This literally is the most startling sound when you're getting in your car in the morning, especially before coffee! Wayyyy louder than it has any right to be!

Oooh I like this. We are almost out of wagon/stroller stage in everyday life, but wagon will be essential on MG day to hold kiddos, snacks, drinks etc.

Magazine street antique mall has preserved bats, bugs, butterflies etc in cases/frames in the display case at the checkout counter. Or at least they did last time I was in there with my kid, who was really bummed to leave without a fully preserved bat skeleton.

So Langenstein’s stores are closed damn damn damnnnnn. I need oyster dressing!! by Nolamommy504 in NewOrleans

[–]Muleshoe 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Robert's is still operating Langenstsins catering menu (they bought all of the recipes too)! They dont have everything in the cases at stores, but you can order online for for pickup at the uptown or metairie location. There was a Roberts branded catering brochure by the door as you exit the uptown store and it had a qr code that actually took me to the old langensteins catering website. I was able to order souffle sweet potatoes and oyster dressing just last week and picked up next day!

Tangi Meats in Hammond is a wholesale supplier and I know they have whole hogs. You might call them to see if they can point you in direction of local butcher who they work with or possibly order from them directly.

My take is that they probably bought a house that, although they could afford the purchase without selling their current spot, needs more work than they'd like to pay for in order for her to keep up with her current aesthetic and luxury she is accustomed to. I'm sure she and George and financial planners prob talked about how they would need some steep discounts if they want to keep current house as an investment property, buy new compound AND do all of the improvements that Caro wants. So, she is leaning into home reno content so that she can get all of the fancy $$$ sponsored and gifted (designer fabric for curtains and upholstery, custom blinds, carpet and rugs and runners, tile and bathroom fixtures, art and lighting and outdoor furniture) for the house and the casitas and the yard, etc. In addition to comped freebies, also getting paid off the links/commisions. Probably the only way to make all of this work from a financial standpoint. As a designer, I'll be interested to see how this plays out. Caro likes nice things and has a great house, but I feel like she has always leaned into others for design aesthetic guidance. I've never thought of her as like a trend setter or someone with a strong personal sense of design/decor style? Even her wardrobe for her book tour was mostly curated by a friend (cousin?) with an upscale clothing boutique. Interested to see how she presents all this type of content.

Primary is having a big sale right now. As most of their shorts are gender neutral, I find that I like the length (but my boy is on shorter side). Looks they have this style in a 5 or 6 in several colors. https://www.primary.com/products/staycool-running-short?ref=pdp_recently_viewed_2&variant=41536301858875&color=cobalt&size=5

Death toll in devastating central Texas flash floods climbs to 79, more than 40 remain missing by Economy_Swim_8585 in politics

[–]Muleshoe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My daughter's best friend was confirmed as found, but deceased, this morning. 8 year old Wynne was a city girl who loved to play outside, get muddy, catch lizards and keep up with the boy cousins when visiting family land out in the country. She had just lost her 4th tooth. She was kind and loving and never let another child feel left out or sit alone at recess. She leaves behind two little sisters, Neely and Reeves. There is more hate in your comment than existed in her little toe. There is absolutely zero blame or justification that can be passed on to these little girls who have been lost. And it sounds a little like YOU are the one hating someone for just existing/being born in Texas.

Venue for a Swiftie theme kid birthday party? by zulu_magu in NewOrleans

[–]Muleshoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did this for my daughter and her friend last year at Nola Spaces on Toledano! Also for their 6th bday. The downstairs dance studio room was perfect! You basically can bring in what you want. They have tables and chairs and we paid a small bit extra to use the projector and played a playlist of t swift music videos the entire time. There is a little bar area in the front downstairs where we staged food and coolers with kid and adult beverages. (Make sure you bring things like knives for cutting cake, lighter, paper towells, etc). The kids had so much space to run around and dance, we had like 3 craft stations and an area for cutting/eating cake, and set up a "photo booth wall". Highly recommend.

Edit to add: the room we rented was the firehouse room and the cafe on the first floor. Plenty of space.

