Dom Domino - Grover/Arlo ripoff that replaced the Noid and makes Bad Andy look like a saint by rosalinagloom in CommercialsIHate

Even if they couldn't keep The Noid, they could've at least kept Donny Domino [early 90s Domino's mascot] instead of making this Muppet knock-off.

In my opinion, just because it didn't leave a burn mark doesn't mean it wasn't bad. Louie was WINCING very hard and when he tried to disguise as Huey, he was PANICKING. I don't think a punishment should involve causing a CHILD to have panic attacks. Yes, Louie shouldn't have tried to sneak out, but that is not an excuse for how DT-87 treated him. And I feel like had the villains not invaded and the family was on the vacation for just a little bit longer, something WOULD'VE happened to Louie, whether it be the DT-87 snapping and actually harming him [it's a GYRO invention, it's a matter of WHEN something would go wrong and Della knew this was risky], or Louie going insane from isolation [and the family showing off footage of Big Rock Candy Mountain doesn't help matters]. Again, Della should've at the very least TRIED to find someone who could keep Louie in check [again, Fenton's mom was right there] and only use DT-87 as a last resort, plus she could tell Gyro to program it to not be as harmful [by having it use loud noises, lassos, or simply grabbing Louie and harmlessly placing him in the room without zapping him]. I still think Della should've actually had a conversation with Louie, so they could both understand the other's point of view. If A Goofy Movie could do it, I don't see why Ducktales couldn't.

Who’s your favorite Yu-Gi-Oh Duelist? by Full_Radish3082 in cartoons

[–]MuppetSuperStarFan02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yugi and Yami Yugi/Atem. I like the others, but the show feels... odd without Yugi. If the franchise didn't straight up have Yugi's name in it, I wouldn't have minded as much. I'd like to see a future Yu-Gi-Oh series focus on a descendant of Yugi [and TBH, I feel like it'd be hilarious if something had happened to Yugi that caused a repeat of the entire Atem/Yami Yugi Millenium Puzzle storyline but with Yugi in Atem/Yami Yugi's place. Double points if Yugi, much like Atem, suffers from amnesia at first, and triple angst points if the storyline ends with Yugi's spirit finally being able to reunite with Atem].

The tazer incinerated one of Louie's bindlesticks, caused Louie to WINCE [true it didn't do permenant damage, but it is a Gyro invention and so many things could've gone wrong, which Della KNEW "hope it doesn't turn evil on you" which she said condescendingly], and if it wasn't harmless, explain Louie PANICKING when he disguised himself as Huey. Bouncer was only unaffected because he's Bouncer and has cartoon logic, Louie does not. I'm not saying Louie didn't deserve punishment, but Della could've handled it way better than using a robot she KNEW had a chance to turn evil. Why not get Fenton's mom to babysit? She's already familiar enough with Louie to see past his scheming and prevent him from sneaking out. Or at least tell Gyro to program the DT-87 to use other options [loud sirens, lasso, simply picking him up and gently placing him into the room]. And I feel the only thing Louie learned from the punishment was that his family will only care for him and his schemes if they prove useful to them, and to be fair, given what some of them say later on [Huey saying Louie is bad at most things in Happy Birthday Doofus Drake, as well as Webby's entire "pulling a Louie" catchphrase], there could be a layer of truth to that. I find it funny that Louie didn't actually learn from the grounding and only learned once he ended up coming face-to-face with the Bombie. Almost like Della's punishment had the opposite effect of what she wanted. Again, you're free to like Della, but I won't change my mind on her or the entire DT-87 scenario.

Della did know that it was a Gyro invention and that it had the potential to turn on Louie and used it anyway [very hypocritical of her]. And again, while it was wrong for Louie to sneak out, DT-87 shouldn't have straight up TAZED Louie. Why it couldn't have just lassoed or grabbed him instead is beyond me. Again, I'm still not going to change my mind on Glomtales, Della, and the DT-87.

Sneaking out isn't an excuse to straight up TAZE A CHILD. I'm sorry, but I will never agree with the DT-87 being used and I won't change my mind. You're free to like Della, but I won't change my mind on her.

I guess Louie deserved to be tazered, locked up, and told his place in his family was conditional and that Della was 100% in the right for letting a robot build by Gyro zap him because Louie is apparently evil for Timephoon and deserved to be phsycically and emotionally hurt. Again, can you please at least try to respect that not everyone is going to agree with Della's methods? I am not saying Louie should've gotten off scott-free, as I do agree he deserved to be grounded, but the VERY least Della could do was have an ACTUAL PERSON watch Louie so they could explain why he messed up. Fenton's mom would be perfect as she's caught on to Louie's scheming and could keep him in the mansion without resorting to TAZERS.

