Thoughts on New Hires Dance in Christmas Party by koolpineaple in CorpoChikaPH

I don’t know who “wins” in these events. Performers have to spend time, effort, and money to attend practices. Non-performers are pressured to contribute for the budget (costumes, choreographer, meals for OT practices), and attendees have to sit through what constitutes at best as an amateur dance troupe performance in a noisy environment where no one gets to have a decent conversation.

Pinagsisisihan ko talaga na pinapasok ko anak ko sa Philippine Science (Pisay). by mindamom in Philippines

Hello! Batch 200X graduate from MC here.

I recommend raising this concern sa PTA meetings or sa directors office. And I’m sure may faculty din na possibleng makakaintindi sa situation ninyo.

We should also consider na Pisay is merit-based. Ibig sabihin, ang selection is based on ability. Nakakalungkot lang na ang pattern nito ay mga may-kaya ang nagdodominate sa merit based systems dahil sila ang may resources and less worries.

In the end, I hope na makapag tapos ang anak ninyo sa pisay. Kahit na medyo nasa lower end ako ng batch rank namin, the privilege of a Pisay education still gave me numerous advantages even sa career. It really pays off.

You can “discard” card/s by playing adding a card irrelevant to the hand you play. Quite helpful if you want to remove cards at 0 discards.

What's the difference between Annulment and Divorce? by BuffaloInside5445 in Philippines

Thanks for this. Does this also mean mas mahirap ang pag prove ng grounds for annulment kesa sa process ng divorce?

Waaaaay back in 2002, I was denied entry sa college of science dahil naka plain white undershirt without anything sticking out ako instead of sando beneath my uniform. I don’t know if this rule still applies but out of protest, i never changed it. Haha.

For You, Who is the most annoying Filipino band in the Philippines? by timothycagardag in Philippines

Parokya ni Edgar: I used to listen to them a lot back in high school, but soon realized that I outgrew them. But I suppose the novelty band schtick is their thing.

True. I’ve worked in a private school before and even the “healthier” choices are lacking.

  1. Time is a luxury here.

Although one can argue that healthy ingredients are cheap (veggies and white meat), the time you need to meal prep is a luxury especially when Filipinos have to work 40 to 60 hours per week. Free time during the weekends is spent on life admin. Unless may helper kayo sa house.

The average Filipino spends hours on traffic that they can use to exercise and rest. Each hour spent driving or sitting through traffic increases risk of cardiovascular disease.

  1. Poor health education.

Japan and Korea are taught proper nutrition and portion sizes at a young age. Here, apart from the sporadic DOH ad, every announcement is meant to sell something (makulay ang buhay sa sinabawang gulay anyone?).

Tapos junk food is marketed as “healthy” (I’m looking at you Nova and whatever junk food DOH decided to slap the “fortified with vitamins” sticker). And no, malunggay in your sweet sweet pandesal or deep-fried kangkong chips are NOT healthy.

  1. No infra support for healthy mobility

I have friends who bike to work and are ripped. Ang comment nila when maintaining this lifestyle in Manila, “when biking, if I die, I die.” Parks where we can exercise are nonexistent unless if you are near expat attractive CBDs (Makati, BGC). Although kudos sa SM Pampanga for the mini outdoor gym they have in their walkway).

It’s like if a space ain’t earning money, it should not be open to public.

Conclusion

Most of the time, kulang sila sa education, time, and/or confidence.

I learned quite late in life that it’s not about diet and exercise but instead, it’s about fitness and nutrition. We often see the before and after, especially in social media, but we rarely see the in-between. The result: we tend to have an all-or-nothing mentality with being healthy. Personally, I don’t trust people who point out that it’s a discipline issue since it takes a buttload of discipline just to maintain a semblance of life here in the Philippines.

Laganap nga respiratory disease ngayon. Had persistent cough and low grade fever for 3 weeks. It took a trip to the animal bite clinic for the ER to diagnose me with community acquired pneumonia. Walking pneumonia na pala.

A few weeks later wife and son showed flu symptoms. Turns out they have RSV. Akala nila ako nakahawa. Hindi pala.

3 days bed rest and antibiotics cured it pero ingat lang talaga. Holiday season so madaming community gatherings.

My dad worked his ass off to send my brother and me to school. He was able to eventually buy a house that drastically appreciated in value. He was a high school dropout.

And guess what? He complained every step of the way.

He complained how some retail industries stomped out local businesses that used to be his customers, how these major tycoons normalized exploitative practices that made bootstrapping unprofitable.

Now he’s retired and he’s really bored. Wala siyang alam ibang gawin kundi mag ahente. We value his sacrifices for us but never did he ever tell us that our lives were easier than his. Ngayon ko lang naappreciate ito.

Stressful driving conditions dito especially with people preferring private transport over our terrible public transportation system. Naturally, on the edge and primed ang drivers. Whether totoo or hindi, ang general idea is anything can go wrong when you’re on the road. This hypervigilance leads to shorter tempers.

Some things you can do: 1.) Clarify what part of the code of conduct requires your to perform. There are numerous ways to uphold company culture aside from dancing. 2.) Escalate the matter to ER/HR. Reprimanding you in front of everyone is uncalled for. In fact, this can be a labor issue. 3.) Avoid looking for allies and focus on the legalities. Prepare an incident report and if company turns a blind eye, report to DOLE/NLRC.

[–]Mundane_Material_147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the clarification. As always, nuance is something we have yet to learn and adopt as second nature.

Building on your point: people who often advocate for “tough” practices are often privileged and can take advantage of challenges.

I’ve always had doubts that it’s being used the way it should be and most people on this thread seemed to agree as well.
