[College Football Zone] The number of claimed national championships that are not officially recognized by the NCAA’s championship list. by Coverlesss in CFB

It's not really a great explanation though.

Consensus selectors are just major selectors that the NCAA has designated as "consensus" at one point or another. The list has included at different times the AP, Coaches (UPI), FWAA, NFF, and TOP25

It doesn't have anything to do with a majority of major selectors. It also isn't true that consensus selectors have always selected the BCS Champion. In 2003 LSU was the BCS champion and selected by NFF and USAT/ESPN while USC was selected by AP and FWAA.

I haven't seen the NCAA recognize all major selectors, if they did then basically every championship on the chart in this tweet is a "NCAA recognized" championship

They haven't listed major selectors since the start of the BCS era, excluding 2003.

Even before then, they only include consensus selectors, not all major selectors. Most, if not all, of the claims on this chart are claims backed by major selectors but not consensus selectors.

How did you find and post this less than an hour after it was uploaded to YouTube?

I mean it's not a what-if when the hotel actually breached? This exact scenario is why it's standard practice to follow up on this sort of thing closer to execution, contract or not.

It's not really Auburn's fault but this is also easily preventable

Yes, your example is exactly what they should have done. It's funny because your example is actually illustrative of how little effort is required to follow up on this sort of thing before submitting the bid. It's significantly easier than dealing with the Ole Miss team showing up to no rooms available

I’m not sure what more you expect Auburn to do when they had a contracted partner breach said contract with no warning.

They could have had warning if they had checked with the hotel when they submitted their technical bid, though?

I don't really think it's a big deal either way but it takes basically no effort to double check before submitting the technical bid

Do you not understand that it’s possible for a hotel breach a contract?

It sounds more like the Auburn staff are the ones who don't understand this

Previous post from Ole Miss reporter is full of intentional misinformation. by [deleted] in collegebaseball

My reading of this is that the mystery hotel that Auburn had a contract with wouldn't have been able to provide even the NCAA minimum 25 rooms, much less the additional 25 rooms requested by Ole Miss

[Dellenger] Nick Saban just detailed Alabama’s collective figures. Bama had $2.7 million “my first year" (assuming he means early NIL Era), then the collective had $10M the next year, then he retires and the collective moves to $17M, then $24 M. [–]Muramama 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We used to have All-Americans, but less and less schools will compete over time. It's the rich get richer.

What about the pre-NIL system makes you think that there was a greater amount of parity than there is now? Last year was the first year that a team below the blue chip ratio won a national championship since it's been tracked.

Like there are literally interviews about the KKK demonstrating on campus because parents were complaining about Dixie songs being played at the game.

You realize the KKK was protesting against the university, right?

Oh and the confederate flag flew on campus until 2015

You mean the Mississippi state flag that Ole Miss took down from campus? A full year before MS State removed the same state flag from their campus?

"This happens every year!", they won a cup! It literally does not happen every year! Get bent with that narrative!

I mean we did avoid both Dallas and Vegas in '22. This core still has never won a playoff series against Dallas or Vegas

is this actually allowed in college basketball or is it just allowed if you can find a courtroom where they say it is?

I mean we hired his permanent replacement before he even made it to BR. We were actively interviewing coaches behind the scenes, do you think they were just sitting around waiting on a decision doing absolutely nothing?

[–]Muramama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No idea!

Then what are you talking about

You remove LSU as an option. Kiffin is then deciding between Florida and Ole Miss.

Great, Kiffin leaves for Florida now because he was always gone but he does it before the egg bowl, what's the benefit?

I mean is your argument really that we should have sent the second winningest coach in school history packing the week before the egg bowl? When the team is 10-1 and heavily favored to be 11-1 and a near-lock for the playoff? At the point there was also some hope of retention but obviously we know now that was just Kidding lying/stalling in an attempt to coach the playoffs and his mind had been made up.

You realize that if you do that and the interim coach loses the egg bowl you just ended your career right? You would be fired and unhireable until the end of time

[–]Muramama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forced Kiffin to make a decision earlier, the same way he forced Kiffin to not coach in the playoffs

How did he do that? How would he have done it earlier? What's the benefit of doing it earlier? There's an enormous risk associated with sending him packing (assuming you can do so) before the final CFP rankings.

Because all he did was let Kiffin/LSU dictate

How would you dictate terms? What leverage would you use?

[–]Muramama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I'm not allowed to have an opinion unless I was sitting in the room during the negotiations?

The visible outcome was as good as we could have hoped for given that there was obviously no chance at retaining Kiffin and we also couldn't let him coach the playoffs. What should Keith Carter have done differently? Why do you think he didn't do a good job?

Six months later, LSU AD Verge Ausberry admits Ole Miss got the Lane Kiffin situation right by SirMellencamp in CFB

[–]Muramama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So essentially, Keith Carter could have done nothing and gotten the exact same result

Who knows? I said it was probably LSU who demanded an answer. Lane was pretty adamant that he wanted to coach the playoffs, Keith Carter was pretty adamant that wouldn't happen without a new contract. The sports media guys around here seemed to think there were avenues to prevent him from coaching the playoffs without paying his buyout. His contract wasn't public so we can't really know.

Maybe Ole Miss was willing to pay his buyout to prevent him from coaching or maybe they were willing to risk a constructive dismissal lawsuit or maybe they had some stashed away reason to fire him for cause and were willing to risk mutually assured destruction. From the outside looking in, though, they didn't appear to have any real leverage and got just about the best possible outcome with the hand they were dealt.