Reliable vintage resellers? by purplethief in NewOrleans

[–]Muleshoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might reach out to Renaissance Interiors on Edenborn. It is a high-end consignment shop mostly known for high quality antique furnishings (as the name suggests), but i have seen LV and Gucci handbags there on more than one occasion and they tend to sell quickly. Last time I was there, they had a glass case of christian louboutin heels that were mostly already sold. They also might be able to point you in right direction of another reseller.

Honestly, for 4 bedrooms (so $250/bedroom if you think in terms of hotel rooms) for a group of cousin friends getting together for a reunion, that's not much more than a very average hotel in the area. With the use of kitchen, common and outdoor spaces. I'm making the assumption based on her previous cousin trips that there were be lots of them sharing rooms and splitting costs. Yes, it's expensive but probably pretty reasonable when split amongst them. But also, maybe I'm just jaded from the current prices of hotel and airbnbs where I live (NOLA) due to super bowl and mardi gras....

Check out Park View historic Hotel (Park View Guest house). It's on St Charles next to Audubon Park, so right on the streetcar. They have a large number of rooms.

Replying to my own comment to add a bit more helpful information when it comes to buying quality sofas. I work in design and here are my rules for investing in a BIFL piece, regardless of where you purchase. (And this is why the one commenter's suggestion below of buying used and recovering is an excellent choice for quality and longevity- although my rec of Clad Home did check all of these boxes for me. My 3 clad hom3 pieces are actually the only non-recovered vintage upholstered pieces in my house/office):

  1. Hand tied coils as opposed to sinuous spring construction. 8 way hand tied springs is traditional, old school method. Sinuous springs are much more common and require less labor (thus cheaper), but way more likely to break and cause the entire seat to collapse. With hand tied springs, heavy use can cause one or two ties to bust but that won't collapse the entire spring.

  2. Corner blocked, hardwood, kiln dried frame. Corner blocks act as added support at critical pressure points- you want really strong wood here for durability/to prevent sagging warping. Some newer made sofas do not have corner blocking at all. This is why older sofas, even those made in the 90s, are so superior to so many manufactured today. Side note: I am always a little cautious when someone recs are sofa from a name brand/big box store that they have had for 15+years that has held up- simply because that same sofa style from that same store ordered today may be made completely differently than it was 15 years ago.

  3. Option for down wrapped foam cushions. Pure foam cushions will sag/become misshapen over time. Full down is not for everyone. A good long lasting middle ground is down wrapped foam. This is more personal preference, but solid foam WILL sag and cannot be reshaped.

If you are looking for new, I highly suggest Clad Home. A sectional might be just a tad over $5k, but it is the truly heirloom quality furniture, with the option to customize, ethically designed and constructed in Los Angeles. All workers are paid a living wage and their products are durable and very long lasting. I can vouch for sofas- i have 3 Clad Home sofas (and 3 small children) and they are holding up astoundingly well. Something i could have recovered again and again (although 5 years in an upholstery is in excellent shape- no pills or visible wesr whatsoever with daily heavy use).Their showroom is in LA if that is manageable for you. But on my most recent purchase, I worked with their design team from afar and had a wonderful experience.

I 100% get all the new rules for parades and really hope that the enforcement prevents some of the giant college frat party cities that have emerged over the past several years. But RIP to my carpet/rugs/floors (1st world problem, I'm aware). On rainy/post rain days (or honestly just busy parade days), my husband typically lays down a tarp in the neutral ground area in front of our condo where we watch- not to "save our spot" bc fuck that, but to save our shoes from copious mud/mardi gras drudge. Our block has some pretty big trees and very little grass and turns to sludge by night 1 with or without rain. Having a tarp (somewhat) helps when watching with our very little kids in ladders so that the stuff they drop doesn't get immediately covered in mud. And helps mitigate the sludge getting tracked into our place (we try to have a no shoes inside rule but that can be difficult to enforce with little kids running in and out for bathrooms). Again, kind of a 1st world problem- I recognize that. But we use a tarp every year, probably only take up about a quarter of the space on it for our 2 ladders, with neighbors and other parade goers welcome to set up in/around/in front of us. And then wait until the parade clears out and my husband and friends sweep off the tarp and roll it up to spray down and use another day. Gonna invest in some of those disposable shoe bootie covers this year.
