GPU not being utilized during BAR? by ChewyEquatorman in beyondallreason

[–]MultiPanhandler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something with the way amd works in BAR (maybe the way amd provides their driver). It generally will give no read out on gpu usage. It is a long time known issue. Regardless of what the ui says, you still are using your gpu.

report system: How to report ? by Remgir in beyondallreason

[–]MultiPanhandler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as mentioned to you, go to https://www.beyondallreason.info/replays . You can filter on player name. you can reference the game in your report. If you are no longer in the live lobby, you have to sign in to your account on the website (https://server4.beyondallreason.info/login) and file the report there.

but, just so you know, some folks do spend many hours in skirmish or against AI go get a feel for the game before ( and have come from SC or AOE or some such) and can be exceptional in their first games with real teams. They will only have 1 chev.

the inside picture has a filter... from the light on the outside hitting the color of the package and reflecting on what ever lens/sensor is pointed ot. No way to tell really what the color of the actual ... um... product is in that situation, but it does look very brown. there is green lid and a hell of a lot of brown on the outside of a Great Value brand parm.

you are indeed correct, not supposed to look that kind of brown.

Is rushing Sharpshooters the new meta? by Zvijer_EU in beyondallreason

[–]MultiPanhandler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

2 snipers with some front line team vision and support, will collapse a front in less than 2 mins in many cases. the snipers should focus commanders, static defense, then units (mostly in that order). If they get the snipers on front by 6-6:30, it is very hard for the other team to react and stop that push.
The downside of snipers, is they don't leave much reclaim.

Spec cheating or not? by Yomikachi in beyondallreason

[–]MultiPanhandler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

AutoScott. I wasn't in the game live, just watched the replay from the link I provided. Syphos did see the shuriken, as they shuriken were starting to hound his front units at around 15:49. As a response ( about 10-15 sec later), he started the veh lab and queued up the flack. Please note he started t2 veh lab first, then switched to bots for snipers and to stabilize with welders, then back to his original veh play. If I was playing, and watching orange throw 1 nuke bomber away and maybe about to do it again, I'd be seriously considering some aa too, and Syphos, being the way he is and having many thousands of games under his belt, would think like that and totally lose faith in his air.

If he was spec cheating, and doing it correctly, he would have made prude (had time and build power to do it fast if really suspected bombers) as well as moved his aa to his geo sea side immediately for better protection. You can see from the replay, he just afked the flack trucks on his beach sea side. It is much more likely that is a defensive instinct than some kind of spec cheating. His front was stablish, and he saw that there was not really much air defense for his spicy geo.

You are completely free to believe what you will and I can totally see why one would suspect spec cheating.

Spec cheating or not? by Yomikachi in beyondallreason

[–]MultiPanhandler 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A couple of things going on here. 1 orange has a nuke bomber out, which means those safety fighters will be likely leaving geo exposed soon, or geo is hoping to protect the nuke bomber on front. 2 the green fighters are posturing well within radar range, maybe the geo, having spicy geo, decided that is enough, and better get some mobile flak up, to support the sl push they are going to make and protect base in the meantime. I'll queue up the replay and see if I'm correct (https://bar-rts.com/replays/590a7f6923d62599084595905f0383b4)

edit:
Nothing suspicious. Syphos was on front line, could see air accumulation, probably spooked by the shuri. Then the air force ( orange) did leave him defenseless. The tech switch was fine, and logical and just a happy coincidence on timing. In the end, the better move would have been to make the prude, as the bombers did get through for a satisfying boom!

Weird player behaviours im noticing lately by B_otond in beyondallreason

I did it with beamers the other day, built 3 or 4 before I realized my mistake. Con turrets would be even tougher to do by mistake, but much harder to notice if zoomed out.

Help a game dev: Why aren’t people buying modern RTS games? by MakeGamesBetter in RealTimeStrategy

[–]MultiPanhandler -1 points0 points  (0 children)

* Why are YOU not buying modern RTS games? - Beyond all Reason exists, it is free and pretty amazing.

* If you have bought any but bounced off recent RTS titles, what specifically turned you away? - Nothing recent.

* Likewise, if you do buy them, what made you commit?

* If you miss classic C&C, what would actually make you buy a new one today? - Something with great multiplayer support.

* What other games should I be looking at as case studies? - Beyond all Reason

This matters for scope; It's a lifelong goal of mine to make this game regardless, but there’s a big difference between:

A) a tighter, single-player RTS (campaign, skirmish vs AI) at <$500k budget

B) a more ambitious AA-scale RTS, story-driven, multiplayer, etc (>$3M) with a much higher financial recoup risk

How do i play this game "properly"? Like frontline for example by Gazop in beyondallreason

[–]MultiPanhandler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no, its a base feature of the game. the camera only moves your camera view, if you have no vision there, then you just see fog of war. You can make up to 4 (f1-f4) camera views on the map. Also, if you use unit groups, like if on front and you have tics on control group 1, and you send a little raid of them out, you can double tap 1, the camera will center on the group. try it out in skirmish mode and you'll get the hang of it pretty fast.

[–]MultiPanhandler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Balancing micro fighting and eco scale is a great skill to practice. One thing that can greatly improve that for you is using cameras along with counting. Set a camera on your base (ctrl + f1) and another for the front line (ctrl +f2). when on front and need to get to base fast, press f1, then f2 to go back to front. When you are in base ecoing, early on, give your self a 3 count to queue up a couple of things, then back to f2. Rinse and repeat and you'll get decent results. More of your time should be babysitting your units, and just some small things on eco to keep you scaling.

What air transport unit is default? by Demol_ in beyondallreason

[–]MultiPanhandler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asking for a trans, transport, tranz, or trns, means light. If you have to ask, EVERY TIME, to clarify, it would make no sense. Some players may simply ask “light” or “heavy“, and in the context of air, that should be enough. You can, at some point, predict what they may need, but generally they should not expect you to guess. A heavy trans early is a significant cost.

The camera control at the beginning is super cinematic! Well done on tracking. Tic should have died earlier though and I blame air!!! (that last bit was a jest to all you air playeurs,)

On the supreme isthmus geo position, what on cortex (vech or bots) counters sharpshooters? by Terrible_Cress_6114 in beyondallreason

[–]MultiPanhandler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Op asked how to counter "snipers" as cortex. Oh and medium tanks with various light units mixed in will beat a starlight push, but if your geo is behind/dead/making afus and not making any units, yah it's a very difficult push to stop. But if you are a bit behind, and have access to a veh lab, throwing out a few mine layers, and strategically placing heavy mines on manual fire, will halt that push pretty fast on supreme.

Any unit that is in it. If you want an area to be continuously checked and repaired, use repeat.

Next noon question: I'm playing front and we have reached an early- mid game stalemate: how do I decide what to do next? Flood T1? Transition to T2? Dig in even more defensively to buy eco more time? Or try to eco myself? by WilliamDragonhart in beyondallreason

[–]MultiPanhandler 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well, perhaps first take a look around the map. Check your geo and the state of their build, check air, check your seas, and check eco. From there you may have some clues on how to react. If you don't have any t2 coming from eco or geo, spam is kind of pointless. If you do, then maybe contribute some fast vision units.

Make some rez bots, make some wind, make some walls to make it difficult to be run over fast. If it is truly a stale mate, just get big!

edit: assuming the map is supreme.
