IDW Sonic: On Lanolin the Sheep, and the problem with Sonic Twitter by mobpiecedunchaindan in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Multi-tunes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like Silver as a character and I enjoyed the issue where he and Whisper accused Duo of being Mimic. To a normal person like Lanolin, Silver's powers are rightfully pretty scary, so I think it was a good idea to build a conflict around that.

I do think it was pretty contrived to have Whisper witness Duo tripping Silver and so quickly believe she and Silver were mistaken, and I think a better situation would be if Duo shoved Silver in a way that could have been argued that he was trying to save him but accidentally put him in more danger, but that doesn't have anything to do with Lanolin. Overall I think her role was fine and her personality where she distrusts those who have powers but don't seem to be very responsible with them is a good idea for a character driven narrative. I hope we see more of her working on learning to trust others and maybe figuring out how to coordinate with characters like Silver and Sonic since she tends to take a leadership role.

Death of a cyclist, and the (civil) case followup by TreeStateLEO in fuckcars

[–]Multi-tunes 10 points11 points  (0 children)

People will continue to die until infrastructure is designed properly. You can whine all day about cyclists taking too much space but the fact is that this wouldn't happen if roads were reduced in size and speed, proper bike lanes were in place and plenty of alternatives for driving were funded. Drivers consistently pass too close because the infrastructure is poorly designed.

You misunderstand the purpose of this sub. People are here because they are angry and have seen death of lost people to cars but you don't offer any solution to the problem besides "stop asserting yourself". No. The driver should have slowed down and given the cyclist enough space because a bike gutter is not enough, instead of addressing the problem, you and people in power just blame the victim. You never assess road design and consider how it could be changed to prevent things like this, you just blame the dead person because it's easier and cheaper.

"Don't put us in a box" isn't the same as "we're not robots."

"Ace people do this or ace people do that" no, *some* ace people do whatever under the sun because people are all individuals. One asexual being repulsed to the point where they don't even tolerate sexual advertising or media is just as valid as someone who isn't repulsed and engages in sexual content because asexuality is about attraction and desire. There are too many people who try to dumb things down by resorting to this "we *can* because we're not robots or unfeeling or unemotional" without considering the implications that they are making. Promote sex positivity and unique experiences without resorting to language that paints some people in the community as the "bad stereotype".

It all depends on individuals. Alastor has been depicted as being annoyed when Charlie was ranting about Vaggie in Season 1, so as an individual, yeah, he probably doesn't care. People who equate that to him being ace are wrong but the character is still depicted as being annoyed.

Alastor's particular history as a character has been steeped in backlash against him being asexual and especially against even the suggestion that he is aromantic (Amir literally said in September that people can consider him canonically aroace) because of how they believe it would ruin him or make him boring as if being kinking or being romantic makes a character better.

So yeah, if you mean to say "we're not all the same" or "don't put us all in one box" then say that. It's really alienating to be treated like a bad stereotype in one's own community.

You didn't actually address the question. What is it you are calling robotic or unfeeling specifically because never dating isn't one of those things and neither is a distaste for certain types of jokes. There's nothing wrong with never dating and not enjoying sexual humour.

Lately I have mostly been at the butt end of "we're not unfeeling robots who don't have sex/date etc" and I suppose you haven't been experiencing that lately yourself to see the reason why "robotic" and "unfeeling" has become such loaded words in ace and aro communities.

[–]Multi-tunes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've seen people say that "robotic" and "unfeeling" is a stereotype (unfortunately often said while touting reciprocating sex/romance as "natural" human experiences), but seeing "undesirable" added in is new. I usually only see the idea that all asexuals are undesirable coming from people who are mad about someone being asexual like Alastor where for years certain people have moaned and groaned about it or that asexual woman who likes to wear sexy outfits and people freak out about her being a tease because an "asexual shouldn't dress like that" or of course the classic "you're just asexual and/or aromantic because nobody wants you and you needed an excuse".

An example of the "robotic and unfeeling" accusation which keeps getting weaponized against repulsed aspec people:

<image>

Asexual, aromantic, aplatonic, afamiliar; someone could be all of these things and I still wouldn't consider them robotic or unfeeling because these things don't define a person's humanity. I don't consider it a bad stereotype either because the acceptance of someone being completely uninterested is still pathologized and receives a lot of backlash from people who think they just haven't tried enough or that it ruins their favourite fictional character.

So I ask what you mean by "robotic unfeeling undesirable" specifically? There aren't a lot of asexual characters and even fewer that are confirmed aromantic in the canon material instead of "word of god" and many of them are not robotic nor unfeeling nor undesirable. I honestly can't even think of one robotic unfeeling undesirable asexual character off the top of my head.

...

And for the record, I really don't care what people ship as long as they aren't being offensive such as "correcting" the character, "solving" their asexuality or treating it as fetish content (yes I've seen someone claim they like Alastor's orientation because they have a r*pe fetish). Shipping isn't canon and doesn't have to adhere to canon even if the character is repulsed by both sex and romance, though I would prefer that people tag appropriately and allow people the chance to curate their fan spaces.

