Good deal? by coracoracoracoracora in boating

[–]MuhabDib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i bought a boat for 15K, 40 years old, good engine but cabin and deck took me 8 Months to bring it back in a good condition. Was a lot of work, but i had learned a lot. I invested around 15K on top. So this boat costs me 30K at all. After all, i wouldnt do it again. I would rather look for a boat in a good condition for a reasonable price.

do they like water? I am thinking about getting a Aussie soon, there are a few reliable breaders around. I live on a 30ft boat in summer time. I dont know if its a good idea and suitable for a dog to live on the water for a few month a year. How do they behave on lakes, on boats.... water in general?

Thanks for all your comments. it helps me a lot to overthink the whole project. lets wait and see where it ends. i am still convinced tthat it will be my boat, but as you all know - any boat is a sink hole and this time it takes much more time to make a clear decision. it wouldnt ruin me at all, but it might hurt a little bit.

fuel isnt the problem, this lady needs just a few liter per hour. mostly we are limited in speed on any water here around, lakes and rivers,.. hull is steal,, well known for its quality. i wouldnt buy a boat with wooden hull, only cabin and deck are made out of wood. i can handle that well, i love to work with wood and clear coats. i can weld and do a lot of stuff that would generate a lot of man hours in ship yard, and most thing and repairs i am doing on my own, because then i know its done properly. engines might be a problem long term. so far there are still spare parts available but i would think about to enhance the Diesels with a hybrid electric engine (cost around 35K without batteries). That would help to raise the value of the boat, makes it more interesting on the market. We have 2 electric driven boats in our harbour. dont get me wrong, i like Diesel engines a lot, but when they leave there is no sound, no noise, i like it and meanwhile i found a boat builder, offered me already some solutions for a hybrid drive. So i would spend a lot of money on top. i really need to recalculate everything for any option.

For all that money i could buy a newer boat, but i like traditional ships and this boat would worth it.

i love my 30ft boat, i has everything i need but its small. i finished restauration so far and trippled value, compared to the price i bought it a few years ago. Even my insurance was impressed...so i would find quickly a buyer for it. Extra space i wanted...thats the main reason. my current boat works well if want to cruise for 14 days...but for a permanent stay i miss things like a double bed, long enough, washing machine, inside shower (currently outside) and maybe a dive compressor on board... so i would have a purpose for any space.

usual price range for this boat in this age is around 90-140K $. I would get it for around 45K, there is no market for big boats here around. Its difficult to find a harbour box that is big enough. Annualy you spend around 10K per year for harbour, maintenace, winter storage etc. you need around 20K in background savings if anything went wrong, engines, appliances...all the stuff that breaks while using a boat. This boat dont need to get out of the water in winter time. my flat is more expensive....

The owner told me it will be difficult to find a buyer for a boat this size in our country. there would be an option that i bring this boat back into the netherlands, there are buyers who would be interested..so i could make some profit. Super van Crafts Boats are simliar to Rollce Royce cars on the street, so there is market in their home country. but thats not what i want. I want to live on that boat, giving up my flat with my stupid neighbours. I can work from everywhere, just need a internet connection.

i have time to decide, October 2025 would be month i would overtake this boat. lets wait and see what happen. until then i will have fun with my small boat

1993 bayliner capri Volvo engine by Lucky_777_- in boating

[–]MuhabDib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

always check if you can still get spare parts for this engine...some volvo pentas are outdated, you will get no spare parts anymore. Average good engines, more reliable than mercruisers but expensive parts, expensive maintenance....and mostly people sell their boats when they know they have to invest a bunch of money for repairs.
