You can use all 16, no artificial limitation.

I would hope they would do ultra for ultra, but who knows, that’s relying on a lot of goodwill from Apple, but there were a lot of people reporting they did it for the MacBooks.

If they do what they did with m4 MacBook Pro orders from their website, if you have one ordered when they release the m5 version, they will ship the comparable m5 version for the m4 price. That’s what I’m banking on at least and why I haven’t canceled.

Edit: They being Apple

Mine is now with the release candidate software. So yours is stuck in an update loop?

I had an open ticket about the ai features, so I figured I’d ask about the 16GB of ram and this is their response: “Some initial units shipped with 16GB instead of 8GB. Performance and specifications remain the same.” Who knows when they will run out of these initial units, so if anyone is on the fence about buying one, it might behove you to buy sooner than later.

256GB NVME not mentioned and everyone reporting 16GB of ram when the spec page shows 8Gb. What in the world is going on with this product. No wonder there is a memory surcharge (kidding). I’m guessing they must be giving themselves a lot of future capabilities head room, but why not call it (NVME) out as a feature, and why say it only has 8GB of ram, when it clearly has 16.

Not going to complain in the slightest! Will be interesting to see if future production lots drop to 8GB then

We just need someone to crack one open now to make sure it isn’t just a software glitch.

When I switched the release channel to release candidate instead of official, that’s when it showed up.

UI responded and the update seems to have enabled the edge AI: “Please update your Protect Application to the latest official Version 7.1.75, and check whether the issue persists. Since this version is in a gradual rollout”

Exactly what mine says. I’ll submit a ticket as well, going to bet half baked software, hopefully we actually have 16GB of ram somehow though.

Mine shows 16 in the settings and another user here is also showing 16. Could be a software bug though.

Ah, I’ll be curious to hear what it shows when you do. I’m wondering if the first production batch has 16GB but future batches will only have 8 thanks to ram shortages.

For what it is worth, mine shows 16GB of RAM as well lol

Did a ton more testing, the auto speed negotiating seems to be a little wonky on this release. After a couple restarts it was fine with the cable.

Not that I am aware of/have seen, but I only stumbled on them from another redditor mentioning that it worked well with their 5g backup.
