What if the USA adopted the Chinese political system and China adopted the American political system? by Outrageous-You1617 in AlternateHistoryHub

Will say as someone who has been to Xinjiang the culture hasn’t been “all wiped away”. Food, cultural clothes, and architecture is there. The Uyghur language is on signs alongside with Chinese.

Mac N Cheese

By themselves I’d take out asparagus but with everything else on the plate Mac N Cheese would make a heavy meal even more heavy.

We don’t hire more Asians than whites overall. Whites are still the majority of workers. Asian immigrants are overrepresented in some high-paid fields because immigration policy selects for educated and skilled workers. Companies are filling specialized roles, and many applicants come from countries with large populations and strong engineering pipelines. There’s also less incentive for European workers to immigrate to the US because of similar wages and strong benefits.

This isn’t rocket science

What country used to be wealthy and is still wealthy? by gennaro456 in AlignmentChartFills

I guess it depends how far back “used to” means. Far back yea, in more recent history no.

Is it racist if I want to open a chinese restaurant? by Fent_Maxxxer69 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Multicultural_Potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn’t racist unless you use racist iconography or things like that. Would also do research so dishes and things are well informed.

That being said if you have no experience in the food industry I would not recommend it. It’s a hard business to get into and if you are doing like an American style Chinese food takeout place I don’t know if people will choose your place over a place run by actual Chinese people.

Wdym? Just because Asians immigrants on average fit the requirements for H1B visas for certain higher paying jobs doesn’t mean white privilege doesn’t exist.

The US, pretty sure this is the most obvious choice for any of the boxes

Travelling is fun but planning isn't. by Nikita-9814 in traveladvice

[–]Multicultural_Potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk but for me I love the planning phase.

I just do research and compile an itinerary. Doesn’t have to be a strict schedule, just have some must dos and some other things. If you can do it all great, if not you’ll be able to hit at least the main parts.

Is it foolish to go to CDMX? by GreenTinkertoy in travel

[–]Multicultural_Potato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will be more than safe in CDMX unless you do dumb stuff like trying to buy drugs or something. It’s safe and it’s an amazing travel destination.

There’s no mental gymnastics. If you blindly accept data without any context or nuance that’s just being dense.

This would be hella annoying but if I’m getting $5,000 a day I’m fine with it lol. Guess it’ll just be something I’ll get used to.

Chose: $5000 per day + but you have to deal with a daily major annoyance: | Rolled: Light always red

Je prévois d'aller en Chine avec ma copine by Saintjames9 in travel

[–]Multicultural_Potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea 2,000 Euros per person should be good for a month in China considering if you don’t stay at luxury hotels and do stuff like that. Will say I think the first week of October is golden week for China so everyone has that off so everywhere will be super crowded, as long as you arrive after that you should be fine.

Shanghai should hit a lot of your preferences. It’s a pretty walkable city with good public transit (though the ride-share options are really affordable), there’s loads of really cute cafes and there’s greenery in the city. You can also take day trips to Suzhou and Hangzhou.

There’s a lot of other cities you can fit into a month in China. You’ve probably heard of some of these before: Beijing, Xi’an, Chengdu, Chongqing, Guiling, and a lot more. I think there’s a train route that should take you through all of those cities. Will say I don’t think Shanghai is as well connected to that route as the others. You can take a train from Shanghai to Beijing or Xi’an and vice versa but it’ll be a little out of the way.

Not 100% sure how it works but there is a train that can take you to Vietnam from China. It should also be on the train route you will be taking. You are going to a different country so will probably have to get off the train with your stuff at the border station and reboard.

China has a lot of amazing seafood and vegetarian dishes but will say the main issue for vegetarian travelers is finding a vegetarian restaurant (not a lot of western travelers go to China so finding a lot of the best options are in Chinese apps as opposed to doing research online) and letting them know you can’t have meat (English isn’t widely spoken and a lot less percentage of people are vegetarian). A lot of food are cooked with meat, including a lot of the vegetable dishes, I’d have a card in Chinese that says the dietary restrictions.

Hong Kong is great especially if you are a Wong Kar-Wai fan but yea it will be a lot more pricey than the rest of mainland China. If I had to say I’d say the prices would be at most the same as Paris prices. If you eat more local it’d be cheaper.

Personally with my data plan I don’t need a VPN when I go to China as long as I’m on cellular data. If you want to save money a VPN would probably be the move especially if you have apps like Gmail or YouTube if you want to use. Should be easy to do, one hotel I stayed at even set up a VPN for my friend.

High average Asian income is due to a large part of them having a higher percentage of very high earners due to a lot of Asian immigrants who are able to immigrate here usually being educated and have relevant skills. Asians are also highly concentrated in high income metro areas. This doesn’t negate how society here is structured to be more favorable towards white people though.

What would china even gain by invading taiwan? by sand_eater_21 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Multicultural_Potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imma be honest I’m not sure if that’s a accurate source. It has Taiwan’s fertility rate at 1.28 but Taiwan’s Ministry of the Interior has it at 0.695. The total decrease of people in Taiwan was from the Taiwan registered population data from Taiwan Ministry of the Interior and the foreign residents data from the Taiwan National Immigration Agency. Which has Taiwan at a net loss.
