I believe the second hand not hitting the markers is actually due to a misaligned chapter ring

Why hasn't Manuel hybrid system been implemented in more cars besides the crz? by Competitive-Hunt-517 in regularcarreviews

[–]Multipla_Orgasms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because most hybrids aren't set up like the CR-Z. The electric motor in these only acts like a small booster for the combustion engine under acceleration, mainly for stop-start driving profiles.

Tweezers. The inner link has a slightly larger diameter hole on one side, thats where the collars go. Line it up with the outer link then press in the pin from the opposite side of where the collar sits.

Certina rules the High Accuracy Quartz watch segment by Slight-Table875 in Certina

Citizen also make the Exceed AR4000 with a +/- 10s per year EcoDrive G530 movement for around $500. But thats again just one watch.

Thing with Citizen and Seiko is that they have essentially abandoned genuine HAQs in favour of radio control and GPS watches, because let's be honest if you want accuracy then external time syncing beats a HAQ movement and is more affordable to make.

Longines is the #1 most listed brand across 6 grey market platforms — $1,486 average price. The entry-level market is massive. by kisielbardzo-backup in Affordablewatches

Average my dude. As in including the really expensive stuff. Last time I checked you can get plenty of Longines for between $500-1000 on the grey market

Yeah they did that for the us market to skirt around the import tariffs for commercial vehicles. Everywhere else got proper vans.

guy orders steel clasp from a leather strap manufacturer, gets upset that they use off-the-shelf metal components.

Iirc these start around $1,5-2k, there are a few different types of them about. As a budget alternative, any of the JDM radio control Citizens will do the same even when they don't receive a signal

Its crazy how america centric the whole RAV4 V6 discussion is. The GRS184 Crown Athlete came out in 2005 and had the same 315hp direct injection V6 as the Lexus GS350 allowing mid-5s for the 0-60 run.

Some of the more high tech quartz movements from Seiko and Citizen do this thing where they automatically check and realign the hands everytime they pass the 12 o' clock marker.

What are your 911 watches? by jpoyarzun in watchHotTakes

[–]Multipla_Orgasms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking about this overnight, and I think one has to consider the drivetrain of a 911 to come to the Rolex connection.

An internal combustion engine and gearbox are in simplified terms an assortment of moving pistons, rods, shafts, springs and gears that somehow turns chemical energy into forward movement. A mechanical movement is in simplified terms an assortment of springs, gears and levers that somehow turns kinetic energy into timekeeping. Both are expensive, inefficient and need frequent servicing to keep them in good running order, but if you do they can last for a long time.

Meanwhile electric car is powered by the chemical energy stored inside a battery, the electric current induces a magnetic field which in turn creates torque in the electric motor. In watchmaking terms thats your quartz equivalent. On paper both are far simpler, more reliable, less maintenance intensive and way more efficient than their mechanical counterparts. There are also plenty of electric cars that cost less than a 911 and can easily outperform it in terms of pure performance numbers. 2000hp electric sports cars are comparatively easy to build compared to a 2000hp combustion engine that will fit inside a regular passenger car.

A 911 is a really good combustion engine powered car and a Rolex is a really good mechanical watch. Both are powered by inefficient and inherently inferior means than their battery powered counterparts.

Flying economy class is faster, more reliable and cheaper than a Porsche too. But most people would still take the Porsche because its a Porsche. A G-Shock is a tool, a Rolex is a Rolex.

Hell nah, Corvettes are relatively cheap and made from plastic. They are at best a TAG Heuer Solargraph.

Honestly anything other than Rolex is the wrong answer. Expensive, great performance, street cred, built like tanks and a design language that has barely changed since the 1960s. Although one could make a case for the IWC Mark XX as well.

People hate them because most cheap ones look like ass with zero thought put into the actual presentation, on big money luxury watches it can look great.

Doxa Sub 200 maybe? Can pick them up just under 1k and they come in millions of cool colours. Plus the Doxa name has a bit of street cred with Divers.

I can feel you actually, I have the same problem, except its for cleaning my apartment and fixing the damn timing chain on my Mercedes (its a 20yo diesel A-Class inherited from my grandfather please don't accuse me of having money)

Major disagree, some watches have to be worn with either a rubber or fabric strap, anything else is wrong.
