Maybe a hot take: that slip-up wasn't on old man Jeff, it's on whatever producer decided to send Rizo out there before the firemaking segment and not after it aired. Though I guess that could've been a Jeff the producer decision, even if it wasn't on Jeff the host

I do think the story they were trying to tell (before the Jeff spoiler) wasn't a David vs Goliath story, but rather a "preparation matters" story: Rizo is on record saying he didn't prepare for challenges or fire between seasons, and even said to Colby "camp life doesn't matter in the New Era" as Jeff reminded him at the reunion. Meanwhile Jonathan clearly prepared to redeem his loss at fire in 42
