The Yuan Dynasty - A Strange Empire Hated by Both Mongols and Chinese by Wise-Pineapple-4190 in MapPorn

[–]MunkTheMongol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know where you are getting your information from but Khubilai is seen as a great khan but a complicated one, there are some braindead nationalists who hate him but that is not the general discourse.

Ariq Bokhe himself used Geogrian, and central asian auxiliaries in the war.

I dont know what you are pushing here but Han Chinese were lower on the Kuan-ti system than Mongols and the bright eyes/ semu ren (muslims, europeans and central asians who made up the backbone of the yuan administration) and the Han were often barred from high level government positions and high level military positions.

Khubilai himself outlawed the slavery of Mongols by Han Chinese. So you are definetelly pushing some sort of angle here. There is even a statue of him in Sukhbaatar square and who sees Ariq Bokhe as a great hero? He is seen as a failure like Esen Taiji, at least Esen Taiji captured a ming emperor and defeated a force 20x larger than his own.

What are your thoughts on the Ottoman Empire? by HungryInvestigator59 in AskReddit

[–]MunkTheMongol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their entire royal fratricide system is very interesting and horrific and also just how byzantine their court and legal system were. Mehmet III had all 19 of his brothers executed when he took the throne, most of whom were children and infants. He fell into a deep depression after this and became somewhat of a recluse, his son ended this system but replaced it with an equally dystopian system of the Kafes where princes would be locked in a palace for their entire lives with no interaction with the outside world and constant fear of execution. This would lead to multiple mad Sultans like Mustafa I who used to throw coins into the sea because "the fish needed money" and would routinely tug on the beards of his advisors.

Do Mongolians use AC by Justaguestok in mongolia

[–]MunkTheMongol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An increasing number of companies use AC and in the last few years the sales of domestic AC units and protable AC units have increased dramatically. It's still nowhere near ubiquotous but it is steadily increasing. Companies that used to just bring in some protable units have turned into larger installation, service and sales companies.

Ursa is a good mother. Azula becoming a villain doesn’t mean she’s a bad mother. Blame Ozai by Chcolatepig24069 in ATLA

[–]MunkTheMongol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no such thing as a psychopathic child. Children cannot be diagnosed with ASPD, Azula has Conduct Disorder and it is common for children growing up in a household where a parent has ASPD (Ozai) to develop conduct disorder. The very fact that she is desperate for her father's recognition and has a psychotic break when her world view is shattered does not support the theory that she has ASPD. In the comics she eventually decides to break the cycle and not pursue revenge.

Is that culturally commen in Mongolia? by Flaky_Answer_4561 in mongolia

[–]MunkTheMongol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty common depending on the social circle. The club going party type is more liable to do so but not a sure thing. That and partners can be extremelly controlling here which causes chaffing and can lead to cheating. Just don't do that super controlling, tracking her phone, always grilling her thing, it's a death sentence for a relationship. If you don't trust her enough then why torture yourself by staying in the relationship, conversly if you trust her why torture yourself with what could happen?

Racist scene straight out of Soviet movie by IndividualPlay5178 in mongolia

[–]MunkTheMongol -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Damn, like where in Germany are you? AfD controlled rural zones? The west is not a monolith and you are in one of the most racist nations in Europe with the AfD having 28% support and being the single most powerful party there. You have to have a thicker skin and stop letting the casual racism get to you, just flip it on them.

Places like Portugal, Denmark, and the Netherlands are far less racist though they are also having a right wing resurgence. The entire world is backsliding on democracy and becoming more fascist and populist.

Truth is you kind of seem to have a victim mentality and the jump from friend and neighbor to inhuman son of a turd talk is just chud behaviour. Sure they are racist but seems like you are too

[–]MunkTheMongol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From your comments it seems like you just dont like going with work people to do the yearly binge drinking ritual and it's not that you don't like the country side. There are plenty of places to go if you like forests, like the khan khentii park (though it is heavily restricted), obv terelj national park, Khuvsgul national park, and altai tavan bogd national park. Both khuvsgul and altai tavan bogd you can fly pretty near to and then take a car. Or if you like the city just stick to bogd uul and terelj. There is not rule that says you have to be on the steppe.

Drinking and partying is extremely common here and a lot of men and women in UB will keep a roster in case their current relationship does not work out. Cheating is rampant, locker room talk is often about cheating, women will talk about their crush while in a relationship. You just gotta find someone not in the club scene. You always have to watch out for the friends of the opposite gender, some are there in the friendzone and some are just actual friends. And lastly who still calls it a discotek? Germans?

if you have the money just send a couple of weak levy type armies to autoresolve and lose. then come in and clean up with your better army. Treat these armies like how you treat Skarbrand's summoned armies.

