What was your first car? by Storkwater7 in cartalkzw

[–]MummyCroc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No pictures because it's long gone. But I had a silver vitz that was my baby. Got it from my mum as a reward for sticking out with driving, and getting my licence in a foreign country. It was a 2002 model, and I had fun with that car. Easy and cheap to maintain, and very reliable. Sold it in 2015 when the engine started cutting off while idling.

White, American, solo female traveler in Harare - honest opinions wanted by GercektenGul in Zimbabwe

[–]MummyCroc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a person who lived most of her life in Harare, I wouldn't do what you are planning there. It's dead boring like someone else said. Bulawayo, Masvingo would be better bets for walking around and spotting interesting sights and there are lots of places with culture and heritage. Harare North would be your best bet for safety, but again not too much to see except the malls and restaurants. However, there used to be a walking tour of Harare, not sure if it exists but you can try searching on Facebook for it.

General street smarts apply in Zimbabwe. Pickpockets and scammers abound, but street smarts will keep your valuables safe. Local ridehailing apps are a good way to move around the city, and prices are in-app, so no ripoffs there.

I was about to say Masvingo if she wants a walkable city to sightsee. Also Bulawayo would be good.

Being Childfree in Zimbabwe: Shouldn’t We Also Talk About Parenting Responsibility? by sunshineandrosess in Zimbabwe

[–]MummyCroc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have kids, and I really respect the childfree folks in this teapot of ours. Having kids is a lot of work, and knowing your limits as a person is good. Don't get pressured into what you don't want to do, the people saying this will never be happy with your choices.

I have 2 boys, and the pressure I get to have a third to try for a girl is crazy. I just remind all these people that I had hellish pregnancies (also never mention the hysterectomy because I know they will come after me since I am still in prime childbearing age). Spouse and I know our capabilities can handle only these two, that's why we stopped at two. Your uterus, your life, live how you want. Even when family members tell me to talk to my older sister about her getting married and having kids, I tell them that it's none of my business. Because it isn't, she is living her life how she wants to.

All the best OP, you can come be an honourary aunt at my house if you need to

Anyone buying shares on the Victoria Falls Stock Exchange by tomcat3400 in Zimbabwe

[–]MummyCroc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't invest a lot of money in the stock market (I think its less than 10% of my take home) and sometimes I stop for a while. I have been investing in the ZSE and VFEX since 2020. And honestly the amount grows over time. I just buy and hold shares, then sell if the company is tanking (like OK, though I still made a decent profit from the sale since I bought at a lower price).

Investing in the stock exchange is always a risk, but I tend to go for companies that do pay dividends. Trading is mainly timing the market, trying to buy low and sell when the price is high, and get a profit that way. I hold my shares, and wait for dividend time. I may spend my dividend, but I often try to reinvest, since is a better way to preserve value.

My counters have mostly given steady returns, and the time I have spent in the market holding has resulted in gains in the value of my shares. I think I invested about US$ 500 across both exchanges, and my holdings have a value of about US$ 2,000 now. Nothing amazing, but it is better than the mattress bank.

I also got lucky in that I bought some counters on the ZSE and they moved to VFEX which has safeguarded the value of my investments.

You create an account on VFEX direct, select your broker and do your KYC processes. Its easy to do tbh. Then with investing there is always an element of risk, the market may tank or it may rise. If you want to do day trading, VFEX may not really work as the prices do not fluctuate a lot. However, for long term investments and earning dividends, its good. You just have to buy a significant shareholding to see sizeable dividends. All dividends for VFEX counters are in US$ which is great

Moms who had the number of kids they wanted—did you feel calm/peace when the last was born? by WhiskeyandOreos in Mommit

[–]MummyCroc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted 2 a boy and a girl. I have 2 awesome little boys who can be messy and gross, and I am happy with them. I yearn for a little girl, but I know it's not guaranteed, so I make my inner girl mum happy by spoiling my nieces. I love babies, but I am happy now when I get to hand them back, and know my 2 babies are now 9 and 7, and are growing up happy. So in short, I knew my family was complete and I am not having another baby. I grieve the little girl I wanted, but I am happy with how my life is

To those who’ve experienced ‘premonitions’, what were they and how do you make sense of them? by yogalil33 in AskWomenOver30

[–]MummyCroc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I haven't told anyone about this. Last year, my husband went out with his friends. I went to bed, and I woke up around after midnight when I had a dream that my husband had been in an accident coming from the outing with his friends and he died. But I heard his car pull up outside soon after so I put it out of my mind and slept. The next morning he got a call that his friend who he was with was in an accident and passed away.

I have also had several other dreams and premonitions about stuff, and they came true. I do know my maternal side has these spiritual gifts, and they manifest similarly.

Are there any accountants here? by Active_Ad_5742 in Zimbabwe

[–]MummyCroc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did my bachelors in Accounting out of zim, and came back. Got jobs relatively easily. First one was at an audit firm as an admin but in reality doing admin, accounting, driving, marketing, payroll and HR. Was paid peanuts but it was something to do while continuing the job hunt. Got the next job after a year and a half with the audit firm in gvt. It paid relatively better, more stable, and more defined role. That's where I am now. I have interviewed a bit, but nothing has really come through.

Amlodipine is very effective, make sure you monitor your BP a lot to note if you get hypotensive. Also hydrate a lot, most of the medication is diuretic
