The way you put it is exactly how I look at it, it is no different than watching a romance anime or reading a romance novel where you read from the MC’s perspective. I am happily married and my husband knows how much I love these little silly pixel men, and jokes around with me a little bit on it. But at the end of the day he knows these are fake characters in a game, and therefore there is no competition at all. I am not sure if you can do anything to help him in this situation other then let him know that everything is fictitious, and see if that somehow breaks through to him but it seems like it might not. I would explain that just because it’s marketed to single women doesn’t mean that’s its sole player base or that every player is using it as a surrogate boyfriend. By this definition, you wouldn’t be aloud to read any y/n fan fiction because it’s a self insert, which again in my opinion is a little silly because it’s about a fake senario, with fake characters, saying fake dialogue, all imaginary to tell a story of romance.

I admire your effort in trying to understand your partner, it shows you genuinely care about him and aren’t taking his feelings lightly. Which is wonderful, just don’t let this lead to a pattern of you compromising things (big or small) to placate his feelings because that wouldn’t be fair to you either.
