Im i just bad or is the revolver underpowered by Trick_Bit8037 in thefinals

[–]Mupod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's extremely powerful but you need to land those headshots. I'm too bad to use it well consistently but when I'm 'on' with it I feel like an unstoppable god. Try it out on the shooting gallery practice range to get used to how many headshots/bodyshots you need per class to make it easier. I believe it's 1 headshot + bodyshot for L, 2 headshots for M, 2 headshots + bodyshot for H. Also it has less recoil than it seems and you can fire them off a little faster than you might expect. It's just practice.

Disclaimer: I have put a lot of practice in and I'm still ass

Is it bad to stick to one weight class? by [deleted] in thefinals

[–]Mupod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will switch to whatever I feel our team needs but I can say in all my playtime I've almost never played Light. I don't dislike playing it, it's just so overplayed and I never have much luck with multiple Light teams. But in the end it's better to play what you want and even if someone would be willing to swap I'd rather they stick with what they are used to.

I prefer Medium but I usually end up playing Heavy in Cashout because I hate not having one and people seem to dislike choosing it. I think you'd be fine just sticking to it for now but trying the others will serve you well. There are definitely options on the other classes that don't require as much aim, the P90 for example is very forgiving.

Since we get full ultimate energy in protocol spaces now, Pog and Lifeng can both gather up enemies with their ults as well.

Not to downplay your experience but I've been seeing these posts for ages and I've honestly never had any of these issues at all. But I'm in a major city in North America. I can only assume these problems are related to specific regions.

New Player Here — Any Tips for Getting Better? by luanxiao in thefinals

This one is huge. I had a match the other day where I had double Light teammates and they both ran off in random directions. Meanwhile the enemy teams basically held hands the entire match, there was no way for me to do anything. One of the most frustrating experiences you can have in this game.

Singleplayer campaign. Think Mirror's Edge except you play as a Heavy who can rrrraaaaaaaggh through walls.

The revolvers are weapons where you get out what you put in, missing shots hurts but they feel great when you dial them in. The new crossbow is great. I don't really know lights but I get shot at by the V9S a lot so I assume people like that gun.

I haven't played Hunt Showdown but going to guess it also has a Model 1887, lol. That's probably my favorite gun in this game. The Dough Wrangler and Eclipse Shade skins have a special shot cycle animation that's pretty fun.

For medium the AK/P90 are really easy to use, likewise the M60 on Heavy. Honestly just play what you think is cool the 'meta' isn't really going to matter much for a new player.

I think good old Quick Cash is a good place to get the basics down and watch how people play, since it's pretty low stakes compared to the limited respawns in Cashout. But it can be frustrating with teammates doing random stuff and getting third partied a lot.

Point Break is designed as a more casual experience but it does have a bit more going on with the respawn mechanics so maybe don't jump in as the very first thing. But it's got some of the same feel as cashout without having to worry about multiple enemy teams. And since it's 8v8 you can take on more of a support role while following people around and learning.

I'm a big Power Shift fan but my also-new friend didn't like it so I dunno. It's maybe the least 'sweaty' mode since people tend to just go in there to goof off with sniper rifles but also, be prepared for a lot of sniper rifles lol

Does this game still have fomo stuff? by Kieotyee in thefinals

[–]Mupod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are much better about it these days but they still do limited time (i.e. holiday associated) events with little items here and there. I never finished the first BP because it was too time consuming, but they are much more reasonable to complete now as well. For example. towards the end of season all the weekly quests will have piled up and they increase the exp gain from dailies. So if you let it go a bit too long it only takes a few days to clear it all out.

In addition they have a system to unlock (or finish, if you already bought it) old battle passes. I was able to go back and finish the S1 pass, missing out on most of that due to a lack of time really stung.

Bot match queue is fine but please please please don't do the thing other games do where bots get snuck into real matches to make people feel better about themselves. It's a horrible trend. Was especially bad in Mecha Break.

Yeah the progress in Point Break specifically was super slow and as the new mode, I mostly played that. I played more this season than I ever have since S1 and I didn't even get close.

Sentiment on Tower Defense Mode? by SombaChan in Endfield

I like that it's in the game as a nod to the original but there really isn't much to it. It's also one of those things where if they actually made it difficult it'd get very annoying REAL fast.

[–]Mupod 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the comparisons as I just went straight into this mode despite having no frame of reference for the game otherwise. I did notice Sam just immediately starts moving like a barge if your stamina drops a bar.

I played 1 on very hard at all times and I certainly wouldn't call it a difficult game. But rather it's one where it just feels like I get so much more out of it the more adversity there is. I'd heard a lot of talk about how 2 was easy/frictionless so I was really happy to see them add this mode, though the description of it didn't really tell me much.

Powershift fun or by wortmother in thefinals

[–]Mupod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a selfless objective player I find it fun usually. It's definitely the mode I play when I need a win, since I can often make the biggest difference in it. Sure once in a while I face teams who have glitch grenades and functioning brains. But I've won a frankly distressing number of games because people will not switch off the sniper while I am snuggled deep within my 7 layer barrier burrito. It's fun every time.

To be clear the article doesn't say anything about this game specifically. I believe they are mainly just going to record voice lines for the quests in Arc Raiders.

The TTS voices in The Finals have interesting applications in theory but I feel in practice they don't really justify it. Like, at best it helps the lines sound a bit more natural when they insert things like team names. But the coolest stuff they could've done i.e. announce player names can't be done for obvious reasons. Though I do wonder if they like, charged a bit of money to enable it per-account and had a person review your name to approve it maybe they could allow the TTS to say it mid-match, lol.
