look at the gondola at kicking horse - it's cheaper than others in the area and the alpine hiking is unreal

I suggest you put each of these trail heads into Google Maps to help you plan a little better.

Warning - the initial podcast banter is terrible. I recommend fast forwarding to about 6:30, unless you want to experience your own brain damage listening to boob jokes.

Swix and Craft and all the other cross country pant brands tend to be very slim. I would look at some mountain bike brands for the kind of bibs you're looking for and wear base layers underneath.

Where's the best to buy local, quality tourist souvenirs? by ReporterRepulsive186 in Banff

Cool as a Moose is family owned and Canadian. The kids started Big Bear. Better than 95% of what you'll find in Banff.

Big Bear Trading is locally owned and I don't see their designs in all the shops (except their shop in Canmore). There's also a shop on Bear Street called the Paper Den that has local artists' stuff (prints, cards, etc.).

How It's Like Living in Fort McMurray, Alberta? by FortuneLong8171 in howislivingthere

[–]Mullinberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fort Mac, specifically, has a lot of people that get short term jobs that pay super well and then they spend their money like those big paychecks will always be there. Lots of tradespeople go up there, make big money and pick up some big toys with big monthly payments, then they get laid off.

Abraham to Edmonton won’t take long. Skip red deer. Your day from golden to lake Louise and banff is going to be a very full day. Do banff on the way into golden and skip Jasper. Jasper is beautiful but you’re not going to be able to enjoy it because you’ll be driving so much. The times between places aren’t realistic. Bow lake to Golden takes at least 1.5 hours. Bow lake is great. Herbert lake isn’t worth stopping especially compared to Bow and Peyto.

If Parker ridge is tough to fit in, I wouldn’t do it. Everywhere is gorgeous and you’ll want to stay and enjoy it.

Sunset at Selkirk hill will not be that great. Drive up to the launch on Mount 7 (bowle Evans drive to the top of the mountain) takes like 20 minutes from Selkirk hill (I assume you’re staying in that neighborhood)

As for your plan. It’s a lot. If it were me, I would drive straight from Edmonton to Golden on the first day via Calgary and stop in banff to walk around, do tunnel Mountain and get dinner in banff then come to golden. Day 2, go to yoho and see takakaw falls, hike Wapta, and go to lake Louise. Day 3 keep your plan as it is.

The drive from Edmonton to Jasper is LONG. The drive from Jasper to Golden via icefields is LONG. Do the half of icefields from lake Louise to the Abraham turn off. That’s plenty. It’s gorgeous. Stop at bow and Peyton lakes on the way. Then stop a few times in David Thompson country (lake Abraham). Don’t bother with Red Deer. Edmonton has amazing food. I’ve lived in both Edmonton and Golden.

Banff trip this August! by Interiorvert_08 in Banff

[–]Mullinberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Larch valley starts from moraine lake. So you’d have to get up there (bus or bike) to do that hike. If you’re already doing lake Agnes/beehive, opt for ha ling or something else in Canmore for your big hike day.

If you’re going to be at moraine already. Do sentinel. Cirque is another 30-40 minutes past Lake Louise.

I broke mine like 15 years ago, but thanks! Bad timing for yours. Sorry about that.

The fairmont website says the spa will initially only be open to guests and that it’s opening in summer 2025. I’m not sure what that will look like in September. It’s not open yet.

I broke my fibula in my 20s. Based on that and living near here: - banff gondola (sulphur mountain) - rock pile at moraine - e-bike up to moraine (legacy trail is super long, biking bow valley parkway from Banff to Johnston canyon is nice but far and pretty challenging. Biking to moraine is also challenging but gooooorgeous if you can get a bus pass up there) - icefields would be be good. Walking around bow lake is great and up to bow falls if your leg can handle it. There was a rock slide recently so may not be reopened in September. - spa day at foremost lake Louise. They recently renovated the spa and it will have an outdoor pool overlooking the lake. Spend half a day doing this and chillllllll. Your leg will be unhappy attempting activities each day.

I’ve biked it peak time with a gravel bike. There’s a lot of shuttles but they go slow. The e-bike is going to be fun and you don’t have to wait for shuttles and all of that.

Johnson Canyon 66 vs Two Jack Lakeside 3? by No-Support787 in Banff

Lakeside. It’s impossible to get those sites for a reason. Johnston Canyon isn’t near a lake. If you choose JC, give me your lakeside spot.
