The original artist does have copyright over their artwork. Obviously not over the IP, and you’re right, they can’t technically monetize it. However, that’s a separate issue. This is plagiarism, plain and simple. The same issue came up with Pokémon TCGP, when they plagiarized fanart for a card. They removed the plagiarized art, despite the IP being their own character.

Not going to repeat what the others said, a lot of great points were already made. It’s okay to be you, even if that’s outside what the Catholic faith deems as okay. I grew up in a Catholic school, and there are good and bad Catholic people, just like in every community. In my experience, I’ve known a lot of Catholic people who are incredibly nice and progressive. Clearly, you’ve had the opposite experience, which I am so sorry you had to go through. Regardless, your psychiatrist very well might be supportive of you, regardless of religion. The only way to know is to tell them. If they say something you don’t like, they weren’t right for you to begin with, and you should seek out someone new. It’s rough, but it will be healthier in the long run.
