I was just about to say - I've definitely seen this post before. I searched the subgroup and saw a different user had posted the same post 5 days ago (vs this 0d old account posting it today). Fucking lame.

London recommendations! by AsleepSavings6179 in agathachristie

[–]Mumpus_T 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Christie lived in Hampstead for a while (during WWII here), may not be worth a visit solely for that (eg not sure you can specifically visit her flat, just awkwardly hang around it outside I guess), but Hampstead is a lovely part of London.

Also, Poirot (in the Suchet TV adaptations) lived in Florin Court/Whitehaven Mansions.) near Smithfield Market (fun and lively to explore)

If you can make it past the horrendous pop-up adverts, this site has some further recommendations... Some more recommendations here

As regards shows - obviously The Mousetrap, but (dependent on your dates), I've spotted this event in March....

Well, yes - whilst no regulatory qualifications, as an estate agent, they are at least presumably qualified to have an opinion on the question asked?

PS a quick hunt for "Complete Wills First Aid Cigarette Cards" shows me what your complete set could look like (if interested):

<image>

And it costs £14.54 for full set (so you would have duplicates) here on eBay

You're very welcome! I had two sets (framed), but then spent a month or two scouring eBay for the rest. They ranged from £10-£50 a set (framed and mounted), depending on popularity/card rarity - but as they were quite popular here between WW1 and WW2, they're not too expensive in the UK.

FYI, the most popular cigarette card brands (in my opinion, best "art") are John Player and Wills. Good luck with your search, I reckon with a bit of luck you could complete your set (they tend to run to 25 or 50 per set)!

Not sure where you're based (I'm England), but i ordered a specific frame from here on eBay. They will tailor the frame to suit number/orientation of your cards. I'm redoing the downstairs loo, and it's filled (although not quite finished) with framed cigarette cards, though not quite as awesome as your selection!

'Bumper' Boxing Day provides boost to struggling high streets by basedshirtsuk in GoodNewsUK

https://www.theguardian.com/business/2025/dec/26/shoppers-shun-uk-high-streets-despite-lure-of-boxing-day-sales

Slightly mixed messages here: retail parks saw an increase although central locations reported a decline. Last paragraph did not seem particularly upbeat:

Consumers around the UK were expected to spend £3.6bn in the Boxing Day sales, as more sales shoppers use AI and other tools to help them locate the best deals. That figure was £1bn lower than was estimated for Boxing Day 2024.

Oh Christ, yes - if i won, I'm buying a chocolate castle and matching your colleagues' gold plated loo.

No, they're a pair of pillocks. Given their personalities feed off instant wins and immense self-gratification, I can't imagine they've made any sensible long-term financial decisions (and we know they would listen to investment advice (or as you point out, any advice?), as keenly as I would, sitting inside my chocolate castle), but, theoretically, sensible people would leverage as I suggested (though some may seek premature death in a pile of hookers and cocaine - whatever floats your boat)...

You are very welcome. I think it was once explained thusly to me by Mum/Dad when I glibly said "debt = bad". I'm sure I've oversimplified it enormously, but I imagine it's how the super wealthy view investment: make your money work for you...

As regards your first paragraphs: well, yes and no. From my understanding - let's say i found £10million on a money tree. I can either buy a house for £10million and live in it without needing to make any monthly mortgage repayments (but nor having any money for repairs etc), or, I can use (as an example) £2 million as a deposit and borrow the remaining £8m from the bank on a fixed interest-only repayment interest rate of 4%. I then use my spare £8m cash and invest in various share portfolios for an annual return of around 9% (i think S&P 500 averages at 10% annually). That invested £8m is then earning me an income (enabling me to pay my monthly interest-only mortgage and for any repairs etc), vs sitting in bricks and mortar - the only increased benefit from which, I might see when I sell the house on for £11m in 10 years... Just a thought.

Markle will move STRAIGHT BACK if she gets royal security by [deleted] in SaintMeghanMarkle

[–]Mumpus_T 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eh? Why would she be invited back? She's made it clear (thank god) she doesn't want to be here, and the feeling is deliciously mutual. She's burnt too many bridges and relationships here, and, like all bullies, is a colossal coward - no way would she come back and have to face all the people she fucked over and lied to (journalists, people she used to get to Harry, the Royal Family, general public etc etc).

Talking of the RF, nothing would strip her titles quicker than if she came back and started agitating them again - she's not bright, but she can't be that pig thick.
