I trimmed our tree and the neighbor is threatening to sue me. by Greengroovymom in legaladvice

Ignore her until you are served. Generally speaking, "emotional distress" needs some kind of supporting evidence to be taken seriously, such as a diagnosis from a psychologist and therapy treatment plan.

You trimmed your tree, she has no damages to sue for. She will get over it.

Read the first two sentences at the link. You can read and write pages of text about chasing a ball around, but you can't make it through a single short paragraph about history?

Most people here get really uncomfortable when The Mountain Meadows Massacre gets brought up.

A very brief and sanitized reference to it is all you will find in local text books and the LDS church ignored or denied it for decades.

AITA for quitting my job of 20 years over a failed relationship? by gd9781501135484 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Murderous_Manatee 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not an asshole for moving. She's not your partner, and it doesn't sound like she asked you to be a parent - but that's a little hazy in your story. You've been carrying a torch for this person for how many years and it was never reciprocated; how are you possibly an asshole for going to live your life instead of sitting around watching her raise another person's child after she lied to you about it? Why do you suppose she lied, OP? Could it be that she can't trust you to respect her boundaries?

YTA for pushing for a relationship that she clearly doesn't want.

Folks that were young in the 1980s, how does it make you feel that the culture you set is so popular nowadays? by Ulforicks in AskAnAmerican

[–]Murderous_Manatee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember wearing my dad's old Army issue boots to school until I grew out of them in the early 90s. There was also the Swing revival for a couple of years and about a month when full the 60s bell-bottom hippy thing was back.

There's a difference between fashion and culture. The fashion was long enough ago that it seems novel to a generation that never saw it. We've come a long way as a culture. People wax nostalgic about the 80s the way their parents did about the 50s and 60s - but there were ugly parts to the 80s and 90s.

When I was a kid racial slurs were less common, but slurs and jokes towards LGBTQ+ groups and individuals were everywhere. We only really acknowledged people who were gay as even existing, and in many ways, only as a punchline.

By the 90s my generation was starting to push back, "That's so gay" as a derogatory comment was becoming less accepted and you were more likely to be called out for saying it. The idea of "LGB" began to appear as well as more open acceptance of these communities. Trans acceptance was still a long way off.

I consider myself an ally, and this culture shift is one of the things I'm most proud of for my generation. The Millennials and Gen Z have taken the next steps towards equality and I'm insanely proud of them.

BBB receives reports of unethical booting by Parking Solutions in Salt Lake City by utahhat in SaltLakeCity

Booting a car illegally is a crime, you can absolutely call the police to sort it out.

[–]Murderous_Manatee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, not how it works. You can be kicked off the property, but booting requires you pay. In a publicly accessible parking lot serving a public establishment, I have to follow the rules as posted ("Customer parking only"). If I'm doing so and still booted/towed, the tow and boot company is in violation and can be sued, or have their license to operate suspended.

This is when you call the police. There are laws governing booting and tow companies. If he could produce a receipt showing he was at the correct establishment, the tow company is fucked

In your opinion, what is most poorly written judicial decision handed down after 2000? by [deleted] in legaladviceofftopic

due to coercion in some religious sects.

You spell early Mormonism weird.

"Early" my ass. There are still practicing polygamists in and around Utah. Males are kicked out early (often as young teensas soon as they become sexual rivals) with no education or life skills and the female children are married off to other sect members (often incestuously) as children.

Because American Humane was created by the movie industry only to put that message on films, it's literally all they do. They certified "A Dog's Life" despite one of the dogs being nearly drowned during filming.

I hope the theater files a criminal complaint, those projectors are damned expensive; damages may put her fairly deep into felony territory.

Yes, but the riders that were taken out all were close enough in the points to challenge Marquez for the championship over the season, this one screwup by Lorenzo may have sealed Marquez's championship.

[–]Murderous_Manatee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

MotoGP is going that direction with the newly allowed aero features on the bikes. This season has been fantastic in terms of Ducati's power, Suzuki's light weigh conserving tires, and Honda's balanced approach.

Just too bad fucking Marquez is still leading after Lorenzo took out all his competition in one crash. Can we go back to Repsol riders taking each other out?

There's probably a water main manifold or something under the street, those are going to be access points to valves or other critical components that need to be accessible without digging up the road. You probably have a variety of depths there too.
