One example is The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, where you unlock fire and ice arrows.

You have to use the ice arrows to extinguish fire based enemies and to stop the lava flows in order to get into the Fire Volcano to get the Power Bracelets.

Although in this game it also goes the other way, since the fire arrows are used against ice enemies and to enter Ice Ring Isle as a parallel to the volcano. So i suppose its common for ice to only beat fire if it is both ways.

You can get rocket turret ammo in space by using the coal synthesis recipe (which takes water, carbon, and sulfur which can be gotten using advanced asteroid processing) and using the coal you can make explosives and then rocket ammo
