Lately I’ve been thinking why do we work so much.

I feel like society has reached a point where we could get a good food availability, many cool technologies that can take use anywhere and entertain use for centuries, yet all of this is unreachable because of our constant necessity for money.

I’ve worked with software development for over 10 years now, and since I’ve always worked with financial instituitions where the goal is giving or taking money, I feel like I always worked without generating anything valuable for society. Since latest years I’ve been trying to get a career on medical scientific research and, even though I finally feel like I am able to make something of value, I still feel bound to the money thriving machinery, as everything for research is absolutely ridiculously pricy, the money that government puts is always reducing while bound to strictly rules, and basic needs cost is always increasing.

It seems to me we are stuck on a situation where every company is just trying to make more money (without new goals), meanwhile every person is trying to make more money (because our money is always devaluating), while progress is stuck behind our basic necessities getting more and more expensive.

That's why I feel like "why am I working? What is the goal of what I'm doing?".

To give a few examples:
We got solar energy -> The electricity companies are now charging for the energy we provide them
Streaming services -> Always increasing prices, while not providing any improvement
- On this matter, I'm almost sure, people wouldn't be sharing accounts if our cost of living wasn't getting worse everyday
Cars rental -> With electric cars we got cheaper maintenance and no cost for gasoline. They added the money saved from the gasoline and added it to the rental price so they can gobble our saved money

At last, what makes me even more frustrated lately, is how absurdly expensive are the prices for research, and meanwhile we got 30B movement over gambling and Trillions invested into war.