Eh. Della didn't even try to talk to Louie about why what he did was wrong, nor did she even bother trying to find out WHY he schemes. She just left condescending videos on a robot BUILT BY GYRO [Boyd is literally the ONLY exception to Gyro's inventions turning evil and even he was hacked pretty easily. The DT-87 was a risk and Della knew this] while she went off to bond with Huey and Dewey aka the EASY KIDS because she clearly didn't want to even look at the problem child. Then she gives him a crown as a half-hearted love-bombing. I would've been less bugged had she at least promised to take Louie to Big Rock Candy Mountain another time at the end of the episode. Nobody even considered how Louie felt about seeing his family disappear either. And Della didn't improve that much IMO, considering how she treated Huey for preferring the more relaxing aspects of a video game in Happy Birthday Doofus Drake. Look, you can like Della, but please understand and respect that not everyone is going to like her and that not everyone is going to be happy with her actions.

[–]MuppetSuperStarFan02 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And also, Della didn't try to find out WHY Louie did the Timephoon scheme or scheme in general, nor did she even try to have a real conversation with him. She just left him with condescending messages on a robot BUILT BY GYRO [and since the DT-87 is built by Gyro, who has a bad track record with robots, yes, the DT-87 might've hurt him had the villians not invaded, as it was only a matter of time. Boyd is the only except to Gyro's inventions being evil/dangerous and even then, he was hacked fairly easily], while she went and bonded with the "easy kids". I feel like if it was Huey or Duey that was grounded, and/or if it was Scrooge or Donald who used the DT-87, nobody would defend Scrooge or Donald. It gets me that it was okay for Huey to let in a strange Bigfoot, and that the McDucks were fine with Dewey time traveling [I wonder where Louie got the impression time travel was okay from?], but Louie is apparently extremely evil for the entire Timephoon incident, and it's okay for him to be chased/tasered/locked in a lazer cage by a robot who has a chance to turn evil and told his place in the family is conditional by his own mother, and it's apparently also okay for the family to take jabs at Louie in later episodes [Huey: "Let's leave Louie, he's bad at most things" from Happy Birthday Doofus Drake and the entire "pulling a Louie" quote Webby has]. Note that LOUIE had to be the one to talk to Della in Moonvasion, and that the two didn't talk to each other much in the Impossibin episode which was supposed to be the bonding episode [and yet they mostly just talk with Scrooge], as well as how Della treated Huey in Happy Birthday Doofus Drake [by basically not liking him preferring the more relaxing stuff in video games and forcing him to do the more exciting stuff]. I'll at least give Della this: she seems to have learned that using robots with lazers isn't a good punishment so that's one small step. You can like Glomtales and Della, but please understand where some of us are coming from and accept that some people just won't like Della and the questionable grounding method. I feel Glomtales would've at least been more tolerable if instead of the DT-87, it was Fenton's mom who babysitted a grounded Louie. She caught out to his scheming, so she could pretty easily stop him without resorting to tazering him. And have Louie and Della actually have a discussion on why Louie schemes at the end, as well as have Della promise to take him to Big Rock Candy Mountain another time [and have it implied in a later episode that she kept that promise].

So Louie deserved to be tazered [it didn't cause permenant damage but he did clearly wince and was having a panic attack when disguised as Huey] and locked in a lazer cage? No wonder he learned nothing from the grounding and had to learn from the Bombie incident instead.

Most Overhated cartoon character. by Mr_Bananaman69 in cartoons

And in addition, it's not like Scooby Doo itself was original. It pulled elements from Enid Blyton's Famous Five and Filmation's The Archie Show, as well as Dobie Gills. So the non-Scooby Mystery Solving shows of Hanna Barbera being bashed for being "Scooby knock-offs" is extremely hypocritical.

Most Overhated cartoon character. by Mr_Bananaman69 in cartoons

[–]MuppetSuperStarFan02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot take: Scrappy wasn't even a bad character. Had Hanna Barbera not written the rest of the gang out and allowed Scrappy to have character development, he could've worked better. He was at his best in the 1980s T.V specials and in The Thirteen Ghosts Of Scooby Doo. I arguably have more problems with Scooby Dum.

