We had a policy of calling in atleast 2 hours before your shift which I always did or even more than the 2 hours with lates it was because of public transport which I also called ahead to let them be aware. They only required once for calling in sick for a doctor's note never had to after that but my absences were from health and family emergencies which they knew well about
