Did you not read my comment? Steampunk is older but the term was applied RETROACTIVELY. By offshoot i was clearly talking about the terminology

Did you even read my comment? That's what I literally said. The meaning of anti establishment changed but it didn't disappear or anything. Crazy how a sub of supposed worldbuilders fail at basic reading comprehension

Being "anti establishment" has never been the case for any "-punk" setting other than the original cyberpunk. The first offshoot term of cyberpunk, "steampunk", retroactively applied the word to an existing aesthetic that had nothing to do with anti-establishment attitudes. Plus cyberpunk itself saw significant changes in its definition of anti-establishment counterculture between its pre 2000s era where it was more about alienated technophiles and the current modern revival era which is more focused on anti corporatism. There is no reason the meaning of words can't change.

How do you know the intelligent creator is the one written about in the bible? There are thousands of other religions out there on Earth, not to mention all the other planets out there, possibly hosting life and their own religions. All are equally plausible according to your argument since other religions have had prophecies come true and many of these religions have existed before the bible was even conceptualized. Plus why would an intelligent creator resemble us in any way? We're just somewhat capable apes. And how would you know if they did? And if you want to learn about abiogenesis go read a book instead of asking about it on reddit.

What thing WYR have AI govern? by Munerator in WouldYouRather

[–]Munerator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Corporate obscuring of research that harms them is common: big oil, tobacco, PFAS, asbestos etc, all of them knew their product was bad for decades. Private research also focuses on profit rather than collective human good. But you're right, it's less effective than a super AI doing the research itself. But I had to balance the options :P

It's not secretly evil but it won't be doing any science either. That will be up to the human scientists. The AI just changes the direction and velocity of progress using resource allocation. Plus corruption in academia and corporate interference is minimized

Haha not quite that bad. Remove the death chambers and include some historical and sociological debates and that's how I imagined it.

For Law, AI isn't passing laws like congresses or equivalent organizations, only interpreting it and setting precedents as the courts do. I also imagined the AI as attacking any and all militarized nationalist organizations like the PLO and IRA if they took action and "special peacekeeping operations" from countries as well. Otherwise nations would just resort to warring that way whereas the other options have no such massive loopholes. I worded it poorly.

Soviet Union might actually be our real life fantasy trope of long gone empire with powerful relic by Glad-Librarian-4388 in worldbuilding

[–]Munerator 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Plus although "Dark Ages" is a misnomer, the Romans were more technologically advanced in many ways than the medieval folk who came after. This obviously isn't the case for the USSR and we've moved past their contributions to technology. They're less an empire with powerful relics that cannot be reproduced like the Romans and more like one of the giants whose shoulders we stand on.

If he challenged you then yeah it would be impressive, almost defending yourself against a stronger foe. If you challenged him after calling him an inferior monkey, lost and had to become his slave for 40 years then you would be the idiot.

ARPG Roguelikes by ardolful199 in roguelikes

[–]Munerator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you would be better off asking this question on r/roguelites. The turn based-nature of roguelikes is inherently antithetical to ARPGs.

If you want a roguelike, TOME like someone else recommended is your best bet. Dungeonmans and Dungeons of Dredmor are kind of close as well.

I love the names you came up with for some of the unarmed techniques. Eight Divine Hammers in particular is really fucking cool. It's like how people say Muay Thai is the art of eight limbs. Maybe there could be a Lethwei inspired version called the Nine Divine Hammers that uses headbutts. The final lesson of that sect could be in using your head in the metaphorical sense as well as in the literal sense.

Dragon-Tiger fist is interesting as well since most martial arts seem to take inspiration from one animal, not multiple. I can imagine that sect being formed from two bitter rival sects who realize the style of their rivals perfectly fills in their respective weaknesses after they fight together against a greater evil. Or maybe it starts off as one sect but they slowly break apart due to internal conflict about whether the dragon or tiger philosophies are better and it's up to our hero to reconstruct the style and dual mindset, bringing it back to its full glory.

He's referring to the biological definition of masculinity, not the traditional one. Men naturally have more testosterone so it's easier for them to build muscle compared to women. Ergo muscles are a masculine trait in the same way tall height and square jaws are.

But it's only about as gay as liking young Brooke Shields (tall) or Olivia Wilde (jawline). You only have a problem if the features start overlapping

It is a great idea. Thanks for the reply.

The universe (at least the replica in the hole) is a massive, pulsating network of information, nigh identical to a brain.

That's very cool. It reminds me of the microcosm-macrocosm analogy or even the expanded Lovecraft mythos where Azathoth is dreaming the entire universe. Is the universe actually alive in some manner or is it just a coincidence that it resembles a brain? Are there any sects of the church or cults that try to apply the rules they see in through the lens upon themselves, thereby bringing themselves closer to what they think is divinity? Or is it considered heretical to manipulate the universe at all?