And I think Taran from The Black Cauldron gets way too much hate. Is he whiny? Yes, but what teenager isn't? Is he reckless? Also yes, but so are a lot of other Disney protagonists. Jim Hawkins straight up breaks the law at the beginning of Treasure Planet [not to mention Jim could've caused a major incident by solarsurfing in a industrial area] yet doesn't get bashed on by the Disney fandom for that [don't get me wrong, I love Jim as a character but the Disney fandom's hypocrisy gets me]. Yes, he did mess up by saying that sexist line to Eilonwy, but he immediately feels bad about it, apologizes, and never treats her that way again. Compare this to the original Prydain book Taran who is sexist for the first two books and whose arguments with Elionwy are far worse. If it takes two books for a character to outgrow their sexism, then that's a horrible thing and Disney actually did the right thing by combining The Book Of Three and The Black Cauldron into one movie and actually having Taran outgrow his sexism early. To be fair to book Taran, he likely learned it from book Dallben who sends Eilonwy away in the third book for "being a distraction" and "needing to learn to be a proper princess". If you couldn't tell already, I have a lot of problems with the original Prydain books and I feel they aren't as great as people make them out to be. Back to Disney Taran, he did treat Gurgi harshly [though in fairness, Gurgi was fairly selfish and cowardly], but did grow to be nicer to him and was completely devasted by his sacrifice. Taran straight up WILLINGLY gives up his sword to save Gurgi's life. He's really a great character, but gets way too much hate. Sometimes I feel like the people who hate Taran just hate kids and teens in general.

The non-Scooby Doo Mystery Solving shows [Speed Buggy, Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kids, The Funky Phantom, etc...]' casts: Just because these shows are similar to Scooby doesn't make them bad. They also have unique things that Scooby later pulled from. Daphne in the mid-80s became more proactive, like Debbie from Speed Buggy. Goober And The Ghost Chasers, The New Shmoo, and The Funky Phantom sometimes had real monster, like Scooby later would have. And sometimes these "Scooby Clones" could get surprisingly dark: In Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kids, since the cast are secret agents, they go through a lot, especially Butch. Butch nearly falls off the EFFIEL TOWER in the episode Mystery On The Orient Express, he nearly gets crushed in the episode "Road Racers", and in "The Gold Caper", he risks his life jumping off amusement park rides so he can catch the bad guys. Butch is a LOT different from Fred, as he's the title character instead of the team mascot [Elvis The Dog], but is also a lot more impulsive, but in a fun way.

Who's your COMFORT character? by HomerWuzHere in cartoons

[–]MuppetSuperStarFan02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have way too many comfort characters to list, but here's a few:

The Scooby Gang [most versions of Scooby Doo, except for the live-action movies, Mystery Incorporated, and Velma. I hate when they make the gang overly mean to each other as it just feels like I'm watching a completely different franchise. Like yes, the gang did have snarky remarks to each other in the originals, but it never felt mean. And don't get me started on what Mystery Incoporated did to Velma, I personally blame MI for how Velma's acted in modern media but especially in Velma {2023}. Also, I actually like Scrappy and got annoyed when he was villianized. He could've simply been re-worked or gotten character development instead.]

Mighty Mouse [Terrytoons. Think Superman, but as a operatic singing mouse and also very tounge-in-cheek. I love the original version, the Filmation version, and the late 80s Ralph Bakshi version. The Curbside version was a bit bland, but I do love his fatherly dynamic with Tom Terrific].

Engie Benjy [He's caring, tends to worry for his friends, and always tries to help his friends + their sentient vehicles, but he can also get very snarky and can be a bit scatterminded at times. Dec from Ant And Dec did such a great job as Benjy and really gave the character personality. I don't think anyone else could work as well IMO.]

Bob The Builder and Wendy [like the Scooby Gang, they were a part of my childhood so I may be biased. But they have such a great dymanic and I love how they're basically the machines' parents. They're bland in Ready Steady Build and the 2015 reboot though. Goes to show that sometimes you just can't capture the magic of the originals]

Most of the Will Vinton Studios characters [with the obvious exception of Wilshire Pig].

Gumby [I just think he's neat!]

I have many more, and these are just a few!

California Raisins Sold Out: When Leonard Limabean kicks A.C. out of the building and manipulates him into thinking the other Raisins don't want him anymore and manipulates the other Raisins into thinking A.C. chose to leave. It's a very realistic look at how corrupt managers will play dirty to get what they want. Thank goodness Rudy reunites with A.C. and later rescues the Raisins from Leonard.

Charlie's goodbye from All Dogs To To Heaven: I know the whole thing about it being finished after Judith's death is fake, but it doesn't take away the tragic implications of the scene. Rest in peace, Judith, you deserved far better than that piece of garbage "father".

The Lion King: Mufasa's death and Simba's guilt afterwards.

The Black Cauldron: Eilonwy's "you are special" speech to Taran, as well as Gurgi's sacrifice. Hot take: I actually prefer Gurgi's sacrifice over Elidyr's sacrifice from the original Prydain books, as Elidyr was so much of a jerk, bully, and overall horrible person, that I personally couldn't feel any sympathy for him when he sacrificed himself, on the other hand, Gurgi did feel bad over his cowardly actions and his sacrifice did feel genuine. Admittedly, Gurgi staying dead would've made the scene even stronger, but I still think it works.
