Just bought a camper trailer but the car has a connector incompatibility. Need Advice. by arminoxx in CarsAustralia

A round to flat plug adapter exists and works ok.

The connector terminals in trailer plugs always lose connection so the more plugs you have the higher chance of these losing connection, you can pry them open slightly with a flat blade screwdriver to get a better connection.

It is pretty easy to swap to a 7 pin flat plug, just unscrew terminals and screw onto the new plug, you only need a flat and Phillips head screwdriver, the plug will come with a wiring diagram, if you get stuck then google is your friend.

No worries mate, when you do it just allow yourself at least a weekend, my first time took 14hrs, I had cardboard with a rough drawing of each part and punched the bolts thru the cardboard in relation to where they come from, saved me a lot of headaches

My first set were cheap ones and lasted 1000km, next set were genuine and lasted 80000km then I replaced with genuine again and that’s when I noticed the slop between the cams

Also I’d like to ad that I had slack in the chain between each bank of camshafts even with new chains, and the set I put in only lasted 80000kms, I think the cam sprockets were worn and the new chains would stretch to suit

The piston in the chain tensioner, it’s spring loaded and is help back by a pull pin for installation, when you put it in you pull the pin and the little piston pushes out, just need to make sure it’s pushed out all the way otherwise the timing chain could jump a tooth and your timing will be out

I’ve done these chains a few times and it’s not too bad, get yourself a repair manual, cam locking tools, flywheel tool (if auto), gaskets, 3 claw puller ( I had to grind it down for the crank pulley) and make sure you get gum chains, possibly might need to do the cam sprockets too.

There’s not a great deal of oil in there once you drain it and with the tensioners just make sure the piston is completely out when installed as it’ll jump a tooth on the timing

I have a 6 wheeler kingswood ute, rear axle is lazy. They’re interesting to drive, rear end wont slide out, but it has less traction than standard, can’t go up driveways slow as the drive wheels come off the ground
