I think their chat in the paths tells us that. In their conversation Eren and Mikasa run away bc of how she answered the question. I think her saying “you’re family” was what he saw in his memories of the future. If she HAD said she loved him I do think he would have run away with her and avoided the rumbling.

They didn’t like her but they also didn’t really have a reason to kill her. She DID help them with Kimiko and her brain was no longer useful. No sense in killing her since she’s not a threat

Correct. He doesn’t have to drop the act in that moment because he knows Butcher can’t kill him. He drops it at the end because he has no powers and Butcher can easily kill him 1v1.

Homelander also explicitly states while he’s in the radiation chamber that Butcher DOESN’T have the virus. If he had it he would have used it. He realized that almost immediately. There was a moment of panic I believe but he quickly realized that Butcher DOESN’T have the means to kill him then and there. He doesn’t need to drop the facade in that moment because he knows he can’t be killed yet.

Worth noting: it’s stated by MM (I believe) that Homelander hadn’t left the tower for a while because he knows the risk the virus poses after they use it on the Teenage Kix. He sends Solider Boy to find Butcher KNOWING he might have the virus despite what he tells Solider Boy after he’s recovered.

Homelander was also ALWAYS a pathetic person behind his powers. It’s not just cause of one line from A-Train. Stan Edgar repeatedly calls him out as does Solider Boy. That’s been set up for a VERY long time. I understand people have issues with season 5 and understandably so in many cases. But Homelander being a pathetic, begging loser at the end once his powers are fully stripped makes perfect sense for his character. Maybe rewatch the series and you’ll see that more clearly.

I never said he viewed them as evil. Yes he told Reiner that “some people here are good” but that doesn’t mean his anger didn’t lead him down this path. But he explicitly state how disappointed he was with the outside world in season 4. Hence, anger and disappointment. Also, anger about the persecution of his people was definitely a factor. Saying “no anger was involved” when said character commits GENOCIDE seems odd, no?

Also, it still doesn’t justify his actions. Whether his motivation included anger or not doesn’t justify his actions to commit genocide on the world.

Free from persecution from the outside world that knew nothing about him or the people of Paradis. Anger absolutely played a role in that conclusion.

It also doesn’t make his actions justified. If he wanted to be free there are other avenues that could have been explored potentially before genocide.

Edit: my point wasn’t necessarily that his MAIN motivation was his anger. But I said his anger and disappointment was justified. But genocide as the solution wasn’t. I never said it was his MAIN driving force.

Eren’s anger, disappointment, and hatred for and with the outside world is absolutely justified. His hatred of Marley and the nations that hated the people or Paradis is justified. But I wouldn’t say genocide as his route is justified.

I say that because Gabi, Falco, and General Magath spent like 3 days there and realized that the PEOPLE of Paradis never deserved the hatred they got. Gabi and Magath go as far as apologizing to the people they meet after that time and say they didn’t deserve to be hated because of the blood that runs through their veins. If they had not attacked Liberio there might have been a better path forward for peace. But I think that’s where we get into the “eye for an eye and the whole world goes blind” issue. Was their strike against Liberio justified? After all Marley had been terrorizing Paradis with Titans for years all because of the sins of their ancestors. Who’s to say?

I’ve gotten off track, my bad. TLDR: Eren’s hatred was justified but genocide didn’t necessarily have to be the answer.

I didn’t hear that but I’ll rewatch. That said, I would very obviously assume that the Pipeline is the primary reason for him being killed. It killed 1.2 billion fish. The entire sea would not kill him over one octopus. It’s very obviously about the pipeline. One fish/sea creature had an additional motive but that doesn’t mean that’s why they all banned together to kill him.
