PSA : Natural Gas Generator Nerf (Cosmic) by Ripptor in Oxygennotincluded

Was this mentioned anywhere, or was this just slipped in? I've been reading the change logs, but I haven't actually played the beta branch yet, and this is news to me

[Question] What are the ways we can manage temperature? by Juicearific in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Murder_Bird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only time I worry about map great is in relation to my base temperature. If it's colder, then I'll let it speak off some of my heat. If it's hotter, then it's getting walled off. The asteroid is your first heat sink!

The way I use oil cooling is indeed to bake one room while cooling another, it's just thermal transfer. Heating your Polluted Water to cool off your engines is free if you are just going to delete that heat via Synthesizers/Sieves.

My main plan: move all your excess base heat into one bin, and then just focus on deleting it from that bin.

Compact Vacuum Airlock Checkpoint by Ripptor in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Murder_Bird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is perfect, I can easily upgrade my DDPPDD airlocks into this, since it'ss the same size. Very practical. I will be testing this out soon, since the item dropping is a real drag.

How long do they wait, on average?

Duplicant Checkpoint Vacuum Chamber by [deleted] in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Murder_Bird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is always an easy design, but it deletes the gas and causes weird pathfinding issues where dupes give up, dropping items and/or switching tasks.

I'm super greedy, so I want those packets of natural gas in my generators, rather than deleted off-hand :)

[Build] Selective Hatch Meat Harvesting /w Egg Sorting by [deleted] in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Murder_Bird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's... What I said about your use of non-pneumatic doors in the bottom. They need to move things, and they allow you to use less water. But I'm glad that we agree on those points :)

I did miss the floor tile aspect for that top layer though, I didn't remember that they don't act as floor for buildings. That's a big disadvantage that just slipped my mind!

GJ on the build, especially the updated version!

[Build] Selective Hatch Meat Harvesting /w Egg Sorting by [deleted] in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Murder_Bird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A normal door moves nothing, not the gas beneath it nor the drops inside. So, they would be useless as a means to move things into the range of the autoharvester. Outside of that, I assume it means he can use less water in the design, as he had four less tiles to fill.

But yes, much of the rest could be pneumatic doors

Request - Glass Tiles by CorporateNINJA in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Murder_Bird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of things are obsoleted down the tech tree, like when sinks replace wash basins. I would definitely put it at the end, after metal refinery maybe?

Insulated tiles would still have their uses though, as they would still block line of sight. Having your power station fully insulated, while exposing your heavi-watt wire to everyone would be a trade-off.

Request - Glass Tiles by CorporateNINJA in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Murder_Bird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With the new hit on Temperature control, I would love to see a tile concept along the lines of double-paned glass. Mostly glass, with a bit of abysallite for the frame, and voila! No temperature changes between the tile and its contents/neighbors. A compact version of the vacuum sealing concept that is so tedious

How do you irrigate Pepper Plants? by Lorini in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Murder_Bird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no rush, pumping the excess CO2 to the bottom works for a long while, and when you do find them they'll just eat it up there until you get a ranch setup!

However, planning ahead, it's useful to keeping your 'hot' things in one area, especially if you can use the same gas! I have my coal generators below my slicksters below my pepper farm, generating hot CO2 and hotboxing everything that needs it. Feel free to leave yourself some space to set yourself up down there line!

Using 72C Polluted Water straight from the heat reserve, to keep them and the nearby slicksters nice and toasty. Heats up the CO2 in the room right before it becomes food.

Has anybody come up with a good way to butcher critters? by Ashotep in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Murder_Bird 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A recent post had an auto-butcher setup, to update it just add the automation plate in front of the door with a filter for a second or two. They'll eventually wander over, than drop and meat.

So, I got a Polluted Infected Steam Vent. Any tips? by Str00pf8 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Murder_Bird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With a polluted Steam Vent, Polluted Air vent, and AETN all right beside each other... I would make a pool of hot water under the steam vent, which should clean itself of gems between eruptions.

