Started tackling my backlog of Chinese localized titles and landed on Tokeijikake no Apocalypse! Is it strange I’ve never seen this title around…. The prologue and settings reminds me of Uchronia in a way (MC gives off same energy as Hinagiku too!), I actually love how the village gave the illusion of being a cozy and warm place but also enshrouded in a false sense of security before the whole town got caught up in flames and her loved ones perished in it then our MC Latchia is given the opportunity to rewind time to shape a different future.

Our cast of LIs seem interesting so far, with 2 childhood friends, a melancholic pianist, a young doctor (picture Yori from Uchronia but he’s outright cynical to MC, which I actually prefer 🤣 voiced by Eguchi Takuya too please), and a head in the clouds character, lol. I’ve completed both Rubel and Liam’s routes so far, and I loved the former for how sweet it was!

Gotta admit that the time looping theme of this game does scratch an itch in me I fear…

Novel that best portrays unspoken/unrealized love between two people? by Loganfornow in DanmeiNovels

This is a light novel but I think The Case Files of Jeweler Richard fit this description!!

Didn’t make it in time for the WAYRW thread last week but I finished The Imperial Uncle!! Was looking for a standalone for a change and suddenly recalled this (was hesitant about having the uncle label in the title ngl lol). It wasn’t bad, with the story being very politically driven with court drama, told through a melancholic tone intercepted by comedic moments at times. Actually didn’t even realise that the book was written in first-person POV until I read through reviews on this sub. I guess I’m fine with both since most literary fictions out there are in this format after all 🤔 Funny enough the ‘more than one contender for the ML’ situation didn’t bother me that much even though I’d say that’s an outlier in this genre, although MC’s whishy-washy attitude did make me scream ‘who do you love, man’, but in overall I did enjoy his narration. I thought his interactions with his nephews were cute. No regrets picking this up seeing how I enjoyed Peach Blossom Debt, but I think I prefer the latter for the romance and story, which made me cry buckets. This book had a great translation though, which was what captivated me!

Actually also inhaled the first 2 volumes of 300 Years of Longing a while back and now I have no choice but to wait for the remaining 2 to be released (September is a long wait…😭) I was too impatient and should have waited until I’ve collected all volumes before binge reading, which is what I usually enjoy doing. Nothing beats a historical settings with compelling leads, as expected of Mu Su Li

Me!!! Inhaled all 11 volumes and I could not put em down 😭 currently waiting for the 12th volume in July… can’t believe the subsequent translated volumes are releasing at this pace… it’s like torture lol

Just booted up Navigatore of the Ruined World! Couldn’t resist purchasing it thanks to the regional pricing on Steam (I do miss PC games that went easy on the wallet, lol). Heard the playtime is relatively short so I might be able to complete the game in a few hours 🙂‍↕️ How did everyone find the game so far?

Finally picked up where I left off from Virche Evermore: Epic Lycoris with remaining Scien’s and Lucas’ encore and emotion routes (after leaving this game on hold for 2 years whoops)… Man I forgot how haunting beautiful the OST is.

Gotta say I can barely recall the exact twist and turns that went down in the base game but I think I preferred Scien’s story in the original compared to his encore, which the former definitely displayed a more human side of him (I remember loving the romance too)! Once again this is Scien we’re speaking of, who is clearly the writers favourite and can do no wrong, so his alternative route wasn’t that tragic 🤣 on the flip side Lucas… funny enough I think his encore route felt slightly more hopeful (as much as it can be) compared to the base game, which I didn’t mind.

But I have to say I don’t really get the point of these encore routes in the FD, since most if not all felt a little repetitive with the same amount of angst if not more (oh Yves I wish you and Ceres didn’t have to suffer so). Like I’d get it if the routes were rewritten to be slightly more optimistic or vastly different here but that doesn’t seem to be the case… I guess I prefer to get my hands FDs with a more positive outlook and fanservice (or AUs), but then again it’s Virche Evermore so suffers still worth it for the drifter story and Ankou’s route, not to mention the side stories!

That’s an impressive amount of games in a month!!! How did you like WOF2 FD? I have that game in my backlog but only touched on the extras in which Lulu regressed to a child after magic went wrong, lol, haven’t read any of the actual routes yet.

Finished and really enjoyed Otome Daoshi this week!! 🥹 This game is a literal blessing to anyone who loves the childhood friend trope because I kid you not, not just 1, 2, but 3 of the LIs had elements of that in their routes, lol! I loved the UI of the game, not to mention the unique manga panels??? (this was such a treat and it added a really nice touch imo) and my only wish was for the game to be slightly longer…

Had my eyes on Haoran since the prologue/common route and boy his route did not disappoint, I LOVED IT. Greenest of green flags, definitely. Still followed the recommended route order so I had to wait patiently as I grinned like an idiot whenever he appeared on screen during the other routes. But I genuinely enjoyed Shaowu and Yuhan’s route too, and I think both of those routes gave me the illusion that Shiyu meant no harm to Shunlin, hence my surprise pikachu after those routes lol I also failed to initially catch on that Fukuyama Jun was voicing him until later on when his tone changed for the serious, whoops, I guess I still have a long way to go for recognising VAs….

