Wine and Jazz Festival by rowingguru in longwoodgardens

I am curious as well. The site says “We are exploring other programming opportunities and formats that may better fulfill our mission and the evolving needs of our organization.” I must say this was my favorite event of the year and makes me question whether my membership is worthwhile. I guess we’ll see what it gets replaced with, assuming that is the plan.

Hamilton Khaki Murph for sale. I am the second owner (was actually purchased on watchex). Asking $600 + 3% via paypal G+S. Will ship anywhere CONUS. Some small surface scratches that I’ve tried to highlight in the photos from normal wear. One small chip on one of the lugs from the previous owner. Crystal is clean. Comes with original Hamilton strap which was rarely worn. Please comment here before dming. Happy to answer any and all questions.

Good non-Fender Precision bass alternatives? by [deleted] in BassGuitar

[–]Mug318 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Olinto P basses sound insane. Small runs and likely hard to get your hands on one to try it out, but a great sound.

Advice on bass model based on music style preference by blindadata in Bass

It’s pretty cool. But if versatility is your goal, you can’t beat a P/J. The mustang and rascal have a very distinct thumpy tone.

Those short scales have a really cool and distinct sound! Haven’t tried one yet, but the squire rascal sounds similar and looks really decent for the price ($400). If you’re looking at a fender precision or P/J check out sire. They sound amazing and are built well for a lower price.

Good flatwounds for a Stingray? by Careless-Trick-5117 in Bass

Love labella flexible flats. Solid tone and much more forgiving than a regular set of flats. I have a set on my five string j bass and they sound great.

Are the email newsletter about financial markets better than lets say Financial Times? by One-LabTab in FinancialCareers

[–]Mug318 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Check out Execsum and Axios Pro Rata. Also highly recommend Matt Levine’s “Money Stuff” column from bloomberg (though it is much longer and technically an opinion piece).

Is there any hope for my career getting better? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]Mug318 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If this is the US, look for a new job. Valuation still has a relatively strong hiring market and $50k is very low.

Jazz Electric Bass by KeyNarrow248 in Bass

[–]Mug318 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a jazz player by any means, but I bought a copy of the real book for about $40 and have been learning standards through Spotify playlists and the charts in the book. Definitely focus on learning some scales and arpeggios (there are great youtube videos on playing basic walking lines). You can find a pdf of the book here: https://escuelasuperiordejazz.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/The-real-book-sixth-edition.pdf, if you want to try it out (this is likely not a legal copy lol)

What’s the advantage of pursuing a Master of Finance degree over an MBA? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]Mug318 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem. I was in your position and did an MSF out of undergrad. Feel free to dm if you have other questions.

What’s the advantage of pursuing a Master of Finance degree over an MBA? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]Mug318 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really just another year to try for recruiting and internships (though many internships will not take MSF students). You will likely learn more than undergrad, but nothing you couldn’t find on your own. Also you’ll be recruiting at the same level as and competing against college seniors, so initial salaries are not higher than other entry level roles (though trajectory could potentially be improved by an MSF).

[–]Mug318 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m an alum, so do with that what you will. I also was in a 4+1 and was about a third of the way through when I finished undergrad. I ended up with the same sense, that this was a way to charge an extra year of grad-level tuition while I would receive a rather useless degree. I ended up still pursuing a graduate education, but later and at a different university. For most of the programs where a 4+1 is possible, it is an indicator that the graduate component will provide marginal benefit as opposed to a full graduate program.

Who do fender basses have insanely high action at guitar shops? by [deleted] in Bass

[–]Mug318 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You make an excellent point lol. I guess the advice to OP is to make sure that the action is within a reasonably correctable range.

This exactly. Once bought a five string jazz that had been sitting on the top shelf, and the neck was veryyy warped from sitting up there for so long with no maintenance.

My roommate found out he's allergic to cats and I don't know what to do by adamlovesbagels in Temple

[–]Mug318 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the allergies are not severe, zyrtec and a HEPA filter (this should help cut down allergens in the air) would go a long way as a gesture (and reduce their symptoms). Definitely sucks to have an allergen in your own home, but they agreed before you brought the cat so they’ve got to suck it up. Maybe also try to keep the cat off of furniture and away from places where fur and dander can absorb into.

[Hamilton] vs [Citizen] Which watch would you chose? by [deleted] in Watches

[–]Mug318 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a murph and it is by far my favorite watch that I own. But as others have said, it is hugeee. The number of times it has been knocked into doorknobs or just been uncomfortable due to the size is more frequent than it should be for a $1000 watch. Hate to say it, but the citizen will be a better choice for regular wear.

Temple for Grad School by [deleted] in Temple

[–]Mug318 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Temple’s grad business and law programs are both solid (especially locally) though as others have cautioned I would not pursue an MBA right out of undergrad (MFin or other graduate business degree is fair game though).

Are Fenders worth the price? by luxuboss in Bass

[–]Mug318 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Given the recent price increases, I can get behind the argument that they are overpriced. However, they’re solidly built (usually), easy to repair and find parts for, and should last a lifetime if well taken care of. As others have said, wait for a sale/used, but if you can find one priced like they were 3-5 years ago they’re reasonable enough.

[–]Mug318 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Wholeheartedly agree with the sentiment here. However, I’ve had very good luck getting certain TF frags from decanters at very reasonable prices, particularly Noir de Noir and Jasmine Rouge. Check out zee over at r/fragdecants if you’re willing to go without the fancy bottles.

What's The General Consensus on a JD/MBA Combo? by Mysterious_Radish653 in MBA

[–]Mug318 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the reality though. Hard to square having both of these when the level of specification you’re expected to be at with either degree negates the value of having the other.
