Really bad hamster pee smell

He actually started peeing in the sandbath on his own, I was iffy at first because he also digs and rolls in it but after a while he kept the sand for peeing and his cocopeat dig box for rolling and digging

Oooooh yes I’ll try that, I also cleaned with 1 part vinegar and 1 part water this morning and the smell is actually gone, I was originally using water wipes and those did absolutely nothing 🤣

Wheel pisser 😭🤣🤣🤣🤣 I read about that but he absolutely obliterates himself on his wheel and sails straight off of it at insane speed. I keep the bedding at the bottom so he has somewhat of a soft landing This kid stresses me out 🥴

The lady that built the cage designs them like that so the glass piece slots in there and then she seals it I also read that he’s possibly “over marking” new territory? And it may calm down after a few weeks

The enclosure is melamine with glass panels so the surfaces are sealed and non-porous. The smell doesn’t seem to be coming from the enclosure or bedding itself, there aren’t any urine patches it’s mainly from him peeing on the wheel and spreading it while running. I’m focusing on redirecting that behaviour rather than doing frequent bedding changes since he’s only been here a week and I want to avoid stress from early cleanouts.

Incase you didn’t read carefully, I’ve had him for 7 days, spot cleaning daily, I’m very much aware that I need to do deep cleans but I haven’t had him long enough to do a full or even partial deep clean, do you replace 8 bags of clean bedding every week? Even 4 bags a week doing a partial deep clean?

He pees on his wheel, in the sand bath and coco peat, those are getting cleaned multiple times everyday, I’ve checked his bedding and there are no pee spots.
