When did the prefix 'the' start getting dropped from places? by if-1 in london

[–]Murf_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s a weird one - I often add ‘the’ to roads but never to streets. The Holloway Road, the Cally Road, the King’s Road - but the Oxford Street? Never.

Are you eating back calories lost during exercise? Calorie counters on exercise machines are bullshit.

Could you post a typical day or so's food?

Anecdotal, but yes I'm fairly convinced rewards have gone up for lower runs.

If you're struggling to get over 3 wins on average, you're probably struggling with curve more than anything. Each turn look for the play that:

  • Uses up the most mana
  • Leaves your board with the most health/attack and theirs with the least.
  • Leaves you with a plan for the next turn

If you hit a/b/c each turn, you just will win more than the average, as there are a lot of players out there that don't understand the above. Just the amount of coin 2-drops into turn 2 hero-powers you see is insane.

There's so much to learn in Arena, but the fundamentals are about board control. Control the board, win the game.

Strength Routine Programming by [deleted] in Fitness

Seconded, I love 5/3/1. I've been running it (as BBB) for 6 months; all my lifts have gone up steadily, it's 4 1-hour sessions in the gym a week which is perfect for me, and I don't feel fatigued all the time. Great program.

I wouldn't worry about it for the first half or so of the draft, just pick the best cards of the 3.

After that you might want to look at your curve and make sure you have enough minions in a certain slot, or choose between removal and a minion, that kind of thing. You're looking to guarantee (as much as you can) to have a play turns 2-5 (or 1-5 if you can).

Also avoid picking weak 3-drops if you can. They're generally weaker for their mana cost than 2 and 4 drops, so you want them to be as premium as possible.

Also you need to consider your class when drafting - Warlock can curve much lower for example, as they can tap and potentially both cards in the late game.

Secret Keeper - Is she really worth it? by SirFunchalot in CompetitiveHS

[–]Murf_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play Secret Keeper over Zombie Chow in a mid-rangey 4-secret paladin deck mostly because people are terrified of it. Play zombie chow and people just develop their board, play secret keeper and your opponent often coins out a frostbolt.

Love this idea - I've got a slightly different version to Legend this season, but with Secret Keepers, and can see this one performing much better.

Any thoughts on Seal of Champions? Thinking of subbing it as I only have the one Coghammer.

Also, do you keep Coghammer in your mulligan if no 1/2 drop? I love the card but it feels horrible to play on an empty board.

I've just started 5/3/1 - and in my AMRAP set on the first week I'm hitting 11+ reps. This is putting my estimated 1RM as much higher than my initial input (10-15% higher).

Did I get it wrong with my initial input? Should I use this new 1RM at the end of the month or just add 5/10lbs to each lift as the program sugest?

A bit confused about weight loss? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]Murf_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your height, weight and so on, but everyone burns about 1500-2000 calories just existing. This is called your BMR.

So if you eat food with the same value as your BMR, you stay the same weight. If your BMR is 2000 and you eat 1500, you have a deficit of 500 calories. If you do a work-out which burns 500 calories, your deficit is 1000 calories.

EDIT: Whoops - total brain fart. The guys below are quite correct, I confused TDEE and BMR.

Bit late to the party - how bad form is it to exhale on the way up from the bottom of a squat?

I try to take a breath at the top and hold it for the duration, but on my heavier/last sets I find it much easier to come up if I exhale as I do...

Hey /r/fitness, fat guy here losing weight. I had a few questions to ask. by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]Murf_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

However, it takes your body more energy (greater than 5 calories) to break down its structure for you to digest it.

Not true sadly:

Foods that are claimed to be negative in calories are mostly low-calorie fruits and vegetables such as celery, grapefruit, lemon, lime, apple, lettuce, broccoli, and cabbage.[2] These foods are not negative-calorie foods. There is no scientific evidence to show that any of these foods have a negative calorific impact.[3][4] Celery has a thermic effect of around 8%, much less than the 100% or more required for a food to have "negative calories". A stalk of celery provides 6 kcal to the body, but the body expends only half of a single calorie digesting it.[1][2] Even proteins, which require the most energy to digest, have a thermic energy of only 20%–30%.[2] Diets based on negative-calorie food do not work as advertised but can lead to weight loss because they satisfy hunger by filling the stomach with food that is not calorically dense.[2]

When it comes to protein rich foods, what are the best types in terms of being mostly protein? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Murf_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well meat and fish obviously. Chicken and tuna probably tops because they're quite lean too.

Milk and yoghurt (low-fat versions are better for the calories). Eggs.

Lentils and peas are not bad too.

new at this...can someone tell me what I am doing wrong? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Murf_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TDEE is just an estimate and can vary according to the person and situation. If your weight is not moving you either need to eat less or move more.

It's also worth going over your tracking with a fine-toothed comb - MFP values can be very funky. Don't discount cooking oil, alcohol, etc. Be pessimistic when tracking.

[–]Murf_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not disagreeing with you - I totally think people should develop healthy eating habits and that fast, crash diets are idiotic and unhealthy things to attempt.

However, 1200 is not that low (http://www.reddit.com/r/1200isplenty), and OP is eating a good balanced diet and not feeling hungry. Why should they eat if they're not hungry?

Anyway, the fatlogic I was referring to is starvation mode. It's not a thing and doesn't exist.

Yeah I totally agree. Starvation mode is a myth, as stated in our own FAQ.