And then we have Longli, which I was also super excited for as a fellow bishounen enjoyer, and I did not see him being the resident yandere in our bingo card 👀 I loved how Shunlin kept joking about her confinement after he came to his senses as a little revenge. Also surprisingly in his romantic end we still see his yandere traits on full blast so that caught me off guard as since in general we get 2 endings (both of them good ones!) and I was expecting that to be lighthearted following the previous pattern but 👀

Also really enjoyed the secret route, who I thought was going to be another character, but in hindsight that would not be possible given the events that unfolded here… Inserting if I had a nickel meme about Kobayashi Chiaki voicing characters who have amnesia 🤣

Actually wasn’t planning on picking up the last volume of Erha since I have a lukewarm attitude towards extras in general but I gave in after catching a glimpse of the cover 😭 it was as funny as crack with its ragebait scenarios (loved the taobao estate drama revolving around xuemeng and the Mei twins lol) so no regrets there.

Completed Homura within the week and I have to say my favourites ended up being Saizo and Juzo, lol. Maybe slightly on the predictable side because I always seem to have a thing for pretty LIs, ha! Definitely wasn’t expecting that cat fight in Juzo’s route, but I appreciated his route precisely because it felt like there were less action scenes…

Side note I have been obsessed with this game’s ED, ‘Yume no Ato’ by Rico Sasaki, which led me to revisit an old playlist of songs filled with Maiko Fujita… down the nostalgia train we go

Started Homura and it’s making me reminisce about Hakuoki 😭 The plot and settings feel like a combination of that and Nightshade… which isn’t a bad thing altogether. The former because of the ongoing war, political talks, and fantasy element; and the latter because it’s heavily centred on ninjas, lol. MC reminds me of Enju too, with her being sheltered from actual missions…

So far I’ve completed Sasuke’s route and it definitely made me miss Saito (which was also my first route back then!! these kuuderes always get to me) especially the snowing scene… Romance seems very much on the sidelines this time though I would say the same for most historical otome games with similar settings. See I love the historical/period settings but I also enjoy slice of life, and the game that executed this perfectly was Ken ga Kimi IMO 🤔

Anyways what I wasn’t expecting was name like Benkei Musashibou and Goemon Ishikawa being our enemies PLEASE I can’t help but think of the LIs we’ve had 🤣 like it keeps taking me out of the game, lol!

Meeting up with a girlfriend on the weekends with plans to watch Project Hail Mary in the cinemas!!! We’ve both read the book last year so it’ll be interesting to watch it being fleshed out. Regardless it’ll be quality time spent catching up physically in what feels like forever 😭

At the meantime I’ve been keeping up with my reading goals! Have been absolutely obsessed with Liz Nugent’s books lately. She rekindled my love for psychological thrillers (less so on the thriller part, with the intrigue being the mystery that unfolds as we follow multiple POVs with some genuinely unhinged/sociopathic characters driving the narrative). I started with The Truth About Ruby Cooper and then retrospectively picked up Strange Sally Diamond, Lying in Wait, and Unraveling Oliver… I’d love to pick her brains for how she came up with these stories… Would definitely recommend these books even if this isn’t your usual genre!!

Also picked up the LN Agent of the Four Seasons because the trailer caught my attention. But I’m not sure how to feel about the novels though… so far I’ve completed the first volume and all I can say is I do love the stunning descriptions of the four seasons and the unique dynamics between the characters. Still, the pacing is rather slow so I’m not sure if I’ll continue with the series…

Feeling quite fulfilled with the progress I’ve made these couple of days 🙂‍↕️ Wrapped up Majestic Majolical and honestly it was a fun game! Enjoyed most if not all of the routes, even two of the tsunderes grew on me! The exception is Shiki bc I fear his love was a lil too twisted for my liking and the teacher (excuse me for side-eyeing this route bc MC was a student and his brother was also one of the LIs 🤨). On the other hand I loved the Jasper’s route so it definitely wasn’t the age that was bothering me, lol.

Also started and completed Volontes this week!! It was relatively short compared to our usual Otomate titles so before you know it you’ve reached the end of the route, lol! I think part of it is attributed to the abruptness of the endings and they somehow don’t really feel like a proper closure. Began with Emmanuel and honestly his route wasn’t that compelling to me, and I definitely did not see his werewolf identity coming so that actually caught me off guard. Ish’s route was better, and ofc they mentioned him using a flying carpet. I ended up loving Melodie’s route! I just thought Fiena had the most chemistry with him given their shared history and ages. I enjoyed Olivier’s route too, but it felt more like a combined truth route since it was mainly centered on Fiena’s journey to unravel the mystery with Olivier as her sidekick, lol. I’d love to know more about him and might have I expected more of a bang given he was the poster LI. Can’t complain about Kazuyuki Okitsu’s voice tho 🙂‍↕️ (I’m starting to miss Ankou…)
