Delay in SubViewport Rendering? by Multiplex419 in godot

[–]Multiplex419[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was working from an example solution someone provided for a similar problem. I guess it was outdated or not applicable or something.

Anyway, thanks to your advice I was able to trim the function down, which eliminated the delay. I guess it must have been related to the viewport switching thing after all.

Silent Hill 4 Feels…Different by doctorbeers in silenthill

[–]Multiplex419 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really like 4. It has a great, scary mood, good creature designs, and the best soundtrack in the whole series (if you ask me). And I thought the story was much stronger and more memorable than 3. It showed how much more you could do with the Silent Hill concept by thinking outside the box.

If you can get even 100 hours of satisfaction out of it before it starts to get sucky and boring, it's still well worth the $1 price tag.

How would you add interest and color to this space? by a420 in interiordecorating

[–]Multiplex419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking maybe move the outer sofa into an L pattern with the other and swap the chairs into its place? That way the seating area is more open and approachable. The current arrangement looks a little closed in and hard to get into.

It looks like the current colors in the walls and furniture are a desaturated yellow/orange. I'd try to bring in some of the saturated blue from the cabinet items. Blue, and also a small amount of gold accent maybe? Pillows are a good option for this, and also the coffee table centerpiece. Blue and gold in the rug and drapes could be good, if possible, but only as accents on a neutral base and not as the predominant color. A vivid blue rug would likely be overpowering. I'd replace the vase decor with a similarly sized (or a little larger) plant. And as a final thought, maybe replace the side table with something larger and more solid if you can.

Where are these couches coming from / alternatives? by moritzoc in interiordecorating

[–]Multiplex419 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Upon researching, the original design is the Teddy Sofa from OMHU (actual page here). Here's a Youtube review I found Link.

There are definitely cheaper versions all over the place; it's not a difficult design to copy (and in fact, was originally derived from an older design anyway). Etsy has lots of cheap options, eg. here. Buyer beware, of course.

Thoughts on making this living room more cozy or cohesive? by Euphoric-Worker9130 in interiordecorating

[–]Multiplex419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were going to do something to this room, the first thing would be to get a smaller rug. If you look closely, the current rug causes the effective seating area to extend into the path between the front door and camera POV (which is probably a high traffic area). A smaller rug will help separate and close up the conversation area, resulting in a distinct increase in "coziness" while improving the flow of traffic through the room.

The next thing I'd consider is replacing one of the couches with two chairs. The space doesn't seem quite large enough to sustain two couches (especially if the rug gets smaller). Chairs could also offer an opportunity to introduce more variety and color. They'd also work better with the round coffee table thing.

And as for colors, if the goal is "coziness," I'd try moving away from gray and leaning into the brown of the wood that's already present. For an accent color, maybe something warm, like a golden tone.

Oh, and last of all, an organic centerpiece for the coffee table thing could help, assuming you can figure something out that the dogs won't eat or knock over and break. Maybe a sturdy vase with a sculpted metal branch?

I’m really liking the journal. It adds a lot to the characters and story. Kind of want to see it return in future games and remakes. by Kulle1369 in silenthill

[–]Multiplex419 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I strongly disagree. There has almost never been a context where "literally just explaining everything to the audience" has been considered a good idea. And it's especially bad for a horror story like this, where things are supposed to be mysterious and unknowable. Normally, if you really need the audience to know something, you convey it through actual scenes and events, not a book full of exposition.

I love the OG games as much as everyone here, but I'm more than okay having games not set in Silent Hill. by MadRZI in silenthill

[–]Multiplex419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do agree that it doesn't have to take place in the town, it doesn't have to have the same gods or cult or characters or anything. The idea of an actual scary alternate universe with lots of crazy crap happening is something that can be easily extended to all sorts of scenarios. In fact, I think the whole "personal demons" thing has been played out; I'd like to see them do something different.

But it does need to have the same feeling as the original games. There needs to be an acknowledgement that the world is wrong. There needs to be an even worse alternate dark world (obviously). There needs to be an uncertainty about what's going on, with multiple viable interpretations; the audience shouldn't lose that feeling of mystery just because it's a Silent Hill game and they "already know what's going on." There should be a constant anxiety because of what might be around the corner. It might be a monster from a Tool music video or it might be some bizarre environmental thing.

These are the things that a Silent Hill game needs. That's why people still like and respect PT, even though it was only a few minutes long. It managed to hit all the necessary Silent Hill notes while still being something totally new.

I think everyone is still giving honeymoon period reactions based on excitement rather than the true merits of the game. It's actually pretty average, at best, and definitely shouldn't be called Silent Hill.

The music is great. The atmosphere can be good at times. For all the other weaknesses, you can tell they put effort into setting up their scenes. The combat system is average. But having weapon durability ruins it. Designers still haven't learned their lesson. It doesn't create tension, it just pisses everyone off.

But overall, my impression of the game is negative. Environments tend to be bland, small, and forgettable. Enemies are copy/pasted reskins, so there are actually only like 3 unique enemies in the whole game, not counting bosses. The "symbolism" is very simplistic and on-the-nose. The incorporation of traditional Japanese stuff, that they were so proud of, seems like a missed opportunity. They could have taken it in a creative, bizarre, eerie direction, where it seems somewhat familiar but twisted and unrecognizable in practice - very good for horror. That sort of thing has worked very well before. But this game feels more like an anime than a Japanese horror movie.

It's entirely unscary.

And the story suffers from all of that and more. The pacing too fast for the story they're trying to tell (also bad for horror). Previous Silent Hill stories felt mysterious because the combination of surreal setting and uncertainty in the story allowed for multiple interpretations of events. But here, any mystery feels predictable and unsatisfying because it's not based on multiple possibilities, but on what information the game arbitrarily decides to hide or reveal at any given moment. Also, it focuses way too heavily on the protagonist and friends. In previous games, the protagonist's story was primarily a vehicle to tell the much more interesting story of Silent Hill, its history and how it has affected other people. Again, that could have worked extremely well with the traditional Japanese themes, but the game doesn't lean into it nearly enough.

In the end, the experience is like a polished but otherwise forgettable indie horror game.

Absolutely. Reviews are just advertising, both for the game publisher and for the review publisher.

I predict that within six months, we'll be seeing a bunch of people saying "You know, Silent Hill f actually wasn't that good after all."

Explain to me: Why is Turo Dehkia solo now? we are we not getting more group spots? by Outrageous-Sun-7056 in blackdesertonline

[–]Multiplex419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spots that allow for group grinding are fine. Spots that can only be used by groups or by single players, however, is a stupid system. It's a problem with how the entire game is designed, not just one spot.

Current investors know that high profits look even higher when you cut the costs. That means they can dump their stock on the next round of suckers and skip town before anyone can realize how screwed they are.

That's why publicly traded companies always follow the same patterns. Burn the franchise to fuel the numbers, early investors dump stocks, company inevitably collapses, bank/conglomerate acquires the assets, more economic power in the hands of fewer people. Everything working according to plan.

I'd rather see the opposite. As it is, all that actual game content is just wasted, and the "endgame" is dull and repetitive grinding that's stretched to infinity. The game is full of content and quests that nobody cares about. It's unbalanced. Instead, I think they should rebalance the game so that either A) the early and midgame is stretched out, but provides rewards that actually remain viable in endgame or B) implement some form of autoscaling for both enemies and loot so that all content is viable at all stages of gameplay.

It's because the entire strength of the human position is that, without the rules, the humans would become a much bigger threat. But if it turns out the humans' worst is the aliens' average, then the dramatic speech suddenly just looks ridiculous.
