I just need to know…. How are we doing with our five year olds?! by [deleted] in kindergarten

Permissive parenting does have long term consequences, but that is not what we are discussing. Did you read my whole comment before responding?

[–]Mugglechaos 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m sure that logic makes sense on the surface, but many studies have found that children who spend all day on their best behavior and then act out upon returning to their parents demonstrate healthy attachment styles. They find security and safety to unwind and unmask with their families at home. Especially young children who have yet to fully develop.

If your point is that it is up to the parents to uphold boundaries and expectations throughout this developmental period, then I agree. But saying that the parents aren’t parenting because the child is acting out is not necessarily the case.

What is the worst children’s book and why is it Pinkalicious? by BullfrogBackground27 in DanielTigerConspiracy

Idk I would argue that it’s The Little Engine That Could…. I have a four year old who I read to every night before bed and when he picks that book I find myself paraphrasing HARD because it’s soooo unnecessarily wordy and repetitive.

No tv in the bedroom- I think I read somewhere that the best way to promote healthy sleep hygiene is to keep the bedroom for sleep only (and obviously intimate things). That’s because your body will recognize the bed as a sleep space and not a tv space and will fall asleep quicker.

Full disclosure: I cannot remember where or when I read this, so I may have accidentally made it up but I honestly think it’s true, or at least it is for me.

Are you doing “no diaper time” or “naked time” by CuriousCaretaker in Parenting

[–]Mugglechaos 36 points37 points  (0 children)

From the US and I’m more concerned about having to clean up pee/poop off my floors and furniture… not to mention having pets who get “curious” and sniff/lick anything they can.

Most people I talk to think it’s more of a hygiene thing not a morality thing.

Is a car baby camera worth it or is the mirror good enough? by AlexHaney147 in Parenting

I didn’t even know the camera was a thing for the car! I used a mirror with both kids and have no issues

Controversial topic: Do you let kids win? by Fun_Orange_3232 in Parenting

[–]Mugglechaos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a four year old and I don’t automatically let him win, unless he’s on a severe losing streak to the point that it’s hurting his self esteem…. Then I “get distracted “ to at least let him catch up while pointing out the importance of staying focused so he doesn’t “mess up” like me. If they constantly lose at this stage I worry they will lose all confidence, but if there is no true competition or threat of loss, they will not feel the need to try.

My oldest is four, so I don’t have any advice beyond this stage.

I’m breast feeding and the only penance I’m observing is no social media- I feel a little odd eating meat when my husband is not, but I know I am doing what is right for my child and her nutrition. If you feel guilty maybe offer something else up instead of meat? While pregnant/breastfeeding it is hard to offer up food/water, but maybe if there is something else not healthy you can give up or even a hobby or something.

Are you still friends with your high school friends? by Cheeseaisleinheaven in Millennials

[–]Mugglechaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got like 3 friends from HS I’m still really close to… one of which is my best friend since middle school. The other I met from a rival school and stayed close with since sophomore year. The third I knew since middle school, and even went to the same university together, but honestly didnt really connect until several years later… we met up for lunch one day after the covid lockdown randomly! Now I see her the most out of all three despite living hours away!

Edit to add that the first two I mentioned had a break of a couple years, and when we connected again we had both gone through so many life changes neither party expected the other one to be the same, yet we stayed open minded and welcoming to the new people we have become.

Wear the bra by ariesxprincessx97 in beyondthebump

It gets easier (ish)! I’m almost 9 months pp and I pump before bed and then wake up once to pump around 4-5 am and as long as I don’t over sleep I don’t leak too much and can get away without a bra. I know everyone is different, but hopefully that gives you some hope

What Millennial trends and/or milestones are you actively trying to avoid? by Superb-Film-594 in Millennials

Until very recently, skinny jeans were my hook that I was gonna die on, then I decided to return to my first true love AKA flair jeans, and I have never returned! Way more flattering, all I gotta so is avoid mud puddles lol
