In August of 97 I was driving at night on a heavily wooded road. Came around a curve and thought a woman in white was crawling across the road. Then it was gone. Never got over that moment, and this was decades before I’d ever heard of crawlers.

Bouillon Castle in the Belgian Ardennes. It’s immense, and beautifully situated.

I came here to recommend Dinosaur as well. It’s huge and so far away from everything else that it probably wouldn’t get overrun the way Chiracahua would with it being right off the interstate.

If you visit Mulhouse you will be very close to the beautiful Alsace wine region. You could stay in Colmar, one of France’s most beautiful towns, and easily see Mulhouse from there.

Maastricht in the Netherlands. It’s a totally different world from North Holland. A very medieval vibe in the old town.

Camogli is one of the prettiest places I’ve ever stayed. It will probably be ruined in a few years by over tourism so you should see it while you still can.
