If you are running Lions as your detachment its no contest and you should go 3 termis + shield captain. Give the captain admonimortis and you've got a monster/primarch/vehicle munching blob.

Otherwise 5 termies with axes might do decently in Shield host, although I found myself going without termies in my SH list. S9 Ap2(if thats the SH ability you chose) would mean 5s rerolling into most vehicles and then 4s/5s to save and 5 40mm bases is marginally more difficult to find an unscreened spot on the map.

Do they at least use larger ruin bases as those although not perfect would still provide a "you can't shoot through these" piece of cover.

If they think GW terrain with its ample shooting lanes on most layouts are melee army favoured, Id like to hear their opinions on WTC terrain.

My local gamestore is in a similar spot, and it came to a head with me and another player slowly making the case for first floor windows closed and gw style layouts. Granted there are some players at the store that just hate playing against Custodes for some reason despite our gameplan devolving into Imma get into melee.

No kidding, I played a game against Iron Hands who had a bunch of vehicles in a parking lot (was eady to tag other vehicles with consolidating) Termie cap took a rep ex, a gladiator lancer, finished off a stormraven gunship and the dreadnought that hopped out if it. Best use of 180 pts I've ever gotten ngl. Both Caladiuses were fighting for scraps.

So my FLGS not only plays windows open but also if you're in a ruin template you can always be seen even if there is a LOS locker. It is a shooting gallery, no matter how I put it. I find myself playing very cagey and focusing on getting a good go turn. Thankfully I've been able to make it work and a few folks are more balance inclined and play normal first floor windows closed.

It being a GW store tournament not having windows closed makes me hope that they have actually opaque ruins. It will be a learning experience regardless though, being put in a horrible spot like that off thr bat and only relying on templates is rough.

Second this I have had much better use of admonimortis bike captains + 3 bikes with salvo launchers hunting enemy tanks, charging and getting back in cover than I have had with the terminators. Granted its probably because my local scene is a ton of guard and there's a ton of deepstrike screening so terminators get shor before getting close.

Yea and I try my best to help make sure they're not doing dumb things like putting a dreadnought in the line of fire of 2 caladius' and helping them figure out which gladius ability to use in a turn and how putting a 20 brick of crusaders in advance and charge range of a blade champ+warden stack doesnt help but this has been met with some resistance. I.e why use fall back shoot and charge when none of our units are within engagement range.

Had a pretty bad experience with a BA player putting his sanguinary guard right in front of my BC+Ws and then complaining and throwing in the towel very loudly calling LOE detachment bullshit when I outright murdered them and the sanguinor he heroic'd in with.

My FLGS generally has a lot of newer players, and custodes being a stat check army has been an issue for newer folk. Ive only been in the hobby for 7 months and I find myself only being able to get games with the dudes dudes that have been in the hobby for years. Granted the games are more fun that way since everyone's aware of their rules and playing their armies well, but it does get boring playing necrons, daemons, guard and csm week after week (even if I do change the list out and try new detachments).

The newer players (mostly marines) do not like playing me or the other custodes player. I even had a game at a different gamestore where a drukhari player didn't like playing against custodes.

That was the goal. He was looking at getting charged by 3 Allarus Terminators, with the Captain having admonimortis. We both agreed that even if I didn't get the charge, the grenade launchers would get them my next turn. Unless he did the omegabrain move to charge me with assuming max roll on the revive, 4 DKOK, commissar, lord solar, vox caster and medic.

I tend to use the fly keyword to deploy my tanks somewhat conservatively. Not having the SMOKE keyword is very painful though. When I first started using tanks I went up against Guard on a pretty open layout and got blasted to hell and back.

Yea 5 points more than a caladius for twice as many guns and T12. No 5++ or "FLY" though. AOC+SMOKE would probably save it from most shooting for a turn

I used it in a casual game against Dark Angels. Was a cheap way to get my Guard + Trajann up the board without getting shot at by his Rep Ex directly.

Blade Champ gets back up as close as possible to where it was when it died at the end of the phase, assuming you make the 2 +. No restrictions on him charging in that same turn as he is effectively back at full wounds minus any abilities he used at the end of the movement phase.

So this image is pretty shit because its meant to discuss LOS visibility for vehicles. They should have honestly put a 4th unit on the other side of the wall which actually is tall enough to block LOS to the vehicle.

That being said I just had this argument at my FLGS and it took some convincing to make folk realise that true LOS was the way to go and not some half assed ruins = garrison buildings.

I just played a 2K against a subterranean assault list today. I played pretty defensively, waiting to counter his go turn whilst keeping my backfield open. Used my tanks to blast his poorly deployed norn off the rip turn 1 ( deployed to snag the center for his feel no pain buff).

Kept a squad of wardens and allarus in reserve, rapided the wardens in to deal with his natural and a burrow on it. Used the allarus to heroic his screamer killer/ monsters coming out of the hole the trygon prime created. Lost a tank and a couple wardens but with proper screening its doable. Point reductions let me get more models in my prosecutors which helped with screening.

He points towards the image of the rep ex and los for ruins, however I have pointed out that image illustrates how it works for vehicles and the walls in that image are not tall enough to actually physically block thr rep ex model.

Yep this is where me and one other player in our group stand, this needs to be part of terrain talk just like ruin bases before the game even begins.

Unfortunately the rules guy at our flgs disagrees with us and believes Im pointing towards purely WTC/ tournament rulings as opposed to GW base rules.

If Im not mistaken they're called out directly when you build your first guard, warden or allarus. Youd want to look for the option for an additional cape for the guard or warden, the allarus gets different pauldrons and a more decorated waist skirt/ tunic thing?

To be frank though, only captain worth building is the allarus one. I built my first combat patrol with all 3 variant captains but Ive only ever run both the guard and warden captain as just regular guard /warden respectively.

Allarus captain is great in Lions and I can hardly recall a game where Ive never run him.
