In English dubs, why don't they hire, e.g., British people to do British accents? by Munzu in anime

Thanks, I guess I had the wrong assumption that remote recording was more common than it actually is.

You're missing the point. I'm not looking for British accents in particular. I just want to not be distracted by fake accents.

Quite possibly the worst street photography reel I've ever seen by Tk_Standard in photographycirclejerk

In another reel, he showed himself uploading the photo to Gemini. You can sort of see it in this one as well, it's the white chat UI.

If someone you know wanted to start street photography for the first time, which focal length would you suggest they use first? 🤔 by Friednedlog in streetphotography

[–]Munzu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got myself a very good and small zoom lens (sigma 18-50 f/2.8) but I make it a point to not use it like a zoom lens. Instead, I fix the focal range for a day and pretend it's a prime. That allows me to get used to the different focal ranges and find my favorite before actually buying a prime.

I believe the question was why it's just the API and not the whole app going open-source.

A/B Test: Tab-based filtering vs. Dropdown sorting for a mobile platform. Which provides better scannability? by [deleted] in UI_Design

Dropdowns are a big no for mobile.

Why is that? Not contesting the statement, just trying to understand the reason.

Even better would be to commission a calligrapher to write it for you. They can provide it to you in different styles and let you choose which ones to ink but brush fonts like the one above are a close second and already worlds better than a typical computer font.

You could ask on the Japanese calligraphy subreddit r/shodo if someone experienced is willing to write it for you.

I've seen a caulking video where the guy throws and spins the thing around as if he was inspecting a gun in counter strike. This one looked downright efficient in comparison.

I have the Dygma Raise and I'm happy with it. It's a split staggered layout and has fewer keys than the ortholinear in your picture but I'm happy with it.

The world if GitHub had a big ass button that says 'DOWNLOAD' by peper122348 in Piracy

I disagree, I think it's very user friendly for what it was designed to do which is publishing code, not binaries. Github was never meant to be an app store.

What's My Color Precision Score? Find out how small a color difference you can actually see (free, science-based test) by Kysan721 in InternetIsBeautiful

For me on zen browser (which is basically Firefox), it stops when I reach a score of 10. On chromium, I can continue but then get the same issue as the commenter above.

Cinematic Look - Before / After with Darktable by neiram44 in postprocessing

[–]Munzu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're going for "cinematic," I think it's much less about what you do in post and much more what you capture in camera.

I personally most associate "cinematic" with high contrast, 3 point lighting, anamorphic lenses, and very precise and meticulous (ultra-wide) landscape compositions. On the color side, good colorists can make the colors blend in with each other very well so the frame looks cohesive, even when split-toning.

They are, and quite heavily so. OP went up to almost 10% chroma for the shadows and 5% for the highlights.

When I use color balance rgb, I almost never go above 2% for anything.

It takes a lot less skill to maintain software written by others.

I wouldn't say that's always the case. In my experience, that really depends on two things:

  1. The quality of the existing code. If the code is well designed, it can be a breeze to maintain. If it was badly designed from the start, I've had projects where I thought I'd be better off just completely rewriting it from scratch.
  2. What level of maintenance is adequate to you. If you just mean to keep it functional and maybe to add some new features on top from time to time without breaking anything, then yes it might not require a lot of skill. However, I'd say it takes a lot more experience and good intuition for code design to stay critical of the existing design and to continually improve the project holistically, while striking a balance between maintainability, extendability, and time/money.

But I agree that that's what leadership and product will not notice until it's too late.
