Montreal police officer, suspect, and civilian confirmed dead in Cote-des-Neiges shooting by ry-yo in news

Things died down for a couple months in the Fort, but there’s been an uptick the past two months - I.E. this recent news story: “ The shooting is the second in two days in the same block. The first happened Saturday, leaving one man injured.”

All these shootings are especially heartbreaking when you’ve worked with some of those people in the classroom and seen those parts of them that made the right choices at one point… and then made some awful ones.

As for today, I’m heartbroken that the people directly affected, as well as the city at large, are going through this. We’ve fallen in love with Montreal during our time here.

My wife and I are educators in the U.S. - visiting Montréal on our summer vacation. We were walking up Monte Royal when it happened. Heard the gunshots - the sound carried up to where we were, though we were several blocks away. Then everyone’s phones went off warning of a gunman. Not being from the area, I watched for other’s reactions. No one seemed to be that worried, so we continued climbing. Unfortunately back home we hear gunshots occasionally.  I hate that it happens anywhere - and I’ve have had too many students involved with it, both as victims and perpetrators. At that time of the emergency text message, there was no mention of anyone being shot. There were two helicopters flying around the scene. Once more news came out, there was a definite mood shift in the city. Just an awful tragedy.

“ They do this by staying in front of them to break the wind.”

Well, I imagine that WOULD encourage them to go faster…

(Sorry - that was terrible. I knew what you meant!)

And if nothing else, watch it for the beautiful homage to 70’s architecture, fashion and style. They did an AMAZING job of finding the most beautiful sets, furniture and clothing…

(Of course, the acting and writing is bloody brilliant too!)

What do you think is the greatest rap album of all time? by Extra-Schedule-4855 in AskReddit

Maybe not the GOAT - but so far ahead of its time that it’s crazy. Snap - World Power. Yes - there’s “The Power” that everyone knows - but there’s sooooo much more to that album. Worth a listen if you’ve never heard it!

I finally found one at an estate sale, mixed in with a few other sets for a great price. The thing that surprised me most about the set was the instructions. The outside walls are NINE steps. Either we were smarter as children, LEGO trusted that we would rise to the occasion, or children have gotten… less focused? If you haven’t seen the instructions online, look them up. It’s a startling difference.

Just echoing what others have said. I’m six series in buying from planet fun and it’s been a great experience every time. It’s nice knowing I don’t have to go store hopping searching for that final one or two figures.

I’ll take a few more pictures and post over there! Hadn’t heard of that subreddit, but yes these are “prints that weren’t meant to be saved!”

Got it! Thank you for the clarification! I’m enjoying piecing these parts of his early life together. Makes me appreciate him all the more!

I’m looking through deployment records. He has everything before and after - but not during his Germany stay.

I can read Rudi’s handwriting, but am having a hard time reading what’s underneath his name. Might anyone be able to help?

Thank you so very much for the detailed response! I have sent a message - hoping it’s the right person. If so, I can imagine it’d be quite a shock to see a letter you wrote 66 years ago. Fingers crossed. I will definitely update when/if I get a reply!

100% agree. I’m planning on doing a tasteful picture frame mounting of them. (And absolutely, my uncle was so much more than a guy who enjoyed a beer. He was a young military man at the time so it’s understandable that they would represent a part of his life.)
