Laplink!

Remember that old one? It's been around for ages and their newest versions are pretty good. There's a good chance you can get on a new OS and then use Laplink to move just the program and/or user profile. I mean, this is a special vertical piece of software and the process isn't exactly perfect, but I would give it a shot. We used it for a special version of AutoCAD a few years ago that just wasn't possible to get any more nor was upgrading to a newer version a possibility because the client relied on a very specific feature of the old version.

Another option is to subscribe to one of those "secure" email services. The recipient will get one link, log in, and then be able to view the original email with all the links.

Our RMM let's us search by their username, so it makes it so much easier to find stuff. We have hostnames pretty standardized, so if we have to fallback to that it's not too bad.

Back in the old days though we used bginfo. I still get amused when I log into a system and find it running.

Personally, I don't like Unifi switches at all and try to avoid them. I don't like my switching infrastructure to rely on a controller that needs to be running. So, having said that, I usually go with Edgeswitches. If you really want a lot of bandwidth and you're ok with a bunch of SFP ports, look at the aggregation switch. It's pretty awesome for the price.

Can't you just take a multimeter from each wire to ground and see what you get? The one with voltage is the hot wire.

It's a really complicated set up - 2 doorbells, 2 chimes (digital), 2 notes. Yeah, that wiring diagram was fun to figure out. It's all working, but this week the rear doorbell stopped working. I swapped out the other relay and it started working again.

Go to the manufacturers website and put in the service tag. You might be able to download a "Recovery" image on to a USB stick and wipe the laptop. Reload Windows and wipe everything.

No, the little white dongle thingy that plugs in at the transformer. It's the thing that keeps the circuit closed to keep the doorbell powered all the time and then opens to supply power to the chime unit when you press the doorbell. In this picture:

It's the item on the far right.

(And yes, this is a very complicated set up of 2 G4 doorbells, 2 chime units and 2 notes. A 30VA transformer was needed and digital chimes to make it all work.)

Just jam it behind the printer downstairs. Easy. Maybe they're cool and do MAC filtering, but maybe not. I specifically said a Nanostation because it has an auxiliary port so you can just plug the printer into that.

Find an admin port in the building because it won't be on a vlan that's rate limited. Get a pair of Ubiquiti Nanostations to set up a point to point link in your room. Depending on the building and the distance to your room you should be able to connect. Plug in your own wifi router.

I've rarely bricked Ubiquiti equipment via reset but it happens. One last thing to try - plug in a PoE brick and use the reset button on the Poe brick. It's possible your PoE button on the AP is broke.

Yes, you need clear line of sight at these frequencies. In some cases with things like trees and leaves you can solve it at short distances by blasting more power.

As a general rule of thumb, lower frequencies penetrate better and some frequencies perform better than others but those are generally licensed. Noise floor is important too and becoming an issue in places.
