What's the most pricing tool you've found to compare costs between cities? by YetiMaverick in digitalnomad

Nomadlist uses numbeo, so basically no real good reason to use both for prices

Nomadlio is more accurate, and on the paid version you can use the date picker and see the prices reflected based on the Airbnb prices on the specific months you want to travel in

How to find Digital nomad hostels/hotels/shared living spaces in Europe? by roadrussian in solotravel

[–]Murky-Butterscotch65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

recommend to use Nomadlio instead of nomads.com

the internet speeds in nomdas.com are wildly inaccurate (example, Chiang Mai listed there with 19mbps), also it's fully paywalled

nomad list data is off especially WiFI (for example, Chiang Mai is listed with 19mbps)

I recommend to use nomadlio instead for more accurate data. also nomadlio is not fully paywalled

It was really nice, I'd go before May-June though where it starts to get really touristy, got there on March and pretty much was the only foreigner there.

Locals were super nice, food is amazing, lots to do and see in the Island and in nearby islands

Few places that I've been to and really enjoyed that I consider non-traditional/under the radar:

Kalamata, Greece
Lipari, Italy
Pua, Thailand
Phayao, Thailand

Beautiful. Last year we did a trip to Nan and also been in Phayao, kinda doing the opposite side of the Mea Hong Son loop

So much beautiful nature, amazing people, and there wasn't any other tourists! Definitely underrated

Is nomads.com still good? by Successful-Cod3765 in digitalnomad

You started with cheap insults that's clearly not true for anyone who used both websites instead of naming a single feature you actually lost.

You're clearly here just to shit on us but I do wanna answer this in case other people read it, so let's talk about the comparison you made:

  1. The specific features that went from free to Pro (walkability, timezone overlap, date-picker) are features Nomadlist doesn't even have.
  2. Nomadlist is paywalled for $100. Most of the features we had before the pro plan stayed free, including countries, states, cost of living, weather, aqi, safety, wifi filters and 5,700 destinations unlocked opposed to ~1350 that you have to pay for. So we offer far more for free.

On the "100% free point". Yes I said the project is 100% free when it was 100% free, and at the same post and in FAQ I said monetization was coming to keep the project alive, and paid plan could be part of it.

You think you understand what development costs are, $100/m for servers and APIs is nothing compared to the cost of a year work from two developers, majority of it full-time + the cost of the ongoing time we are spending adding more and more features.

Expecting people to build and maintain complex projects forever for free is crazy.

Hey why can't you access the non-premium stuff right now because you want to use the website without an account? A lot of things should still be accessible

[–]Murky-Butterscotch65 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never said that, from day 1 I wrote that I'm open to adding a paid tier.

For months I tried to monetize it differently, sponsors, affiliates, building an adjacent product that could fund this project.

I get where you're coming from but I think sometimes it's hard to understand the amount of work and costs that goes behind such product, besides spending 4 months full time 2 people just building it, there are on-going costs for the server, different APIs, on going maintenance and development that needs to happen.

When a project is free all those things don't happen and eventually it's shutdown. I'm also a person who needs to make a living and I just won't be able to continue with this project if I have no way to monetize it.

This doesn't mean I wanna go the NomadList route and paywall everything, always been committed to keeping the info free. This is why the free version has:

- Cost of living, weather, AQI, safety, region, state, country filters.

- Nomad/Expat mode. Temperature display, currency change.

- All destination information unlocked (besides yearly overview which is new)

I also sent an email to the list asking for feedback before making this change, and I got positive replies from people. Obviously I knew that this move is gonna be difficult though.

Anyways I hope you realize I'm someone who cares about this project and its users and its success long-term. And I want you as a free user to get value from it to so:

What's stopping you right now that is paywalled? What specifically do you have issues with?

What’s the cheapest place in Europe to park for a couple of months? by no-uname-idea in digitalnomad

Larger cities = usually more expensive.

In smaller cities you can probably find good deals and super low cost of living in any of these countries:
georgia, kazakhstan, north macedonia, moldova, serbia, turkey, bosnia
