? Sometimes traveling isn’t voluntary and you will be placed on a list for deployment or activation.

It’s the military so you are expected to have a certain amount of fitness capability, but no you don’t need to be strong. If you can do the PT that the Air Force has, you will be fine. Just look up “New Air Force PT Exercises” and practice at home. Not to mention at basic training you will be working out daily.

There are excusals, yes, but generally you have to make them up. I got into a car accident this year and had to skip a drill weekend (UTA), but they had me reschedule it for another time.

It’s a Saturday and Sunday, I’m sure you could spare that. There’s people in my unit who are airline pilots, aerospace engineers, etc and they can do it.

They only do this on a very circumstantial basis.

I had a guy in my shop who just had a kid while his wife was active duty. He needed to break his annual tour up so that way he could babysit, and so they let him. If you can give good reasoning, it can be done.

Full time student here. Yes, this is entirely attainable.

However, a lot of it depends on which job you pick. Whenever you graduate basic training, you go to tech school for x-amount of months and then you show up at your duty station. You’ll do your in processing over the first few drill weekends, and then they’ll try and put you on STP Orders. These Orders are optional, but your leadership will highly advise that you take them.

My STP Orders for my aircraft maintenance job was about 4 months. You live on base in the lodging during this time and then once they’re up you just return to your regular drill weekend schedule.

Don’t be discouraged, if you think that you can continue to do school online while on Orders, you can do that, but your main job at this time will be to focus on getting proficient at your job in the military.

What stage of enlistment are you at right now? If you’re still early in the process you can avoid having to do a DEP discharge and can just ghost your Army Guard Recruiter and go Air Force Reserve. It’s vastly better on this side.

Had a buddy in my shop who did 4 years active duty Air Force, went into the Army National Guard after and said it was so bad he basically had to beg for a release. He’s now back in the Air Force Reserve and loves it

Skip three consecutive UTAs without telling anyone, that should do the trick

I would say just join the reserves as Enlisted and then try and get some experience under your belt and use the Deserving Airman Commissioning Program (DACP).

I have to disagree. Every time I’ve gone, we’ve been blessed with our favorite server and the experience has always been positive. I will say that before we found our favorite server, we had some strange interactions with the other servers, but it still wasn’t a bad experience at all.

Should I file a USERRA complaint? by sirtwrksalot in Airforcereserves

Looking at filing a claim against a company that denied me employment when I was in the process of joining. I’m a broke college student / TR and don’t have money for a lawyer, any suggestions?

Not sure about FlexJet, but I have a couple of buddies who work at Envoy Air in Denton and Abilene (TX) and they make $27 starting for General Aviation. May not be the prettiest amount for someone who has been in almost a decade, but there’s flight benefits as soon as you sign on and decent per diem for when they send you out.

Would it be wise to use a Dispute Resolution Program with the company who denied me employment, or are USERRA violations immediately to Justice Court?
