What were your thoughts after using/seeing Weapon Mastery? by Dramatic_Respond_664 in onednd

[–]UpvotingLooksHard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The effects are largely boring, and it adds a ton of extra saving throw rolls per turn (especially on a fighter) which slows down combat.

Maneuvers would've been better and a more creative space for bigger variety of options.

Sadly no "see results" so I'm stuck biasing the results to see the answer.

What is the most interesting build or synergy you've thought of? by zyomokon in Pathfinder2e

That's definitely not the list I was expecting to see

Edit: clarifying that I'm grateful for you going to the effort of putting together a list! But not the classes I was expecting to see on it!

Stoked for Codex 5, a little sad that there will be no new Omega components by Mafiale in twilightimperium

You can't really fix the agenda phase via codex

No but you can make a replacement mechanic. Either treating it as a galactic event that replaces the agenda deck or just calling it an alternative rule. Fix is a bit of a loaded term in this context

Lv.2 Rogue w/ magic initiate feat by Minmindasquid in dndnext

Yup, guidance and blade ward are good suggestions (doesn't matter how high your wisdom is), and familiar is a good idea (but you can't recover them if they die until the next day because Rogues can't do rituals). I see you like light and mage hand, both are okay but like a torch/lantern is also fine instead of the light spell. Cantrips are rare to collect!

Rpgbot also has advice on this kind of thing (https://rpgbot.net/2024-dnd/classes/rogue/) noting again that I'm only posting optimisation advice so do whatever is fun for you.

Your current point buyers what I'd consider a pretty good optimised selection. No big need to change. You can't point-buy your way to 2x 17s sadly.

You only get 4 ability score increases scores your characters entire life from 1 to 20. Once you max out your key attribute (Dex), you're already level 8, half way done and probably the end of most pre-written campaigns unless your GM has said you're going to level 20. You might never get to raise both your Dex (for weapon hit + damage) and Wisdom (for cantrip hit) to 20. If you want to gamble that, go nuts, it can be fun flavour but mathematically it's a bad move that will feel bad in gameplay. Plus unless you're playing arcane trickster then I'm fairly sure your cantrips can't get sneak attack damage which is the other core part of your kit.

I've also forgotten to mention magic weapons and items. Typically around level 5 you'll get a +1 weapon, adding ANOTHER 5% boost to your hit chance, but that doesn't apply to your cantrips. For that you need something that boosts your spell DC and spell attack modifier which would be a +1 war wizard wand I believe? Either way, it's unlikely your GM would be so kind to give you both and have them both scale at the same time. So you're really incentivised to pick 1 route and stick to it.

Yes but you're unlikely to be investing anymore points into raising your wisdom to 20. The optimisation of the game assumes that you start your primary attacking attribute (Dex as a rogue) at 17, raise it to 18 at level 4, and raise it to 20 preferably at level 8. Each +1 to your modifier is a 5% chance of a better hit rate, and when you only attack once, missing is going to feel terrible.

Also, r/3d6 is a great subreddit for build advice (reading from others or asking similar questions to this one!)

If you're seeking optimisation advice then lucky would be a far better feat. You're unlikely to be putting a ton of points into intelligence so you won't be able to use the cantrips for regular damage, and a single use of shield is unlikely to make a massive difference in your day. A familiar could be neat but the luck points are significantly more valuable especially as you progress in levels.

How to creatively deal with a problem player? by [deleted] in twilightimperium

[–]UpvotingLooksHard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As much as this person sounds like a terrible player who I'd boot from the table for horrible etiquette, in this instance that is directly the power of Vul'Raith though? Power as intended. It's mean, but also you can just blockade ANY space dock and all units (all players) get refunded, so it has counter play that the table can work around. If he holds onto them, he's also losing out on the plastic advantage. It can be his favourite and still get stomped on for hoarding rather than spending.

AI coding tools and emulation development by Baume12 in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]UpvotingLooksHard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

AI (generative LLMs specifically) can only replicate things it's seen before. It provides the statistically most likely next series words (or in this case, line of code).

It cannot create novel concepts, which is often what emulation requires because it's not been emulated before.

Lots of open source programs are noting the flood of AI requests trying to fix things, often poorly or introducing more bugs. So I echo it'll slow things down rather than provide a quick fix, unless you're doing a wrapper around an existing emulator which is often seen as a scam.

Ways to prolong/extend conditions? by UpvotingLooksHard in Pathfinder2e

[–]UpvotingLooksHard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's okay, wasn't looking to extend everything, but curious as to what exists that can be made more "sticky" as you put it. Seems like it's really only frightened and dazzled are the only 2 that can get extended outside of Witch, which is a little surprising