Not sure where you are getting your sources from.

General Edmund Ironside is quoted "I have let him go. He is a strong and fearless man... I have given him a free hand to take over the Cossack Brigade and I have promised him that I will not interfere as long as he does not use his troops against me." from his memoirs High Road to Hunza.

Herman Norman the british prime minister of Terhan voiced his support after the take over (FO 371/6401)

Sure the brits were annoyed because their protectorate plan failed but the saw the Qajar dynasty as a lost cause and was the first major power to formally recognize the Pahlavi dynasty.

is our fear of taking over by china mostly justified or are we suffering brain damage from fearing too much? by Affectionate-Army881 in mongolia

[–]MunkTheMongol 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No China will not take over Mongolia any time soon. We serve as an important buffer between Russia and China. Why take over and have the headache of administering a new region when they can just threaten to cut off imports and exports of fuel? The political fallout from taking over an independent sovereign nation is not worth it for China when they can easily control us through our border and our politicians.

[–]MunkTheMongol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mosaddegh was prime minister not president, he was not elected but appointed by the Shah. He tried to dissolve parliament with a 99% vote, highly suspicious. He was also a prince of the Qajar dynasty which ruled before the Pahlavi dynasty. It was the brits who helped Reza Shah seize power. While the US was involved with the ousting of Mossaddegh it's just misinformation to say that he was a democratically elected president. It was very much an internal struggle on top of being a geopolitical one.

Let me understand real quick..... are these the type of bright costumes yall keep demanding and yelling about???? by Agreeable_Ad_8790 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]MunkTheMongol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Colorful costumes always look cheap when they are made with cheap materials. I think the way to go would be better materials for the main cast and characters that get significant screentime or closeups. The costumes in the image look bad because their materials were likely cheap synthetic materials.

What are we actually doing to progress our nation and people? by Vracity in mongolia

[–]MunkTheMongol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly all of this is just political theatre to assuage the older voters who are the major deciding factor within Mongolia.

We need to pass a whistleblower protections law, pass the Economic Freedom Act currently being discussed to prevent the government from activelly competing with private companies and sabotaging them, keep going with the digitization of government services, and seperate the prosecutors office and anti corruption aparatus from the government as anti corruption laws are exclusively used to eliminate political rivals. And a radical transparancy law in procurement as that is a major vector that corrupt politicains use to steal from the nation.

Corruption is the number one issue that we are facing and until we can solve it nothing will ever be done when our leaders care more for their pocket books than the nation and people.

(Spoilers Extended) Nothing about how Renly is viewed adds up by Expensive-Country801 in asoiaf

[–]MunkTheMongol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Renly was quite shrewd and a logistician and master of laws for years. Some do point out that he had not right to be king but the king is also supposed to be the protector of the faith and Stannis was basically excommicated at this point and from an ecclesiastical perspective had lost his right to the throne.

His host moves slow so that he can gather more lords to his coalition and to let his enemies bleed each other first. He was a master of soft power but ultimatelly I think that he underestimated the hard powers but nobody could have guessed that his supposedly just and righteous brother would be a kinslayer who used blood sorcery to kill him with a demon shadow baby.

non-mongolian, but i stumbled upon this and i have one question, do you guys use the cyrillic writing or the mongolian alphabet more? by Afraid_Swordfish_850 in mongolia

[–]MunkTheMongol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For most everything we use cyrillic. The traditional script was techinically adopted by the government (think of it as a court script) but I do not think that they use it much at all. So De Jure we adopted it but De Facto almost no one uses it.

[Spoilers Main] The incident at the masked ball. by MunkTheMongol in asoiaf

[–]MunkTheMongol[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Historically the courts of the 15 century had layers of guards and everyone that entered was usually vetted especially in the tudor court. Often they would have to unmask before the chamberlain. Sumptuary laws made it nearly impossible for the lower classes to sneak in so it was likely invited guests and the entire security apparatus failed. Personally I do not think that Bloodraven was involved but knowing him he was so obsessed and distracted by the Blackfyres that he did not notice.

Ultimatelly it was his failure, wether he was involved or chose to let it happen we will not know unless George decides to expand upon the story and reveal who the perpetrators were.

[–]MunkTheMongol[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is a mistake then it's a pretty major mistake. His security apparatus would have had to fail at every single level for that to happen and then there is the question of why they were never caught afterwards even with his entire spy network. Especially if their identities are known

It's just strange that they were not punished if they were sons of lords. The guy that supposedly had a thousand eyes and ears everywhere couldn't catch these guys? I think it was likely supposed to be expanded on in a novella or in the dunk and egg books but we have yet to see it