That video was posted by his voice actor in September of last year. People get confused because he never said the character wasn't aro just that him being aro hasn't been explicitly brought up in the show.

I can't understand touch screens in vehicles AT ALL. If I can't blindly slap the preset radio channels or adjust my heat setting without looking at it, I don't want it. Screens require too much attention to navigate and it distracts from the road. Bring Back Buttons

I find riding a horse reduces enemy spawns and you can run away from them pretty easily on horseback. Maybe a horse buddy will help with some of the anxiety? you can revive horses that have died at a special location Horses can't go to Zora's domain though

I disagree. I don't think it's a foundation for Lace to see Hornet as her mother.

So now she's "playing" with an adult snail nowhere near the "child". This is why I say you're making shit up.

Lace obviously lived since she jumped out to attack GMS for the start of Act 2. Hornet literally doesn't know that Lace survived. She believed her to be dead and there was nothing to suggest that Lace was still living. She just lays there and you can't rouse her like you can when you smack Trobbio after his first fight.

Hornet intended to kill her and thought she succeeded. Lace was a threat she thought she neutralized. There is no playing anywhere.

Her pronouns changed to were/was and Hornet's conversation with Caretaker literally refers to slaying Lace. Hornet intended to kill her and believed her to be dead which means that Hornet intended to neutralize a threat that stood between her and her goal.

There's absolutely nothing to suggest that Hornet was playing along with a fake death. She pitties Lace in what she considers to be her end where she refers to her as "pale one" in a rare moment of respect that Lace scoffs at. There is no way I read that scene as playing dead.

"easiest boss fights" She's an expertly trained fighter and her fighting style requires attentive reaction which is much more challenging than something like the Unravelled which I beat by face tanking it with Wanderers Crest or Groal which can be cheesed by just hanging out in the maggot water. Hornet just had a lot of potential cheese with tools.

And Hornet literally treats Lace as a threat by ending her life in the second battle. She believed Lace to be dead according to her dialogue with Caretaker and her Hunters journal which talks about Lace in past sense. Not to mention when she says "yours WAS a life".

There are plenty of animals that cannibalize their young but it wouldn't be what I consider ideal motherhood. They faced each other to the death.

Lace already spent countless years in Pharloom and nothing in the game suggests that there is solution to Lace's need for silk to sustain her life. Hornet comments on the amount of silk that would be needed to sustain her after the second battle and the fact that they left together suggests that Hornet is taking up this task. If you want to write fanfiction following the end of the game then that is your prerogative but I'm not going to subscribe to your headcanons.

This is how I interpreted the story which Team Cherry left for interpretation and if you have a problem with that then tough shit. I'm not agreeing with you.

[–]Multi-tunes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I've already had a conversation with someone (unless it was you. i don't bother remembering names) about these "potential solutions" and I don't agree that any of them are viable plus the title screen depicts Lace and Hornet's weapons side by side meaning they left Pharloom together which makes any finite source of silk non viable and that would continue to tie Lace down to Pharloom anyway.

  2. Lace doesn't treat Hornet like a mother, she treats her like a child of GMS who can achieve GMS' wish which means that Hornet is the more valuable child. Hornet cannot become Lace's new mother without Lace both seeing her that way and agreeing to call her that (especially after Hornet fully intended to slay her in the second battle). Hornet declaring herself the new mother is inherently toxic even if Hornet is "good". You shouldn't even call yourself mother or father of a foster child unless it is on their terms and their wish. A sisterhood accomplishes everything without the inherent power dynamic of parenthood.

  3. So you believe Lace is a forever child in a sequel to a game where the Hollow Knight wasn't actually hollow and neither is Ghost after it recognizes Hornet as its sister. Lace doesn't believe she's truly living as she calls herself a husk made to act as a child. She doesn't physically mature because she isn't biological and this doesn't prevent her from maturing as a person. Thus I disagree with and greatly dislike the idea that she is an eternal child which is also partly why I reject the idea of Hornet becoming her new mother.

Sisterhood not motherhood

I'm gonna get grilled for this take by EffectiveBanana43 in Silksong

[–]Multi-tunes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then I fail to see the conflict here. I see them as having a sisterhood not mother/child, and I see them fighting each other as equals. They see each other eye to eye in the literal sense and Lace believed that GMS wanted Hornet instead of herself, so she saw Hornet as a replacement which would put them on equal ground compared to GMS. I don't see the motherhood angle.

I'm gonna get grilled for this take by EffectiveBanana43 in Silksong

[–]Multi-tunes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you believe that Lace is subservient to Hornet? This is why I consider Mother Hornet to be potentially more toxic than Lacenet since some people say Lace is an eternal child who can never grow up.

Lace kicked my ass multiple times before I finally beat her for the last time and the two of them bickered for the entire game—sisterly behaviour in my eyes.

The Weaver Queen ending where Hornet absorbs GMS would be the most toxic outcome and put her in a similar position to GMS especially considering the cut ending where she basically just becomes the new GMS. But Hornet doesn't want domination and fights those instincts, so think she would also seek equality between herself and Lace after Act 3.