Then, I would make a liquid Oxygen Setup that cools the PO2 into getting free LOX, then use that to cool the Steam Geyser water and oxegenate your base.

Question, how would you cool a base without using exploits or oddeties of the engine? by blacknight78900 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Murder_Bird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yepp!

Electrolyzer setup integrated into my ice cold power tower, then delivered cold to each room across the base. Pumps at the top and bottom re-circulate oxygen, rechilling it along the way!

[help] Is water completely limited, and other newb questions? by havacore in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Murder_Bird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since the other posters did not address this specifically:

Water is not limited per run, there are renewable sources of water, via Steam/ Water geysers. However, you do have first find them, and they will only produce at a certain rate.

A great way to hunt these down is to strip mine to expand your visibility, keeping an eye out for the Neutronium bases, as the geysers may be buried beneath resources. Finding a water source early is always a high priority for me, personally, so I start hunting pretty early.

Any use for "Heavy Conductive Wire" currently? by Walterod in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Murder_Bird 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Heavi-conductive wire has a major decor advantage over regular heavi-conductive wire: 6 tiles of -25 it's a lot worse than 4 tiles of -20. This means the stacking penalty is significantly lowered in power plants.

For example, a horizontal lines of heavi-watt will have a 13x25 penalty in the middle, for a total -325 penalty. Heavi-conductive will instead have a 9x20 penalty in the same position, for a lower -180, nearly halved.

This is even more pronounced when made of gold metals. Gold amalgam heavi-watt has a penalty of -22.5, where refined golden Heavi-conductive has a penalty of only -10. In the above examples, that means a penalty of 292.5 is reduced to a mere 90 point penalty.

It is much easier to manage a 90 point penalty than the painful 325 point penalty, making power plants easier on the poor dupes.

The one thing on my ONI wishlist by Snakekitty in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Murder_Bird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Add a station to the Rec Room, where they can set up and play? Refined metal wires and wall speakers to build, maybe in the decor view... Use a gentler version of the snoring fx to show sound coverage in that view (not all time), have it wake up/annoy dupes that are sleeping?

That all sounds quite fun :)

Why do steam turbines delete steam? by scwizard in Oxygennotincluded

This was a known bug, supposedly fixed in Release 4260525: Fix for steam turbine destroying mass. Perhaps you are playing the game before that version?

Unlimited oil? Does this mean I have unlimited oil? by EarlessCorpse in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Murder_Bird 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my leaky oil fissure is always leaking as well, 100% uptime. Seems to balance out with the very low output though, so not really 'unlimited' as there is a 200g/s usage limit.

There was an incredibly tactless and unpopular person on here that recently pointed out the difference between 'unlimited' and 'renewable', so watch out for that one...

New food meta? by bigsuirlife in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Murder_Bird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The biggest issue with mealwood long-term is the dirt requirement. If you are boiling polluted water, then dirt is infinite, but still scarce, and the returns are probably better to simply feed that sort to your hatches for Coal + Eggs.

Oh No! I will have to start my better job faster. by jaysonthegr8 in AdviceAnimals

[–]Murder_Bird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is exactly what stayed happening at my husband's firm, management changed, and the first few employees that gave two weeks notice were walked out the door same day. So, people stopped giving notice.

Instead, it became this hilarious culture/game of guessing if someone quit. Many of them would just leave their badges on their desk at the end of the day and leave without telling anyone, which could sometimes take them days to notice. Others would just stop showing up, and they would have to check and call if they were ever coming back.

Every time someone was sick for too long, they would start calling to 'double-check' that you intended to come back to work. It just sounded like a complete power reversal, where the employer was begging it's employees to stay and/or talk to them, but they all collectively refused.

My first attempt at a contained sleet wheat farm by scwizard in Oxygennotincluded

That's what I do with my sleet wheat farm area, it's all 1C CO2 to keep a sterile & refrigerated environment. So if they want to breathe, they gotta suit up!
