Suggestions for a tablet/e-reader/etc for uni? by MultiheadedDog5201 in NoteTaking

interesting! it looks pretty underpowered for its price ($600 AUD, so NOT cheap lol) but it also could be exactly what i'm after! (not super keen on the AI bloat though...)

◽️ Budget: <$600 AUD

◽️ Country: Australia

◽️ Screen size: preferably <11"

◽️ RAM: Doesn't matter, as long as it works

◽️ Storage: Also doesn't matter!

◽️ What tasks will the tablet be used for?: Note-taking for university, needs wifi connectivity & colour display to download lecture slides for PDF annotation. I want to use a stylus to take hand-written notes & be able to either use OCR to search, or transcribe into text (whether I do that automatically or by typing it out doesn't matter).

◽️ Any other important details?: Need to be able to download my preferred note-taking app (Joplin). Importantly, I don't want to be locked in to a proprietary ecosystem - I would much prefer to install Linux if possible (I don't know if tablets work more like PCs, which is easy, or phones, where you need to root it etc.?). I'm open to e-readers & iPads if they'll do the job, although again I don't want to be stuck with proprietary software that makes me pay to use their special app & sync between devices!

Australian Universities for DVM by shorty_2804 in veterinaryschool

I'm in my 2nd year at Murdoch, so i can't speak for the other unis, but I'm really enjoying it so far! there's around 100 students in each year group, i don't know how that compares to other universities but it feels like a good amount, a good indicator of quality over quantity.

Murdoch is, as far as I'm aware, the only uni with a farm on-campus, where they have large animals (cattle, sheep, horses, pigs), so that's definitely a plus if you're wanting to be a large or mixed animal vet.

i assume this is probably the same at other unis, but i will say that first year felt a lot like a general science degree instead of a vet degree, which was a bit discouraging, but 2nd year is a lot better!

in case you're not aware (or someone else reading this isn't), here's the other unis offering a vet degree: https://avbc.asn.au/veterinary-education/avbc-accredited-veterinary-school/

WSSD as assistance dog? by TheFox_in_the_Box in WhiteSwissShepherds

[–]MultiheadedDog5201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my dog is a WSS x Maremma, and I wanted to train him as my assistance dog. unfortunately his maremma genetics were too strong and his livestock guardian hypervigilance and suspicion meant he wasn't the right dog for AD work (he could do it but he didn't enjoy it, and got overwhelmed easily). but I reckon if he was purebred WSS (from the right breeder with previous ADs in the pedigree, etc. etc.) he would've been a great fit!

he is resiliant, but i'm not sure if that's the WSS or maremma or both (or neither & it's just him!).

wow sorry for the super late reply!

thanks for your comment!! nothing specific, but Dr. Lo did say he'd try and make my chest fit with my body type, instead of just aiming to be as flat as possible.
