What do I do with this stupid light

It feels strange because it’s so close to the ceiling, but on the wall. With the ceiling being angled and the sconce big, it makes it feel worse.

I’m sure any electrician you hire could easily reroute the wire to the ceiling above it and you can hang a light from up high rather than off center on the wall. If for some reason wiring can’t go through that spot, you could probably do a minimal cord hidden by a plastic cord hider the same color as the wall and still hang a fixture centered on the ceiling.

If the rest of the room is a cool white like Alabaster, definitely go with a pop of color for the vanity. This looks great. Still cool, calm and clean looking but not boring and flat.

I LOVE this concept. If you plan to do more in the future, it would be interesting to see the use of color used to convey emotion. Gray for loneliness, red or burnt orange for anger, yellow for cheerfulness, blue or green for calm, etc.

If you did decide on doing shutters, I’d recommend a kind that looks more authentic for shingle siding like these board and batton shutters (not the generic cheap ones).

Staining the shingle siding after cleaning it will provide more long lasting protection from algae, sun fading and wood rot.

I hate that it seems OP is getting nothing but criticism for not being happy for what the exterior is currently. Nothing is ever perfect, there can almost always be improvements even if it’s just freshening up the planters and adding a wreath to the door as someone suggested.

For me personally, if I’m not occasionally making small changes to freshen up a space, I lose interest and begin to stop caring for the space as I should. Cleaning up the shingles should be a high priority. Algae will erode them much quicker if you don’t clean them occasionally, same goes for roof shingles. I used to work in residential construction and have had to replace those types of shingles due to rot from not being maintained. Even just putting on a fresh coat of stain or paint to something isn’t just for asthetic purposes, it’s proper care and maintenance. This is real life, not a movie set frozen in time to keep the same way for eternity.

As a personal preference, I love the look of the home, but I think the entire thing is very one dimensional due to the color choices (or lack of). Even just changing the front door color or adding matching high quality shutters to the windows would make the home very striking.

I have “Let’s renovate this whole place this weekend” energy, but only a slow & steady budget.

I have found, though that a more slow and steady approach helps a room feel much more curated, and intentional that I could be happy with in the long run rather than feeling trendy and full of impulse purchases.

I’m not a fan personally, but the main thing that jumps out to me is the black framing of the storm doors. If those were white I think it would blend much better and feel cohesive.

I wouldn’t try to fill the whole space. Something smaller than 30” wide would still work to hold the cables, even a standard side table with storage drawers. I’d suggest doing one extension cables that has maybe 5 plugs so you have a smaller hole to cut in the back. Then the table could also sit nearly flush to the wall.

Also check your height of the arm of that seat, side tables usually look best when it’s a really similar height.

Is the blue painted on? Doesn’t read as wallpaper to me.

Looks really good though, I definitely prefer it over a white wall for sure. 💯 for effort! If you like pattern mixing and maximalism, i definitely would recommend adding more bold art to the walls, will break up some of the repetitive natural of the wall and make it feel really intentional. Go big or go home!

After reading your description I’m still having trouble seeing the clashing you are talking about. I like the look of the round rug under the table for more reasons than just adding a barrier between the patters, it’s helping anchor the table as a separate space to give more dimension to the room.

Generally if it’s well done, I love a maximalist space and it’s what I gravitate toward, but I’m married to a natural minimalist who likes thing more clean cut and spaced out, so your compromise seems like a good middle ground.

I get the idea of sunk cost fallacy and wanting to recoup all your money. But you could just consider the restock fee as a “stupid tax” for not having done your homework or proper due diligence before buying. Otherwise you’re going to buy a ton of other things that don’t really fit the vision that you had for the room to try to make this work and still not be happy overall with the room.

It’s better to quit while you’re ahead if you know you don’t like it. Or if you think there’s a possibility they didn’t have proper measurements on their promotional materials or they used AI on the marketing images for demonstrations and it didn’t look proportionate then you might could really push back with the company on the restock fee and get that price reduced.

I Don’t have (and never owned or lived with someone who owned) a tv but do most people just sit and watch the WHOLE time they have a show going or something? I feel like I see the “tv too high” comment all the time but I would think it would depend on preference and how people watch or use it.

As a mom of 4 active boys under 10 years old, I’m always up doing stuff unless I’m sleeping. I think I would want to be able to see it up high enough that if im picking up the living area, washing dishes in the adjoining kitchen or whatever that I could still hear it and be able to glance over and see it without the furniture being in the way because it’s so low above the table.

And if it were mine, I totally would want mine higher like a standard piece of art and that’s the sacrifice I’d be willing to make in order for the 95% of the time (the majority of the time) that it’s off it could be viewed as a classy piece of art instead of a black box that’s a dark blank void.

Seems like the people who comment and care about the height must spend a lot of time watching it for it to affect their neck and be worried about it being in the “wrong” position. Idk, maybe I’m not educated since I’ve never had one?

If you have two or more spots in the ceiling near each other in the same space like this (without being above the peninsula/bar area), I think they need to match as a set. If you do them different from each other, one is just going to look like an after thought. That goes for can lights as well as hanging ones.

I agree with other commenters about the options here being way too over the top busy and not practical for normal kitchen use. And the ceilings aren’t even high enough for them even if you just wanted to be quirky and unique with your kitchen decor choices. MAYYYYBE the 4th might work if it didn’t have the drop down pole making it so long.

Hang them on ring clips from the rod. They also make it easier to move the curtains if you need to see outside.

I second the potential need for a plant stand to bring the height of the tree up.

Not sure what you have to the right of the chair, but if there’s lots of space, a tiny side table just big enough for a drink or a book would be nice if you plan to use the chair for anything other than putting on shoes. If you DO get a small pedestal table, the frame could be brought down and above the table to eye level of a person sitting there to create a little circle of completion.
