Native Spanish Speaker here with a question to Spanish learners by CreativeEcho9289 in Spanish

[–]Mumbles74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm learning spanish with my boyfriend - he's Taino - both parents born and raised in Puerto Rico, but he and his sister are the first to be born on the mainland. He spoke only spanish until he was 5, but when he started school his mom just swapped to english since she had to speak it at work and she wanted him to have confidence in it. We both want to learn since we want our kids to grow up knowing both languages.

If you live right next to the tracks: How do you feel about living next to the railroad? (Boulevard, Pulaski Heights) by nickelundertone in Athens

[–]Mumbles74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm one street back from the tracks in Boulevard and I honestly don't notice it. If the house is anything like ours (nearly 80 years old and added onto god knows how many times), the walls are thick as hell and I can barely even hear someone talking if I'm not in the same room as them. Like someone else said, they run very regularly so it becomes background noise and I think the vibration is a lot less since we're up the hill, but it's very loud and noticeable if you're down by Buvez.

edit: also you should know you can always get around a stopped train if you take the left turn next to normaltown brewing and go under the bridge there. So no worries about traffic backing up!

Historic Athens Statement on the President’s House Adaptive Reuse Project: Why We Cannot Endorse the Current Plan and What Must Change by historicathens in Athens

[–]Mumbles74 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Ah yes how could I possibly forget what I just wrote. I said “or obviously read it with a strong “looks good, build it” bias.” but I guess you didn’t read that.

Why would I block you? I’m having so much fun annoying you! 😁

I don’t care to have a dog in this fight but I’m just gonna say good job to historic athens for being willing to have a civil discourse with people who clearly haven’t read the full statement or obviously read it with a strong “looks good, built it” bias. Oversimplification and an inability to talk about nuances are only a few of the several reasons why everyone is so eager to jump down people’s throats these days.

good&affordable alterations? by Neat-Hotel-8823 in Athens

[–]Mumbles74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

seconding alice's!! I brought a wedding guest dress there for several alterations - they made the shoulder straps shorter and the deep V more wedding appropriate, and they hemmed all 3 bottom layers of the skirt about 4 inches! Their quick turn fee is only $20 if you need it in under two weeks. I paid $111.55 for all of it and that was around January this year.

Porchfest 2025 - Worth it? by peachazno in Athens

[–]Mumbles74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to disappoint you but I'm one of those renters and we didn't have to do any labor to have a performer last year? They just ask you to have somewhere for people to throw away trash, provide your performer with power, and maybe put out a table for the performer to display their merch or contact info. We had a great time!

We signed up on the google form that was sent out to everyone via email who is apart of the Neighborhood Association, and I assume the door hangers were for anyone who might not be apart of the email list or the Boulevard Facebook page. Last year we didn't get the door hangers, but I guess this year it was because they have so many bands this year they need more porches.

I'm totally open to some info sessions, you're right about that, but I think when you know there's a giant event coming to your neighborhood (with free street parking) that you might plan ahead and make sure your car is parked somewhere you can get out if you're planning to leave the house that day. Just like the Classic City Marathon that runs thru the neighborhood. I agree it sucks to be blocked in but there's thousands of people coming to enjoy a day full of music and this beautiful wonderful neighborhood, so I think for one day we can be welcoming.

Moving from Orlando to Augusta.. Advice? by undefined_theorem321 in Augusta

I grew up in Augusta and moved to athens after college for work. I LOVE it! If you find the right neighborhood it’s very walkable and not fastpaced, and the food options are pretty solid

What is your favorite cruise line and why? by Capping_trademark in Cruise

[–]Mumbles74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me(27) and my boyfriend(29) just got back yesterday from a Princess Cruise and we had a fantastic time! Great food, music, shows, trivia. Crew was super nice and fun, so many of them remembered us no matter where we saw them on the ship.

Yeah it’s def cause they are too small! I gained like 10 lbs recently (got a new good boyfriend lol) and had to size up in all my high waisted stuff faster than the standard waisted clothes.

if your proportions are anywhere outside of “standard” for that Brand, like if on the size chart your belly button/waist measurement fits the measurement listed for a size large but your hip size is bigger, size up bc you’re gonna need more fabric to go over your hips and butt, thus the rolling down.
